Thanks to the 32 people who have already completed our new DISchurners Survey.

If you missed my post earlier today - here is a link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/F3HVYDH Have at it! Hopefully you enjoy a trip down memory lane with all of your cards! I've attempted to include every popular card that is available but at the end there is a comment section in the event I missed an important card.

FYI: If you are in 2 player mode - answer the questions combined between both players.

For those that submitted earlier and maybe didn't see my 2 player comment (@disneymagicgirl, @amalone1013, any others?) if you know of any cards that you specifically missed because only your player 2 has or had them please let me know and I can try to add that to the data.

I'm a big advocate of CIP first and then a CSP/CSR double dip if you can swing it.
When all is said and done there you'll have almost $3k worth of points toward travel (and in an emergency situation you could just cash out for $2k which is nice to have as a fallback!).

The CIP spend of $5k is only $1k more than CSP or CSR and like I said in an earlier post there are some ways to prepay some things to hit that without spending money that you wouldn't have spent anyways.

The CIP is an excellent first choice! Your rental income and internet sales both count as legit businesses so no worries there. Just choose one and go with it (maybe the one you've been at the longest). I have a CIP and chose it for the signup bonus. I plan to product change it to a CIC after a year because I prefer the earning categories.

I know you didn’t want to do Manufacture Spend, but it is super easy if you open certain bank accounts to meet the spend. I met the CIP spend by opening two PNC bank accounts, a checking and a savings. I set my cash advance limit to $100 and then opened the account online and funded with the CIP. The funds posted and I transferred it back to my main account and then paid the bill.

Also, for my “Business” I said I had $5 in revenue. You definitely have more than me, so I would try for the CIP and the CIC down the line.
Thanks guys for the advice. Tomorrow I will get a link from Dischurners and put in the app. It may take a little handhold because I am a little nervous about the "business" but I know that's been a common thread here with noobies lately.

Is 45-60 days a reasonable amount of time to wait until putting in my next application?

@SouthFayetteFan My best chance at meeting the 8k spend would be when the bills are coming in from the surgery. Is there any reasons that I would need to do the double dip sooner, rather than later? We have no idea when the surgery will be. Our next Dr appt is in March and as long as my dh doesn't start fainting or gasping for air before then no surgery till later. (Fun stuff. NOT)

I am thinking CIC now, CFU in late March, unless surgery is on the table and then I would try for the CSP/CSR. Otherwise I will save that one for late fall when insurance and Christmas comes knocking.

I should have started this process a few weeks ago. I have $1000 in misc Dr bills, rx, and winter heating that needs to be paid by the end of the month.

Thanks again everyone.

Hey, it's your plan and as long as you're happy with it, that's what counts! I see no glaring issue with that you've laid out. Now you do say CIC now...and you really might want to consider making that a CIP if you're comfortable with the spend as the 80k is a much better offer than the 30k...but do what you're comfortable with. If you end up stressed over meeting a spend it's not worth it, just make sure you consider all options before you hit that submit button on the application, lol.

NEW SURVEY FOR THE DISchurners!

Done.

soo many NEVERS for me... :\ :/

Lots of HAVE ITS for me but definitely more NEVERS than I would have expected.

I’ve been following this board for a few months and think I am ready to dip my toes into the water…I must admit I still get headaches and my eyes may glaze over a bit when too many CSP, CSR, CIP, RIP (lol) acronyms are bandied about.

A bit of history… I am 54 and would travel the world if both my finances and my hubby were in agreement. MY dh is 61 and isn’t so inclined. He has some health issues and is looking at open heart surgery sometime ??? this year. We have a WDW trip for 10 days scheduled for March and that will be the extent of travel for this year, except maybe a trip to Alaska to visit my parents around the end of the year, health willing. If my Disney Jonesing gets too bad we MIGHT do a short trip to DLR sometime early 2019, but my dh proclaims he HATES DLR, even though it was 1993 when we were last there!

My goals: Travel is mostly on the west coast; Alaska, L.A., Vegas, B.C., and when we have an AP to WDW we try to squeeze in 3-4 trips to Florida. We fly Alaska Airlines because it works the best for us. As long as they keep the direct PDX-MCO flight we have little interest in SW Air. We will be getting an AP again sometime after Star Wars Land opens. I would like to maximize my AK Air miles for that travel and have the ability to book WDW hotels with points.

Additional info: My monthly spend is not large and I don’t want to MS. Three thousand in three months is a number I can usually attain. There will be times that number can increase; when my husband has his surgery as we have a large deductible to meet (time unknown as of now), in October insurance is due, and this March we are going to DW. I usually pay for this with Disney Gift cards bought at a discount (currently @ BJ’s with my 5% Discover, or AMEX at grocery store for 6%) but can certainly use a new CC to pay for some of it.

Cards with a large AF but with travel credits are not of great interest to me right now due to the uncertainty of our travel abilities this year, but could be of more value once we are ready to get our AP in late 2019 or early 2020.

I can probably qualify for a Business card on a Rental Property Income of around $6k annually.

This is mostly an individual endeavor. I have not spoken to my DH about it, because he would most likely freak out. I can probably get a card or two in his name, but I will be responsible for the spend. I just sent him out SPECIFICALLY to put a small spend on our US Bank Visa just to keep activity on it and he managed to use the WRONG card! LOL! During the Economic Crash we had a few cards closed by the issuers due to lack of use.

Thanks in advance for the help. You all are so friendly and helpful here!

Hi and :welcome: to the travel hacking thread! I see you've already received the standard get your Chase 5/24 cards first. While none of the UR points will transfer to Alaska directly, there are Alaska Air partners that do get direct transfers from Chase UR points, like British Airways. So you can book Alaska Airlines using British Airways Avios miles, you just need to search for the availability on American Airlines website. If they have a saver award for an Alaska Air flight, then it is bookable with BA Avios. Sometimes, it will be less Chase UR points to book an award flight by transferring your UR points to BA miles than it will to pay for the same flight through the UR portal with your points. I will suggest to always check both options. Of course, you can also pay for your hotel stays with UR points. UR points in the CSR account are worth more than CSP and CIP.

We pay for all of our Disney vacations with Disney gift cards. Often times, we do get them at a discount. However, I find that purchasing them and getting 5x UR points either with the Freedom or Ink Cash/Plus is worth more than purchasing them with a 5% - 6% discount via Discover or Amex. If I buy $1,000 in Disney Gift Cards with the Amex for 6% cash back, I will save $60. If I buy $1,000 in Disney Gift Cards with a Freedom or Ink+/cash and earn 5 UR points which I would transfer to my CSR account I would earn 5,000 UR points which are worth $75 in the UR portal. Even with the CSP account they would be worth $62.50 which is better than the $60 savings. Once in a while we get really lucky and are able to combine the Chase UR 5x earning plus a discount. My personal combination to earn UR points is the Freedom and the Ink Plus which is no longer available but the Ink Cash still gets 5x at office supply stores which sell Disney gift cards. I also have the CSR and Freedom Unlimited. All UR points get transferred to my CSR account.

DH and I each have the Chase Marriott card since we get a free night on our card anniversary every year at a category 1-5 Marriott. We always use them at one of the 3 Marriott Village properties which are very close to WDW and also a WDW good neighbor hotel. One or two of them include breakfast with your stay. I find that the free night each year is worth the annual fee since I've never seen a Marriott for $85 or less.

Once you are past 5/24 or have the Chase cards you want/need I will suggest the SPG personal (while it lasts) and SPG business cards since SPG points transfer to Alaska 1:1. I will also suggest the Alaska card, both personal and business.

Other cards to consider down the line would be both Barclay American Airlines and Citi American Airlines. AA is an Alaska air partner and you can book AS flights using AA miles.

Hope this helps :flower3:

What are the pros/cons to combining my chase business card and personal cards in the same online account?

I combined DH’s business and personal accounts and wish I hadn’t of. When his account was hacked last spring all the accounts were vulnerable. I also don’t like the layout on the business. I have read on one of the blogs that sometimes offers made for new cards (like on FU) but only when accounts not combined.

For player 2 - Add an Amex Everday Preferred (have), Amex PRG Business (had) - I think those are the only two where we have differed.

My beloved Club Carlson card was not listed :sad2:

I added the cards you referenced (FYI I can't actually tell which is "your" response so I just add it to a random one which really isn't an issue as we aren't analyzing anybody individually, lol). I also added Club Carlson as an option as you're the second person to mention that and I added a couple of ticks to that card for accuracy.

The general rule with Chase and their biz cards is you need to be 0/30, meaning you have not gotten any new cards in the last 30 days. Your 45-60 day spacing should fine.

If you cannot manage the 5k spend (and I understand, it's really hard for me to spend that much also in 3 mos), then I think the CIC is a good card to go for. The bonus on the CIP is 50k higher though which equals $500 cashback or even more as travel dollars once you get the CSP or CSR. It would be $625 on the CSP or $750 on the CSR. Just something to consider if you think the 5k spend is doable :)

I am doing the same. I wanted the 80k UR but will get more use out of CIC categories.

DH has amex everyday (should I PC that to something else? I know nothing about amex cards really. We only use it for the offers), SW Premier, SW Plus, CSR (PC'd from CSP), and Citi TYP (that I need to close I guess as we don't use it.)

Do you have enough points to book part of the stay? I did that for our 3 nights in Paris. Booked Fri & Sat with my 2 free nights and then when I had the points for the 3rd night a month and a half later I called to add Thurs to the rez. Different hotel chain but it might be worth a shot.
I don’t, unfortunately. My anniversary free night will post on the 30th of this month, so once I have that I’ll book the first night.

I finally fell under 5/24 so I just applied for the CIP. I was applying with eBay sales (I listed $400), and I was nervous about applying and the potential for having to call on a business card recon. I was instantly approved! I never expected that in a million years!

Thanks all for the continued guidance here - I am so grateful for this community and how willing everyone is to take time to help others out - that's a pretty rare thing online. There are a lot of gems here!

For AmEx cards, you probably don't want to PC because you might then be ineligible for a sign-up bonus for whatever card you PC to. I need to do something about my AmEx Delta card - it has a $95 AF (and no value directly; it does get some offers but I don't think $95 worth, unlike some other cards). I need to decide whether to cancel it or PC to the no-fee Delta card. My only reason for PCing would be that it's one of my oldest cards. Plus the sign-up bonus on the no-fee card is not great - more SkyMiles that I can't easily use where I am. So I might sacrifice the potential sign-up bonus to keep the age-of-account history.

Took the survey... soooo many nevers! Shows how new I am at this, most of my cards are Chase cards. :rotfl:

Trust me - you are definitely not alone there. I am literally shocked at how few people have cards with AMEX and other issuers...it's been eye opening. Obviously with just 40 responses I want to give more time before I start commenting on the results prematurely though. It's definitely a neat survey though.

Hopefully the survey helped people see some of the cards out there.

Done! Showed me there's some useful business cards out there I can try for to keep from going 5/24. Will have to research to see which ones have min spends I can meet. My renters move out the end of this month and when I think of everything that needs to be done I'm bummed I miss out on the cc points but at the same time I'm glad my management company floats the money instead of me. Makes it easier to only pay the mortgage for a few months without also having to come up with that, I just hope they rent it fast so they get their money back so I can go back to making money :)

A lot of hotels also charge resort fee. its pretty bad. i was paying a $104 room with $54 fee(parking $32+resort fee $22). I was lucky at check in, they waived my resort fee.

Seeing lots of chatter about CA and DLR recently! We will be there around the end of June with our new CP and stash of UR (and potentially SPG points) to put to work...just need to figure out the best way to do so since flights are taken care of via SW RR points and CP. More importantly need to figure out which hotel(s) since we are splitting our trip between DLR/San Fran with baseball games in between, so I'll need to get creative with hotels or itinerary. Will need to go back to the discussions at one point on DL hotel recommendations (think @wendow or @amalone1013 started that one). Thinking a Hyatt or SPG/Marriott property given UR stash unless something on the UR portal proves to be compelling.

Think I recall seeing previous posts that rates via the Chase UR portal generally included resort fees (just not parking). Has that been the case for those who have booked within the last year or so?

I received some wonderful DLR hotel recs from many members here and I cannot find the post again, now that I am wanting to read back through :( I haven't booked anything yet. Unlike when I used UR for WDW this past Sept, so many of the hotels that I find on UR do not have refundable rates (would have booked that waterpark Marriott by now if it did!).The Hyatts are coming up high, imo, on UR. So, I looked on Hyatt's site to see if there was rooms with award availability but nothing comes up?? Maybe I am doing it wrong...Wouldn't surprise me...Same for the IHG properties though the Indigo did have reward rooms recently.

Honestly, there are so many great choices around DLR and lots of options for redeeming points. I only have IHG and UR to use. I will have SPG in a few months but not many and I'd like to save those for the Swolphin :)

What are your DLR dates? I can't believe how many of us seem to be targeting the same timeframe. Hmm, sign it might be really busy??
