Pop Century Room Renovations

So I'm trying to find rooms @ Pop Century for April/May 2018 and it's coming up with no availability for my dates. I feel like this is still fairly early for those rooms to be sold out already. Would this have anything to do with the renovations? Or when is this renovation scheduled to be completed?

Food trays in the outside corridors is why I don't want a first floor room! I figure critters are less likely to venture up the stairs. Ick. I have not been in favor of the option to decline housekeeping since Disney began to offer it. I think they are creating more problems for themselves by offering this option. Wildlife, bugs, moldy towels, days worth of trash when housekeeping can finally get into a room at the end of a stay...not to mention the confusion around whether or not a certain room has or has not declined housekeeping that many have experienced. Or the people who are finding their rooms unavailable until 8 PM at check-in, only to walk in and find a room that housekeeping never even touched. I hope Disney re-thinks their declining housekeeping offer.

When we stayed at AKL we noticed this happening and it was so gross since the hallways are all inside and they aren't very wide. It just wasn't fun walking by so many dishes and piles of half eaten food.

Most deluxe resorts tell you to put the tray out in the hall when you are finished so they can pick it up. If it’s sitting there for a long time, that’s on the hotel, not the guest. We would always unfold a napkin and lay it over the tray though to hide the dishes.

I will not be declining housekeeping. The value just isn’t there. If it was $25 I might consider it, but I would probably still decline because it just wouldn’t feel like vacation to me to have to clean my own room.

I did not notice a lot of noise in the renovated room, except for the one night housekeeping was servicing the room next door around 10pm and kept letting the door slam. I do use a white noise app though.

I wish the people across the hall from me at AKL put a napkin over tray. They seemed to order room service daily, and dirty tray/ dishes were always in hall. Yucky to walk past daily going in and out of room.
Good to know there’s not a lot of noise. You prob heard door slam because they may have left latch out to prevent door locking.

But this is the bigger problem ... and not just raccoons as Disney has tons of wild animals from boars to armadillos to deer to gators.

For sure. We have always stayed on the ground floor at Pop. I love the ground floor, but it boggles my mind when people put their garbage outside their door, especially in the evening. That bag of garbage or tray of food just sits outside all night. It's almost always strewn around in the morning.

If it’s any consolation, I booked for February in July, and then tried for months for other rooms and Pop was never an option. Then last month there were a ton of Pop rooms offered and at a discount. I guess it’s some sort of glitch with their system?

Interesting! We're going end of March/beginning of April and I had no problem getting Pop and even moving my dates around to fit our flight dates. It is possible it's due to the renos and they open rooms up as they progress? I thought I read the renos were supposed to be finished by late spring/early summer but I can't remember where I saw that.

I thought I read that their permits go until April but I’m pretty sure they will have to go after that.

Were going mid December for a short trip. DH loves the 50s section but will that be in full Reno mode by then? Would hate to be around construction zone.

Here now in building 10! Looked like about a third of it wasn't open when we checked in yesterday but overnight the "excuse our mess" barriers cane down and we'v seen people coming in and out.

Building 6 has papers up blocking anyone from seeing in.

Kind of felt for anyone facing the lake yesterday when they were pounding pillars in for the gondula! It was loud!!! Didn't last too long though.

They are currently working on the 70's right now. The 50's will be the last section worked on and they most likely won't be starting that until spring (based on their current rate of completion). No worries, they won't be working on the 50's section in December 2017. Can't comment on December 2018, though. :D

Just back from a one night stay at pop in the 90’s section. Love the new rooms.:goodvibes Seems they are still going back and fixing some items cause we had some loud drilling going on at 7pm last night that went on for about a 1/2hr on and off. It echoed thru our room.

For those of you that were keeping track, does it still average about 90 days a building? We are going the last week of February/first week of March and hoping for building 6. I know nothing is definite, but I like driving myself crazy with guesstimations anyway :)

I went to put in my room requests for our December stay and the drop down is empty...what the heck?!

We’re going that same time as you and would also like building 6 done. It might just be a waiting game.

I would imagine Building 6 would be ready by end of February, or at least some of it open for use, based on Buidling 10. Building 10 took 3 months for some rooms to open. End of February for Buidling 6 would be almost 4 months.

I will try to check out the progress a little later today.
