I love credit cards so much!

Sorry for all the questions. We always fly SW so always have free checked bags, and just trying to understand this.

I am playing around on United's site with some dummy bookings. You sate "first checked bag free" Does that mean if DH and I both get the United card we will both be able to check a bag no matter what class the ticket, even if the United site says "no checked bag?" What about our kids who will be traveling with us? Will they get a checked bag too? And this is using Award travel....will we get any checked bags using award travel?

Straight from United: https://www.united.com/ual/en/us/fly/travel/baggage/chasebag.html

Primary cardmember and one companion on the same reservation get a free checked bag. Idk what happens when they have 2 primary card members on the same reservation.

Sidenote: WOW is UA stingy with this benefit! I thought it was bad enough they made you purchase the ticket with the United card to get the benefit (@trenty you know that part right? You'll only have whatever travel protections are available on the UA card because you have to use that to book the flight) but they only give a free checked bag to you and ONE companion?!

Also of note in the fine print is you aren't eligible for this benefit until two weeks after account opening.

ETA: with regards to Basic Economy this is what UA currently says "Basic Economy fares have the same checked baggage policies as standard Economy tickets."

Thank you. So if I am understanding this correctly - if all tickets are booked as Award Travel, we will have to pay to check bags???

Edit - I would use the United CC to pay for taxes and fees - would that get me at least one checked bag?

I believe on award travel, if you pay the taxes and fees with your United cc, you will get the free checked bag benefits that come with the card. But I'm not 100% sure, because I can't remember the last time we used miles for a domestic award flight rather than an international award flight. The first two bags are free to check on United international flights, so it doesn't matter what cc you use to pay the fees and taxes on an international award booking. When I first had the Explorer card, we'd get free bags for all 4 of us. Then a couple of years ago, UA started enforcing the 2 free checked bag limit for that card (primary cardholder and one companion on the same itinerary), and we would only get 2 of our checked bags for free. I got the United Club card a couple of years ago, and that one gives the primary cardholder and one companion on the same itinerary 2 free checked bags each, so I use that now to get free checked bags for all 4 of us when we travel United domestically.

We flew into Flagstaff. I think it had 2 gates. Our home airport is O’Hare. Talk about culture shock.
Ours should have 2 gates. It's only got 10 flights in and 10 out a day now. They only go to Denver, Chicago, Minneapolis, and Atlanta. And it's usually they just stop by Lincoln to drop people off/pick them up between those cities.

Actually when they added the Atlanta flight a few years back, a bunch of people started missing their flights because security couldn't handle the huge influx of passengers! :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

We did used to have direct service to Vegas... :rotfl:

I had the Hollywood ones too. I haven't seen any others recently and i"ve been checking a bunch because last year we used some undercover tourist amex offers on those tickets.

We go in September. I wish I had been decided on this even back in April for the Daily Getaways deals. I don't remember how good of a discount their Universal tickets were but I could have gotten 2 nights at RPR for $325... But I decided not to spend the money since we didn't know.

Don't feel too bad. They only had maybe 10 of those available and I was online and waiting to push that button to grab the RPR deal...I did NOT get one!

Totally off topic but, has anyone ever changed their primary email address? One day I started receiving these "Thanks for signing up" emails, looks like someone used my email address to register me to a bunch of junk/spam emails. I keep unsubscribing to all of it, but it appears I still keep getting registered. I'm thinking about getting a new email address. Thoughts? Suggestions?
I did when I moved. We had a Comcast email account for years. Even though we have Comcast at new house there was a lapse in service so I lost the old account. I created a gmail account and new Comcast accounts for junk (contests and such) It took a while to transfer everything over but it will probably be easier since you don’t have a deadline on closing the old one. Just transfer the account from every wanted email you get for at least a month. Then leave the old one open a few more months ‘just in case’

I should have taken a picture, I might go back this weekend (I didn't have my amex with the offer with me) and then I can report back, there were shell cards, starbucks, firehouse subs, visa prepaid, other than that I don't remember, there selection was very limited.

I know someone asked a few days ago if buy buy baby sold gift cards. I can confirm they do, even had $25 and $50 disney gift cards.

Excellent, I think that was @Lain and me with the inquiry. I checked the map for the closest one and it's in a shopping zone so I can make a plan to head out that way next trip. It's farther but I haven't been in that direction in years so it'll be good to check it out. And then it won't be a waste if I find the one that decided not to carry GCs  Thanks!

Help! I'm packing for our cruise (we leave for ATL tomorrow then fly directly to BCN Sunday-Monday). I always review and pull out the correct cards and so far:

Amex Plat for myself and DH (SkyClub!)
DH's CSR for cruise charges/restaurants/Hilton prenight charges
Amex SPG for tomorrow night's Westin

but I am debating for our two night post stay (free 2 nights thanks to R-C Visa) using either the SPG, R-C Visa or CSR.
I can't remember if SPG earns 6 starpoints/$ now or after Aug 1. Then I start wondering if UR would be better (for me) since my statement posts Aug 2 (after the big merger).

Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated. I realize it's not a big big deal but like to have a plan, especially when traveling.

Is your post-cruise stay in Barcelona? If so, you'll want to watch ccs that charge foreign transaction fees. CSR and Amex Platinum are safe.

Well FLG does have Starbucks but that’s it. The gate is behind glass to the left. Check in straight ahead. One(tiny) baggage conveyor (not a carousel) behind you.

Thank you. This helps. We will be travelling to Europe. If 5 us go on award travel from 2 united accounts will we get 5 free checked bags?

That’s up to you. We stick with frontier for the convenience and proximity.
Agree about the proximity....love that our local airport is 10 minutes away vs driving 1-2 hrs to JFK or LGA.....
right now SW works great with the companion pass and booking with points...if I don’t have those then I’ll have to do more research...

SPG post stay will be the same regardless. Right now it's 2pts for Marriott or Starwood properties which will multiple by 3 when converted in Aug. After Aug 1 the card will just earn the 6pts. So it's a wash there. Just have to decide if you want the hotel points or UR points.

I've thought about it and I've got 2 emails but the original just keeps being the primary because it's too much trouble to switch everyone over after all these years. I've had to unsubscribe from a lot of stuff.

It seems to take a while to get rid of some stuff. They keep hoping you will change your mine and keep them. But when some companies feel they have to send multiple emails in a day, it gets tiresome.
