What would you do

I can't speak for Louisiana, but I've spent my entire life living in 3 different Southern states. I think the story is made up & have said that from the beginning. There are definitely white supremacists in all areas of the country, but this particular story doesn't add up. Attempting to incite people only hurts the cause of people who are trying to support those who are discriminated against. That really annoys me. Without going into politics, that's all I can say.

It’s fine that you think it is made up. It very well could be, but it’s not as far fetched as people want to think.

You’re in NOLA though. Different situation.
True. I did live in BTR, Gonzales, & Denham for a few years but didn’t really associate with anyone other than my friends & family & ppl I work with. I’m a social worker so not too many neo-nazi social workers.

One of my former coworkers was loud and proud about his family’s long history of being in the KKK.

Rural Louisiana is a frightening place.

I find it interesting that people don't find this story plausible when it is very real in the current climate of life. I knew what all those symbols were without looking them up due to my job. My sister is also married to a man who I have no doubt has those symbols hanging up in his gun arsenal. I don't have any children, but if I did I would be honest with the parents that what their flags that they willingly hang up don't align with my values, especially for having ancestors that have died at Auschwitz, and that I don't want them around my child. Then move on with life. It's unfortunate but I can't side with the wrong thing for the sake of friendship.

There is a site that lists hate groups in each state by city or area or statewide. It’s all kinds of hate groups and this site is an organization that is fighting against these groups. I am not sure how, I just googled and found it. It’s Southern Poverty Law Center.

Some of you may be surprised. Louisiana doesn’t have the number you may think. Of course this site doesn’t have numbers of members so that may be different.

But regardless, it’s not if there are people like the OP describes. We all know there are. But how many of you have seen something in a neighbor’s home or garage that you didn’t know what was but you took pictures of it and ran away? That makes me question it.

True. I lived in denham for a few years after Katrina & there was some covered wagon looking thing with a confederate flag that used to come around & hand out fliers for some group. It didn’t say KKK, but the rumor was that’s who it was.

That doesn’t surprise me about Louisiana which is kinda what I was saying. I know they’re here, but I don’t think it’s as many as other places.

Agree that nobody (sadly) is questioning whether or not miscreants like this exist and are everywhere, even right next door. It’s the scenario of taking pictures in the garage and the mom who is perfectly lovely to people of other ethnicities that’s a bit hard to believe.

I looked up hate groups in my area. There are a dozen or so known. And while there are the usual subjects (white supremacists, anti-LGBTQ, anti-Muslim or anti-Semites), what surprised me the most was the number of black supremacist and separatist groups. But now that I think about it, some have been around for a very long time.

There are white supremacists and neo-Nazis that want their cause to go mainstream. They are encouraged to be polite and "nice" in public in order to gain the communities trust and make their beliefs seem less extreme, enabling them to move into positions of power in politics and the workforce.

So my daughter met another girl at the park the other day. They are both the same age and most likely will be going to kindergarten together next year. They played great and the mother seemed really nice. Well this morning my wife was going for a walk with my daughter. My daughter noticed the little girl from the other day and yelled for her. My wife walked her over to the home so they can play. Their garage was open and the mother was gardening. Inside the garage was a confederate flag, a storm front flag and a big poster that said 14/88. My wife pulled my daughter immediately out of there (she knew was the confederate flag was about but no idea what those other 2 things meant). Thankfully she snapped a pic with her phone to show me.

we really don’t want my daughter associating with them any more. We are Hispanic and this stuff really scares us but the girls really like each other. Should I just not bring my daughter around anymore or allow them to play. I never met the husband but the wife seems really nice.

We had a situation with DD and a friend of hers. Nothing raciest but a family that I did not want her hanging around with. DD was in 5th grade and they met in school. There was nothing that I could to stop them from being friends. I did hinder it though. DD was not allowed over her house and I kept play dates to a minimum. DD was always very upset with me that I would not let her go over there house and would ask me consistently why. I just told her that I said so and let it at that. I never talked bad about the family with the kids around. Just to DH so we were on the same page. They are now in 7th grade and don't really talk.

You won't be able to stop them from being friends in school but I would hinder it as much as possible and I would not let her over there house.

I have to admit my ignorance on those groups. I was surprised by the number of them in a lot of areas.

But wouldn't that entail also being a little more secretive about their "displays"? Its not like they don't realize that most people would take one look at it (and if they know what they are) and back away from them. Its not the kind of thing that makes people trust you.

The point us these people aren't trying to be secretive. They want to be seen as your "friendly neighborhood neo-Nazi".

People have gotten pretty bold lately...
Yup. I can't believe the increase in Confederate Flags I see flying in my town....in Minnesota. Not exactly the deep south where people "claim" there is some non-racist reason to display that thing. But, I've definitely noticed a whole bunch more since 2016. I sure it's just random, right? LOL

Not even going to get into a discussion with you about the confederate flag but just know that for an entire region of the country, that isn’t true. No one is promoting slavery.
First, you can't make a legitimate, blanket claim like this one.

Second, at the very least, the confederate flag promotes treason.
OP, think carefully about why you posted here.
educated guess: OK posted this here to learn what others would do (or recommend doing) given the provided information.
Or, were you, perhaps on some level, just wanting to post something negative about people that you think you hate.
What the what what?????
