Which Resort was One and Done for You?

I know we all seem to have our favorite resorts, and I do pretty much love them all myself!! (Well, I haven’t stayed at all of them, but I have stayed at many and resort hopped to just about all of them to check them out)

What resort have you stayed at that you don’t feel you need to stay at again and why?

For me, it’s the Polynesian. Don’t get me wrong, it is beautiful and I do make sure to visit each trip, but I don’t feel like I need to stay there again. I much prefer Beach Club, Contemporary, GF, WL and POR.

It’s silly, but I don’t like the scent at Captain Cooks and I just wasn’t into the vibe of our room decor last summer. I love Hawaiian theme in general, so I am not sure what exactly I wasn’t into. I wish I wanted to stay there again because it’s my husbands favorite. We even had our wedding reception there!!

I also have never stayed at AKL, but have visited several times, and I don’t fully understand the appeal. I do want to stay at least once since I hear such great reviews.

What resorts just aren’t your cup of tea?

Our one and done was Wilderness Lodge. We stayed in the villas back in 2014 and just didn’t have a good trip. DH had some medical issues. Our room was at the end of a long hallway with a dumpster view. This was before the additions to VWL. I’d like to try it again someday but we have so many other resorts that we like (OKW, SSR, BLT, AKL, BWV). We love Whispering Canyon though!

Following to hear from those who have more experience staying at various resorts.

My dream would be to stay at every resort at least once in my lifetime. They all seem so unique and have their own Disney flair. I've only stayed at Pop and Contemporary, and I would happily stay at both again. We will be staying at Poly in 2021, which I'm super duper excited about. I also really want to stay at AKL, WL, and POFQ - those are high up on my list, too!

Our one and done is PO-RS. We were in a preferred room. It just didn't suit us. We love Poly, AKL, Riviera, CS, and WL. We like CB.

Okay, I'm curious! Why wouldn't you stay at POR again?

I’m from Louisiana so the theme did nothing for me. We had issues at check in. We felt isolated and we were very far from the main building. People rave about this resort and I simply don’t understand why.
It was our first trip back in 7 years and my only regret of the trip is that we stayed there.

Pop was a one and done for us after our stay there that was before its renovation (hated the old rooms). Now that the rooms are renovated, we're eagerly looking forward to returning this December.

We had a wonderful experience tent camping at Fort Wilderness 5 years ago, but my health has declined enough in those 5 years to make camping a thing of the past for me. I was a Cub Scout mom so we camped every once in awhile, and Fort Wilderness was the easiest place we ever camped. I really recommend the Fort Wilderness campsites (in early spring or late fall) to anyone who likes camping.

When it comes to the deluxe resorts, we'd always be happy to stay in each one again. I'm not a fan of the Yacht Club's refurbishment, but that wouldn't stop me from staying there for the sake of enjoying Stormalong Bay.

I wasn't impressed with Pop. I don't care for the theming, nothing impressed me. The only thing I liked was the food court. Actually the only reason I ended up booking there was that I had to reschedule a trip for a month later because of a conflict that came up with work and I had to downgrade from Caribbean Beach in order to keep the cost of the trip close to the original one I had booked. Pop was ok, not horrible, but I don't need to stay there again.

As to not understanding why people love it... I’m sure you get that a resort being not for you doesn’t mean it’s not for others, especially if you had other issues there! Being from the north (and southwest before that) we absolutely love the theming. The pool is so calm and quiet, Yeeha Bob is fun, love the boat to DS, even Boatwright’s is solid. We’ve stayed at 11 of the resorts and love POR as much as any deluxe. But totally get difference of opinion.

Our one and done is Coronado Springs. Weak food selection at the food court, bad pool food, pool in general felt more community pool than a Disney pool. Definitely themed for more convention crowds.

That makes sense! I love POR because I live in CA, so the theming is so different than anything I can find here. I do see people also rave about FQ, and I have visited FQ, but that resort doesn’t appeal to me like POR.

I have never stayed at Pop. The theming doesn’t really appeal to me, but I feel like I am missing something because I read a lot of great reviews about it.

Coronado, long time ago, I think 2001. Didn’t like food court, got stuck with smoking room.
Coronado. Got stuck in a room way around the lake which was a longgggggg way to schlep our luggage both ways. (Bell Services was not available either time) and we did not like the food court. Granted it was also a bit of a letdown after a week at BC Villas in a 1BR.

I feel like people either love it or they don't. I love Caribbean Beach and was really looking forward to staying there so maybe I was just sort of disappointed about missing out on my favorite resort. My 6 year old daughter loved Pop but it was her first trip so she had never seen another resort, she had nothing to compare it to. Also we were there during the renovations, maybe that took away some of the magic for me too.

Same reason why my husband doesn't want to stay there again. He said "we're from the south so it just didn't feel like we were getting away to stay there". We loved French Quarter though.

Was thinking about it after I posted, you mentioned Polynesian. My Mom and I stayed there on our second WDW trip in 1996. Everyone raved about it. Didn't like it. It seemed dark and musty, compared to the brightness of Grand Floridian where we stayed on our first trip in 1994.

But, Polynesian redeemed itself. When the villas opened in 2016, friends & I got a lake view studio with a beautiful castle view. I loved it! I liked Captain Cooks too! We stayed there twice in 2018, third floor rooms in Tokelau. Love the grounds and the location. Love Trader Sams :-).

I have stayed at all the WDW DVC except SSR and CC (did stay in WL before DVC). Can't say there's one that I wouldn't do again.

Our one and done so far is Port Orleans Riverside.

As someone stated, we felt totally isolated. We were in the Mansion section in one of the outlying buildings and I am pretty sure we were the only ones there. Maybe there are people who would enjoy that but it just seemed sad to us.

The main reason we will never stay there again is the bus system with multiple bus stops. It was awful. Traipsing through the parking lots to catch a bus isn’t very magical, and we were stop #3, so the seats were always taken by the time the bus arrived for us.

It IS a beautiful resort though. I would love to stay at POFQ in the future.
