*** The Official August 2018 Thread*** - let's have some fun....

Pre-packing drama begins. Just took my giant bag of Disney wear that I've been collecting down from the attic today. We are roadtrippers who will be flying for the first time in years. I usually pack everything into my huge duffels, but this year I splurged and bought a Samantha Brown carry on with a matching tote bag so I would look cool at the airport, like Samantha, the frequent flyer. I realized today that there is no way that my Disney stash, along with my Clark's flip flop collection in every color, will fit into Samantha's bag. Yup, I'm already driving myself crazy so August can't come soon enough!
There are numerous reasons why we drive from NY to FL every time we go to Disney. My sore back is NOT one of them, but . . .. I have a wife, and a daughter whom both are absolutely petrified of flying. That is a concern, but only a bit of what makes us drive. The way my wife picks clothing for our trip, I'd have to pay for half a dozen extra checked bags to carry it all if we flew lol. There are 5 of us, and we rent a 7 passenger SUV in order to have enough room to pack everything :) I swear she packs 30 changes of clothes for 15 days on vacation.

We drive from NY also and the last time we flew it was horrible. Not much for going down but for all the shopping. We forgot that we didn't have the car and had to pack most of it in our luggage. We were thrilled that my parents were with us and their suitcases were half empty. :yay:

Enjoy the packing and repacking.

Yes, we are definitely bringing an empty duffel for our return trip! None of enjoy flying, but I had some vascular surgery, and I can't endure the road trip from MA to Disney this year. Hoping we all survive this adventure.

We are flying down but driving back with DD - at least that's the plan. Hubs and son may fly back and I'll drive with her (hubs has his dads retirement party to attend). If they don't fly back we are definitely going to have to ship some of DDS stuff home- she has spent more in cast connections this time -and I need to stop having her get me stuff:rotfl2:. And that's not including the Mickey table I want. She got a giant Stitch for her sister that needs its own seat. But if kid and hubs fly southwest back I'll send 4 bags back with them.
I have it scheduled on our first day but have read some bad reviews
From the blog on the side of the boards? The recent plaza review? We did lunch last August and our experience was nothing like that reviewers- the Mac n cheese wasn't even the same. Yeah the tables are close, but the food was delicious. I'd read more reviews to be sure it hasn't changed, but otoh every single restaurant has negative and positive (for example- everyone seems to love Skipper Canteen- the chicken is good and a couple apps- but the pork we were served was a pressed meat variety with fake grill marks with a no brand bottled low cost tasting BBQ sauce- not good at all!! And we won't be back)

I'm leaving for a 4 day trip to see my sister on Thursday but when I get home, it will be ALL about our WDW trip! We typically only take carry on sized cases but since this trip is twice as long as our normal DL trip and we will have Hallowe'en costumes and we are flying first class so we have 2 free checked bags each means that we are not packing light!

DH and I think we finally have locked down our costumes, although they are more Disbounding and less costumes because it is going to be stinking hot! We are going as Mr. & Mrs. Banks from Mary Poppins, DS is turning 13 on Monday and has reached the stage where he does not want to do a family costume so no idea for him yet.

I did, however, get someone local to make this for me and I can't wait to pick it up today! I still need to find either a blue sundress or blue shorts and tank top plus a straw hat and yellow bracelets and necklace to mimic her yellow cuffs and collar.

Such a great idea I proposed going to MNSSHP to my daughter and she looked at me like I was crazy she's like we are going to wear costumes during the summer in August. Lol

Love the costume. We are still working on our costumes. Enjoy!

Who is going early August?
My son said tonight he doesn't want to go again (he was just there in June, plus last Thanksgiving and August last year). So may end up just me and DH. We also did Universal in June. I'm kind of sad he doesn't want to go-we are taking a Disney break for at least 2 years. And that means we would be doing Slinky Dog without kids :rotfl:
OTOH-it is our Anniversary this trip, and it would be kinda nice to be kid free (bedsides the DCP kid). If he truly doesn't want to go may switch to POFQ the whole trip instead of split Pop/AKV-would be same price with kid's discount, and no hassle switching rooms. Decisions...

Does any one have a packing list they can share or a thread to direct me? I like to look at other's list to see what I've forgotten.

The best packing advice I ever got was to pack and over the door shoe holder to organize all of out toiletries.

I am finally going to try the Plaza next trip and that review was pretty dismal, but when the person who ordered nothing but a salad and mashed potatoes commented that it was mediocre I decided to take the whole thing with a grain of salt ;) I just thought it seemed like a nice lunch with two of my girls and am still looking forward to it :)

One thing I have learned over the years, that is to take any, and all dining reviews with a grain of salt. Sci-Fi Dine-In got horrible reviews. We tried it our first time in Disney, and loved it. The DIS crew gave Liberty Tree Tavern pretty bad reviews regularly back then, yet it has been one of our favorite places to eat ever since our first visit (2008) and in all of these years, only one time did we have a meal there that wasn't as good as it should have been. Be Our Guest was getting amazing reviews, I didn't care for it a bit. Always judge for yourself!

So true! I usually give something more than one try too. Glad we did with Boatwright's, fell in love with it a few trips back after a lackluster first visit in 2009.
