Hi, I am new here and looking for thoughts on what credit card I should apply for. Interested in cards with good MSR right now. I am in a position to pay off two auto loans, each for 6k within the next few weeks but would like to use this opportunity to hit MSR, earn points, travel rewards, etc. This is all new to me and I am learning every day. Should I open a Plastiq account to hit MSR's? Which credit offers should I be trying for?

Currently, I have the following cards:
Ultamate Reward Card/Ulta Comenity Bank 10/17
Chase Disney Premier 01/17
Capital One Platinum 07/15

We do all our spending on the Chase Disney today and pay it off monthy. We have travel planned around Easter and have not purcahsed flights, booked hotels, etc. My DD's both play club level sports so traveling, lodging and dining out become a way of life for us on the weekends. We are also looking to be in the Orlando area end of June. Lastly, we just finished our third Disney Cruise with plans for our 4th in 2021.
After reading the other responses, I would go for a business card and then a personal. Since you aren’t specially saving for specific trip the UR are useful for travel and worse case cash out at 1cpp. Plastiq has been great for us to pay Toyota and suntrust. Mortage is with Wells Fargo and that has be a mastercard. You might just have to send a copy of your loan payment to prove it’s an auto loan. Doesn’t take them long to decide if they ask for proof. Before you apply checkout dischurners to show some support.

Good to know. We are staying club level. Will we need to be there early for Hagrid’s with the Express Pass?

Hagrid's doesn't have express pass and likely won't even by February. Your best bet is to get there an hour before early park opening (which is 1 hour before normal posted park times). So for a 9am opening get there as close to 7 as possible. Boats start running at 7 so plan to be in the boat line a bit before 7. Go straight to IOA ticket gates and you should be near front of line to scan tickets. Follow the crowds from there. Even during a slow time I'd still get there 2 hours early. It goes fast and all the kids thought it was a fun adventure and didn't have time to get bored.

I think we got Bonvoyed. Has anyone been charged for making a local call at a hotel lately? This just seems like something out of the last century. Lol. Our phone service was very spotty at our hotel and we tried to order pizza one night. The call dropped so we just used the hotel phone. Then had problems with delivery and had to call back a 2nd time. These 2 phone calls ended up being more than the pizza!!!! Is this norm?? I’m thinking no. I want to complain but want to make sure this is not normal. It was billed as a per minute long distance call. We weren’t on phone that long so I’m thinking about $2/min. The pizza shop was like a mile down the street.

Welcome and thanks for jumping in here! Also thanks for joining DISchurners - I added you last week when you sent me a note on Reddit! :D

Wow, that’s strange But I can’t remember the last time I used an in-room phone. I completely forgot we were using DH’s cert on Tues and automatically used the premium WiFi since I get it free with my Plat status and was charged $4.95.

I haven't used a hotel phone in ages but there are many that still charge - which is why I avoid just so I don't have to figure it out.

Shouldn't be billed at the long distance rate unless you dialled "1" before the number. I'd argue that after looking up the hotel website for the fees. Actually I'd argue for a lower amount anyway, a local call should be a flat fee.

Anyone know how long it typically takes for SW shopping portal points to post? My Giftcards.com seem to be taking forever. and while I was looking at the portal, I decided to take advantage of some online subscriptions that were offering a nice increased bonus. The Economist for 1400 RR and $1 sign-up, WSJ for 700 RR for $12 and Barron’s for 700 RR for $1. So 2800 RR for $14. I just need to make sure to cancel the subscription.

Yes it’s still normal for hotels to bill for phone use. Yes that’s a policy from last century and stupid. But long distance for a place a mile down the road is ridiculous. #Bonvoyed

Mommy Points family vacay ended up in a police station... link

This is a blogger I have zero respect for but there's always a what not to do aspect. She could have killed her entire family if she hadn't hesitated on this beauty of an idea and decided to call the police first "While trying to figure out our next move while sitting in a stalled car on the side of an icy road, several very large vehicles lost control near us and started sliding. Thankfully, they didn’t hit us, but I quickly decided we had to leave the car. The problem was we couldn’t see anywhere to go, the temperatures had plummeted to single digits and it was still snowing. " (they broke down and were pulled into a big rig chaining area). You do not leave the car in those situations!! If you're gonna get hit by a truck best to be in your car when it happens!! And I am not even taking into account the effect those sorts of extreme elements can have on a person or child! Thank God she called the police before they left the vehicle who had them stay put until they could rescue them.

Stuff goes wrong when you travel. Sometimes horribly wrong, 5 days for an another flight is crazy- but so is trying to thread a snowstorm during peak holiday traffic and drive from Aspen to Denver. Safety > money and points always. (I like to think she just had no idea how unsafe that drive was going to be.)

Since I feel I can't 100% bash the story her lesson on pushing back to get what you want from the airlines is good. She should have done that back in Aspen though instead of through her tears* in Vail.

*not an exaggeration

It’s like Mommy Points saw this story go viral:

I can't get into the UR portal right now---once I enter my search terms I get an "unavailable" message.
I was on the site today booking things and it was very buggy.

My DH works IT for a public utility and they have been dealing with Iranian cyber attacks today (successfully, so far). I wonder if any banks have had issues as well?

Edited to add - Utilities (banks, etc.) are well prepared for these attacks. Didn't mean to sound alarming.

Whoa. DH talks about stuff like this when he argues against winter vacation spots that involve the possibility of snow. I did manage to get him to agree to Hamilton in Chicago two years ago but we were prepared to be stuck if that's what happened.

ETA: stuck at the airport or in Chicago generally, not driving in a snowstorm.
My friend was trying to get us to join her in upper MI for a ski trip and I was thinking the same way. 15hr driving, some along Lake Erie, in Dec? No thanks.

I had a successful HI trip planning day! Rebooked my car rental to save $100+ URs, plotted out our schedule, booked DH a scuba trip, and the family a dolphin watch/snorkeling boat trip, kayaking trip, and PCC tickets. Also realized we have 1 more day there than I thought! 😮 Definitely getting excited!

My SW card pending charge (to meet MSR) is still pending (from Wed), driving me crazy! DH met MSR on his Surpass today and should have my 2nd SW card in a couple days to get to work on that MSR. Starting 2020 churning off on a good foot!

And I am super bummed (Bills loss)!
Oh, so sorry about that! As a TX gal, I can't say I wasn't rooting for the Texans BUT I was always a Cowboys fan, more than Oilers (then Texans) so I was kind of am ambivalent about that game. I wouldn't have been too unhappy if the Bills won. In fact, we had people in our household rooting for the Bills!

I'm going to be on a cruise on Super bowl night. I don't have a team in the playoffs. I'm just hoping for some kind of interesting match up, but looking at the teams left I don't think that's going to happen.
