An open letter to Disney about mandatory room checks.

I get that, and I agree that some of the concerns people have make no sense to me, however I will not declare that the folks whose posts their fears are based on are lying. I will say, as I have always said about any controversial policy, I will make my mind up based on what DOES happen, not on what MAY occur.

The thing that I firmly believe in terms of respecting what people feel is that their concerns are valid to them. For example, we are booked at the BC in December, however if I need to change resorts for FD I plan to do so. The savings for my family is substantial. A CM suggested I may need to consider the YC. I cannot. It is a dog friendly resort, and despite the fact that there are not really any reports that the dogs, if there are even any there, have been a disturbance, my DD cannot stay there. Period. My family respects her fear, and we will make an adjustment. We will not ridicule her, or in any way try to disparage her concern. It is real. Our compromise is that we probably will not be able to stay at an Epcot resort, but it is what it is. For those whose fears are based on anecdotes that may or may not be true about the entry policy, it matters not what you or I think. Their concerns are real and until they manage to find a way to allay them, they will be worried. For my family, we will not stay in a dog friendly resort. We will stay elsewhere. For folks who need to stay outside of WDW even before they have personal experience, so be it.
you do realize that there could be a service dog in any resort at any time and that those dogs are allowed where pets are not even in the parks. if your daughter has that much of a fear it something to remember. I am not saying to make fun of her fear but service dogs can be anywhere at any time

We encountered several dogs big and small at the poly last week and in most every park ( actually more then I have ever seen ) so the dogs that are considered “ service animals “ will be pretty much all areas .

We followed an emotional support dog off of FOP decked head to paw disneybound style. The owner told me that the rides provide kennels for them. I had no idea.

We saw a service pony (yes, a small horse) at Animal Kingdom last year. Wore the service animal vest and was walking along next to the person.

Is this discussion about service animals in line with the intent of this thread?

Kinda .. people are expressing what they can accept when it comes to Disney policy’s including the larger room check policy .. also how having animals is a challenge for this policy since housekeeping won’t come in if there is a service animal .

The ratio of useful/on-topic discussion to generic ranting and chatting about everything from guns to dog poop is not good, guys. Can we talk about what the OP wanted to talk about, please? Otherwise, there's not much point in keeping the thread open.

Ok.. the constitution on this subject covers law enforcement and government access.. cut and dry there .. Disney can do what they are doing but they will loose resort guests doing it incorrectly and frankly invasive and not worth their overpriced resorts .
There is no real argument for the particular subject. Can they do it ? Yes , will it out people off ? Obviously... and no I absolutely don’t think it’s helpful in any way to protect guests or the liability of the resort.

Also ... if they come in with any room occupied sign up or without knocking and there is a nude child or teen in the room I guarantee there would end up being a lawsuit they will not win and would settle before anyone even knew and possibly a arrest of some kind ..

For some crazy reason she is not upset about service dogs.

Fldisneyfamily4321, you have a wonderful way of distilling things to the bottom line.

I have been thinking about what Disney has been doing the past few months. If you think about it they have done things which should have the effect of reducing attendance at Walt Disney World. Supply and Demand. Who wants to pay $40/day to park at the parks or pay for nightly parking at their resort? Then there is the subject of this thread. Like someone said, no one is saying they like it. People are putting up with it. The bottom line appears to be to make it less attractive to attend. They appear to have too many people coming to Disney. The summer months are bulging at the seams with people. So, are we merely doing the work of creating this environment that Disney wants as their goal in the first place? Or should we continue to discuss this which would allow people more of a chance of learning about this new mandatory policy?

This is not the Disney I had loved. Prior to becoming a member of DVC I had a dream of staying on property for just one night. Then the dream became real. We became DVC members on the 3rd day of their existence, 27 years ago. All was fine until about 5 or 6 years ago until Disney DVC growth pains became part of being a member. One year a housekeeper kept the latch open on the door while the housekeeper left. This left all of our stuff vulnerable of course. That year, DVC refunded half of our points because of it. Most of the remaining issues have been at check-in. The room not being available until after 6pm. Magic Band issues etc to not having air conditioning.

So, is the only option to leave? Like one person said, we don't want to leave. All we want is to enjoy it like we were sold in the first place.

LOl .. yeh I am a bit that way .. I think it’s simply being married to a cop so long .. so everything to be is that way lol but I AGREE .. this is not the Disney we have enjoyed and it’s sad .. but it has given us a opportunity to go elsewhere and see NEW things so I’m good with it . I know people have limits and the past few “ policies “ and with the outrageous costs of the resorts are my limit for sure . I completely get where you are coming from .. I also pick up a ton of Florida law during his training in several specialty areas . I am completely on board with what your saying overall .

When people ask me why, when I go to Disney fairly often, why I have not bought into DVC I always say that Disney might change into something that I don't like.

Sadly, I have been seeing this come true over the last couple of years. It's painfully obvious that Disney is now primarily concerned with how much money they can make off of a guest. To my observations, the entire Disney focus is now devoted to profits over show. We can see this from the behavior and policies that we have witnessed evolving over the past couple of years.

Yes, yes, companies exist to make money. Disney seems to be exceeding reasonable expectations around profits and is going for every money grab they can think of. Now we are seeing these misguided efforts to alienate faithful guests. We are no longer made to feel welcome.

Keep in mind that this is my opinion, one that others share and some do not. There is no need to argue my points or "correct" my beliefs if you disagree.

There seems to be a downward arc with the direction of the company. I say this because the guest is treated like a cash cow and disrespected. Things are changing for the worse. The stock price is the primary concern around which all other efforts revolve. This is not the Disney that we have come to know and love.

I'm wondering when this behavior will stop. What is it going to take? Something will inevitably happen, it's just a question of when and what.

@Three60guy you did the right thing by sharing your concerns with Disney management. They are the ones making these poor decisions and they'd be foolish not to take into account guest feedback. I have done the same and I would encourage other guests to do so as well. wdw.guest.communications@disneyworld.com

I was thinking today "Thank God for Universal and Harry Potter". If that didn't exist I am thinking that Disney would not be prompted to make any new efforts. Management would just continue to trade on Disney's reputation from the past and run it's legacy into the ground in the never ending pursuit to pump up the stock price.

It's more that a little sad that in this current era the Disney Stock price is the most important consideration, never mind the guests.

I'm really holding out hope that when the Iger reign ends management will be less consumed with collecting their golden parachutes and turn the focus back to building the best experience for the Disney guest. One can only hope. I keep telling myself that we just have to get through this but I'm not sure that Disney will ever find it's way back to the excellence we once knew and loved.

Although I didn't catch the age of the supposed "sleeping princess" when the father was told to exit the room while they did a check.....

if true I am trying to decide who the bigger idiot was. :rolleyes2:sad2:

Then why are you on a Disney board complaining? I mean I understand your frustration, but you obviously do not like Disney. I don’t mean this rude nor am I trying to change you mind, but this is a Disney board for what I assume people that enjoy Disney, not a Disney hate board. So IMO if you are on a Disney board and complaining you are trying to get others to join in on your beliefs yet you don’t want anyone to attempt to change yours. You have to see it from both sides...

Because this topic is Disney related.

Actually this is a discussion board set up to discuss ALL things Disney. Good, bad, or otherwise.

So IMO if you are on a Disney board and complaining you are trying to get others to join in on your beliefs yet you don’t want anyone to attempt to change yours. You have to see it from both sides...

I have read every post from @Ninja Mom in this thread and have not seen her trying to change anyone's beliefs.
