What are your thoughts on Tyler on the Disneyland podcasts?

They get a nice check each month from Google for the Orlando show and they get a big, fat goose egg from iTunes for all those Disneyland audio-only podcasts.

I agree to some extend.... okay well actually I don't at all. I usually listened directly via disunplugged.com which features ads. I come to the board to discuss what is discussed on the shows, and more ads (and zombie threads, but I digress.) Because I come here for DL content, I read just about every article about DL on WDWinfo, I also search WDWinfo for DL menus, pricing and hours that Tom works extremely hard to keep up to date as part of their podcast.
I am looking to book a future trip with Dreams, like a Backstage Magic as gratitude for the DL content and yeah I know it's a drop in the bucket.

The DL podcast is one that's quality and level of content was second to none. The knowledge level of the original team was trumped by no one. Their commitment to going live every week no matter what was unmatched.

Now, the question is can they remix it, and with Tyler skills take what they had and make it better? How does he fit in? Well, that remains to be seen...

After thinking about this and watching some of the podcasts on YouTube, my opinion is that I’d prefer to listen to the DL podcasts than watch them. It is something on the video podcasts that to me comes across as arrogant on the part of the new team. However listening is a different story. Perhaps I have to let them grow on me just as I had the initial opinion that Charles on the WDW podcasts was extremely grumpy, but now comes as across as eloquent.

Now don’t get me wrong... I had issues with Tom doing his video blogs, especially with food reviews. It was the way he was holding his camera with one hand and eating food with the other made me wonder if they ever looked at what was done. Then the “up the nose” angles that were shot as well. Very unpleasant site. LOL

Just watched the latest B & W and it was just rough and they are getting beaten up on youtube on thumbs down. Many are comparing to the Orlando B & W and the studio, video and audio is not even remotely comparable. Tyler isn't working with the same equipment as Ryno or Craig.

I feel bad for them, I just don't think the B&W format really works for DL, because of it's size. DL is smaller, it just isn't necessary to rank things so they are already stretching for ideas. DL also has a lot of things that are pretty much the same level of quality from restaurants to good neighbor hotels, there isn't huge disparities. Which is better? Well it truly depends on you. That is why they couldn't narrow it down below TEN best quick service (lol). This summer we are going to have four major blockbusters of night entertainment and again, ranking them would just be frivolously arbitrary. I really think they are trying to force something with this format. I am sure the attraction of the B&W is being able to film 4 or 5 in a few hours and rack up easy youtube hits but it's all misguided.

I hate seeing our team getting beaten up on youtube when it doesn't begin to reflect the knowledge or passion or the quality of work they are capable of. It also doesn't help that our Itunes feed is broken and listeners are frustrated having to use YouTube just to look at four people on a couch.

I just don't know who they are attracting. DL fans I don't think are drawn in by fluff topics or basic overviews when we have really big things to get into the nuts and bolts of like Marvel land(!), Pixar Pier, new deluxe hotel, Anaheim drama, the new DL president, the logistics of SWL and launching before WDW, D23 announced, tons of new dining packages, very exciting new restaurants etc.

They are seriously going to run out of things to rank and be ranking the Paint the Night floats or something. DL fans will be like, "uh, what?" And WDW fans will be like, "bitter, party of one here."

And Tyler was totally clueless when Pete asked about him about the past and new DL president and fumbled around the question. As I previously mentioned, that DL group, both past and present, are better suited to audio podcasts than video podcasts.

Yes audio was better because the main problem with going to video is we lost Michael Bowling who is up north, and to be fair to Tyler, no one could replace him both for his chemistry with the team and his knowledge. That was a huge blow, and I never understood how the Dis thought the DL podcast could even overcome that or be better without him.

It really makes me sad the directionless way this is going. I keep hoping Pete has a big surprise up his sleeve.

Just a quick update it looks like either Craig, Tyler or ITunes is working on the feed because the empty audio files that have been uploading every week have been stripped. Hopefully ITunes has identified the issue and starting next week episodes will start working properly.
While I don't use ITunes directly, I think it's an important part of the DL podcast reaching its audience and I am definitely grateful someone is looking into it and am cheering for the team to succeed.

His style is seriously lacking in professionalism. The daily fixes being filmed with open closets in the background? It just lacks polish. The Disneyland discussions are hard to watch I’ll be honest. Nothing of value was gained by switching formats in this instance.

I like him as a personality, but the Disneyland team video edition is not working IMO so far.

Ps I love love love Mary Jo...that is all!

I like him. I like that the Disneyland team has gained a video person who's also good on air.
And i like when he sits in on the Orlando shows, too.

lolz, i'm not pressed about an open closet.
Also, the disneyland edition for video hasn't actually started yet.
Any videos they've done together so far have been in-park, or a simple one-camera setup. (yeah, that one-shot video with everyone on the sofa looked awkward. They need a desk or table :D )

I'm sure the actual video show will be multi-camera like Orlando.

Respectfully disagree. I always thought any pauses were due to Skype issues. It didn’t bother me, anyway, because I usually listened live, and the imperfections were part of the podcast’s charm.

Tom is an awesome host, and he has done a great job corralling the strong personalities on the show.

In case anyone is keeping track, I miss the old team and hope they all return when the hiatus is over.

That's why i could never rly get into the show.
I totally get the problems with slight delays when talking to different people online, but it's more often than not a pain to listen to.
I found listening to the show on 1.5 or 2x speed better.

It's not a knock on the people talking or the content, but skype calling in general can be tedious or awkward.

Considering they all live in different areas throughout CA I would imagine they might do a Google Hangouts type recording.

Ah. I thought Michael Bowling was the only one to live too far away, and thats why he was not gonna be on the show anymore (because he couldn't physically be there).

The DL team members live throughout California.

With the exception of Tom, they were/are all volunteers. Back before the show was created, Pete put a call out for those who may be interested in helping more DL content be generated. The show was later born. The fact that they all volunteered and put in so much time says a lot.

The last show “The Top 6 Worst Guests.” was another improvement.
They are improving every time.
It’s a learning curve.

They will start to work better soon and have better “banter”.
Just takes time for people to get used to each other and learn what works and what doesn’t.

I completely agree. I listened to the shows instead of watching them. Made a huge difference.

I can agree, definitely. But, the difference here is that The DIS makes money from views on YouTube and makes zero money on podcasts through iTunes
Do you actually know if the Dis makes money or are you one of the people that think that every perosn that puts up a video on youtube makes money from it? Until recently (in February) it would only take one or two videos on a channel getting over a 1,000 views to be invited to be monetized, now you have to have at least 1,000 subscribers and a certain number of views for every video on your channel. I think Pete also said at one point that they don't monetize their channels because they don't want outside companies to be able to advertise with them or something like that.

I agree. I think the camera angle was better and made it less awkward. Plus they are getting more experience. I think it will continue to get better.
