I read that chatter a lot before our trip, and purposely planned to not be there on a Monday. Our park days were Wed-Sat. I was surprised by how dead Friday was. Here, it doesn't matter what you do, from Costco to the zoo, Fridays are awful. Worse than weekends. Work schedules like 4-10's and 9/80 are really popular here, and Friday is the day these companies encourage everyone to take off. My dh works a 9/80 so he is off every other Friday...as is like every other man I know.
Must be weekend visitors park Sat-Mon taking 1 day off work for at least 3 days making a trip worthwhile, while weekday visitors start the park Mon and are out before the crowds hit Fri... I am SO happy Tues-Fri in the parks just happened to coincide with my budget and airline miles for my trip next month! Although maybe the Mon craziness will die down with schools starting back up!

I think I just read something about a Colorado school district going to a 4-day week, but having Mondays off, not Fridays. Boy, that's really going to mess with parent work schedules!

Oh my! I've not heard that. I honestly think it's great...as a homeschooler, I think less time in the classroom and more time to learn outside the classroom is great...However, I can't imagine the headache this will cause working parents!

That's a tough call. You have a nice stash of points, but those are two extremely expensive cities! You can definitely get your flights covered with the UR points, but they probably would not be first/business class seats. This summer we flew Virgin premium economy into London and AA economy out of Madrid and the fuel charges weren't too bad. I'd look into picking up AA cards since they are fairly easy to get.
I'm good with economy. Don't want to spoil the kids:)

Half of Colorado's school districts (most of them in rural areas) operate on a 4 day week because they can't afford to be open 5 days, per an article I read on Chalkbeat. That same article points out that Colorado ranks 28th among states in per-pupil funding.

Well, I applied but she actually used the card and made me AU. Crap, that reminds me to check my report for that AU.
ETA. To cancel, yes I was my mom. They didn’t actually ask me any identifying info
Great. I might call in to be my MIL in a couple months...

I wish we had that at my job! Actually I really wish I had known what was going to happen to a new position we created at the end of 2017... It's supposed to be a floater job to help with coverage in different parts of the department. We (those would would be getting the help) wanted it to be a normal 8hr schedule, but my old department manager just liked to do whatever she wanted... so she made it a 3-12s Fri-Sun! We're not even always here on weekends! Anyways, the guy that took the job actually just worked third shift for a couple months because we were short a person. After we got someone hired and trained, they thought they were going to make his job 4-10s as a compromise because they are getting rid of the 3-12s schedule... but they figured out he could be grandfathered in because he signed the job offer before the end of 2017....

So now he works Mon-Wed, usually 5am-5pm. If I had known that was how it would end up, I would have put in for it!

Our Monday at DLR was also insane. We showed up a good hour before park open and the bag check line went almost to Harbor. By the time we got through that the lines at the turnstiles for the parks were meeting in the middle of the plaza. We had zero issues on Sunday!

Bridging didn't work for us at the beginning of the year because Disney will know how much you purchased the tickets for from UT. The price difference will be the price difference from the current AP price less the price you paid for your UT ticket. Assuming that is what you meant by bridge in this case.

As @Ava said that's not how it should have worked. Anyone looking to bridge or has ticket questions should use the ticket thread from the theme park board https://www.disboards.com/threads/all-about-tickets-upgrades.3570721/ ask questions there, you don't have to read it all since so much is out of date. You'll get good advice there. The biggest thing is knowing what you should pay ans if the cm gives you a higher number say no thanks and try someone else, they don't all do it correctly.

Thank you! That's a steal.

I'm torn about vacation planning for next summer--sitting on 190,000 UR points and 280,000 Marriott points but I'm not sure if I want to do London/Paris next year or wait another year. I have 190,000 UR points and 280,000 Marriott points so I'm in decent shape but these once in a lifetime trips with my teens (before they head off to college) are still so expensive.

We are doing London/Paris over thanksgiving with our 3 boys 15, 12, 9. We have Hamilton tickets and paid less for the 5 tickets than we paid for our 2 in SLC earlier this year. Since we have 5 people we decided to open venture cards to help offset air bnbs. Used URs to book tickets through travel portal because you can find amazing rates to Europe right now. i love that I found this hobby so we can show our kids the world!

You're not helping! Just kidding. I really want to show my kids the world too! I'm considering Air bnbs for Paris because there aren't many good Marriott options--even for a family of three. And yes, plane tickets are surprisingly reasonable.

We live close to several Lockheed martin's and they are big on the 4-10 or 9/80 schedules. So then other places in the area do it too since it's so common in the community. My dh has only had two employers in the 20 years we've lived here and he had the 9/80 schedule at both. He's spoiled. It's wonderful!

airline experts i need some help understanding my southwest flight. i booked a flight using my points and am of course watching to see if it goes down. i noticed that from pdx to lax there are 2 flights leaving at the same time, with the SAME flight #. one makes a stop and one doesn't.
i thought flight numbers were individual to that plane/flight path? can someone explain this to me?
I fly SW all the time..but never looked at the flight numbers..sorry...if you post the date your traveling I’ll take a look

I would guess they would increase the length of days not necessarily give more time off. But as a working parent it would be hard. I’ve managed to tailor my work days to the hours DS is in school. DH drops him off and I pick him up. Last year they went to early dismissal once a week and adjusted the other days for an additional 15 minutes longer, thus keeping the exact same number of hours per week. Apparently the teachers didn’t like it, contract negotiations took until July this year and we’re back to early dismissal once a month.

I'll end the 48 minute lack of posts!!

Southwest Business card - does selling items on Nextdoor constitute owning a small business? It's providing household revenue...

I’d say its a business...I sell on eBay and received the SW business cars last year....just remember the business name and EIN ...are your name and SS number...and to include all household income where they ask for it...not just the business..my sister made that mistake and was denied

@MrPTato hey... wait a minute... your Avatar changed! She's adorable! (It could have changed a while ago but I'm not the most keen of observers :) )
Thanks so much...I think I changed it about a month ago? I am not sure the date but I am sure @Lain has it noted somewhere in his records.

This is her first Mickey bar. I am not a fan of messes and if you ask her "What does dada always say?" She will respond with "Don't make a mess." DW got that for her when I was on ToT and had a good chance to eat it. I got back and took the pic. They went to use the bathroom and it was dripping all over my hand...so I filed it in the trash for safe keeping.
