***Official Jan 2018 Thread****

Do you road trip a lot? With so many amazing destinations near by I can't imagine not taking advantage <3

Not so much road trips, as it's so cheap to fly to Europe - can get flight for around £20 each way which is far cheaper than Gas.

Although my friend has just moved to Germany and as that only around 8/9 hours so I might drive over to see her. (as then I can bring her some UK treats :) )

I was thinking the same thing today although it's been about 9 months for me! It's our first trip so I've researched like crazy, watched for cost savings, used touring plans, now I'm on to watching weather and packing. My husband has been a bit of a downer about this trip so I've found even more important to plan the best trip so I can show him I was right!!
We booked our original trip for September. And we booked 11 months out. Hurricane Irma blew us away, into January.

So, like you, I feel like I have been planning forever. And it has been a while, since December 2016.

I plan to sleep. Oh, and get back to all of those other things I used to do. I can't wait to read a book.

Could somebody send me the mouse savers newsletter? I thought I was subscribed but did not receive it. Thank you dthomps777 (at) hotmail

Going to CBR from Jan 16 to Jan 23!
I am little concerned about the weather, but hopefully it will be okay. :)

We stayed at AKL last January, and I became very sick when we got home. I tried to treat it myself but finally went to the doctor. He said it was bacterial bronchitis. It took a long time to recover. I figured I picked up germs somewhere at WDW, but I didn't even think about their air system. I hope that's not it. We are staying at BWV this time - not because I attributed my illness to AKL but rather that's where we could get a DVC room at the time of booking. Due to my illness last year and reports of the flu this year, my family has been taking elderberry syrup and gummies everyday for a few weeks and will continue to do so on our trip. Elderberry supports the immune system.

I spent last month sick with bacterial bronchitis. It was awful. I still have a cough that comes and goes.

Oh, I wasn't at Disney. I was at home.

Point being, people get sick at home too.

I think we’re all aware that people can get sick at home. That being said, given the average incubation period of germs leading to respiratory infections, there’s a pretty good chance that when one is away from home for over a week and comes down with an illness at the end of the trip or immediately upon returning home that the illness was contracted away from home.

It probably is from while someone is away from home.

But I find it funny that people will blame Disney's "air filtration systems." It would be better to blame the airplane's filtration system or the massive number of children around the parks or the close contact with people on the bus.

2 year old was swabbed today, tested positive for flu. I have to say the fact that she kept putting everything in her mouth could not have helped :crazy2:

It always sucks to be be sick but if we are going to be sick I hope it's going to be when we are back home. Our last family vacation was 2 years ago. We vacationed in the Keys and I had gout and the flu. It was awful. Luckily no one else got it and I had extended family to help my husband with the kids.

Everyone has had their flu shots, I have an accupunture appointment this week to boost my immune system, and I'll be diffusing thieves like crazy! It would be such a shame to spend all this money and time planning not to be able to enjoy it.

Got home last night. We had a blast and packed a lot into 3.5 days! I will say that January is a one and done for us. The weather was crazy and that made packing difficult. The cold and wind was tough to deal with. MLK weekend is definitely crazy busy and without a good plan we would have been really frustrated.

We loved staying at POP. The new rooms are awesome and the bus service was top notch. Being able to take a break between park hops was great and definitely made easier thanks to the stellar transportation.

I'm so glad we went, but we won't return this time of year again.

ay that January is a one and done for us. The weathe
What were the temperatures while you were there? We are 11 days out but I want to start packing just yet. We’ve been sub zero for weeks now so I’d be happy just be able to tour in a sweatshirt or light jacket!

The weather in Orlando has been all over the place. The first week in January I believe it got down to the 30s. We were there last week and it was low 50s / high 70s. Then it was really warm on Friday. I had friends who just went this past weekend and complained that it was too cold. Then right now it's back to the 60s. I would not start packing this far out.

It was 80 on Friday, 50s Saturday, 40s Sunday. Makes packing difficult, but we were also pretty uncomfortable while touring. We are from south Louisiana and don't like cold temps. It's even worse when you add wind and are outside all day in it.

That is crazy!

Grrrrrr.
Our vacation was suppose to be in September. But Hurricane Irma blew us away. Florida was under a State of Emergency as was the state of Alabama.
We moved to January.

NOW, Alabama is under a State of Emergency.

Good grief, people, I just want to get there.

Just a little over a week for us 3 old friends. Fun to read about all your trips. Looking forward to telling you about ours.

I fly tomorrow whoop whoop, and heading to the airport tonight after work to start the Vacay a day earlier.

Although my poor in-laws are supposed to be driving down from Scotland today to join us - it's around an 8 hour drive but due to a very bad storm up north they've closed most of the road - the UK does very badly with Snow.

So currently it's all a bit stressful for them, I do sympathize but as I getting on that plan tomorrow in-law or no in-law, I've waited to long for this trip. but fingers crossed it doesn't come to that. :shamrock:
