Masks Provide More Protection Against Covid-19 Than A Vaccine

My parents are in their mid 90s and live in one of these senior living places, basically because they are too old to cook and clean for themselves. They are basically locked in a 600 sf room with a TV. They bring them their meals, the dining hall is closed, they can only leave the complex for a medical appointment, no visitors, no walks outside. Of course the complex is scared to death of any covid cases so they take these precautions. And people complain about wearing a masks for a few minutes,

Oh, that must be so hard! <3

I agree that masks work, but it has to have at least two layers of fabric with no large gaps. People walking around with their noses exposed might as well take them off. I keep reading that masks with valves are ineffective.

The valves in these masks are designed to let moisture droplets OUT of the mask. This pretty much defeats the purpose of using masks to prevent coronavirus from transmitting, as we know it "piggybacks" onto exhaled moisture droplets.

Look at Coscto and Home Depot, places at least locally who have been open and required masks from day one 7 days a week. Thousands of customers a week and very few cases. Google and see how many cases come from churches who are open one hour a week, there are a bunch, weddings are another super spreader. Masks work

Many churches in my area have been open for 2 months now and many only recommended masks and no issues. There are thousands of weddings going on every week across the country and the vast majority haven’t had problems. The news picks up on the few and makes it sound like it’s everywhere.

As for Asian countries wearing masks when they’re sick and out in public. Doesn’t it make more sense if your sick stay home. Also there is no way way to have people wear masks for the rest of their lives. That’s just unrealistic. I also feel in a few years there’s going to be a lot of people with breathing issues due to wearing masks all day. It can’t be good to breath in that same stinky air whether it’s your own germs or not. By the end of my work day I’m so tired just from trying to get air through the mask. It’s just such a sad sick world

Of course...but Americans don't do that either.

No, wearing masks for part of a day will not lead to breathing issues in the future. See: professions that actually wear masks ALL DAY

Actually he could be right. We don't know how effective the first vaccine out will be. Further, we don't even know how readily available it will be right off or when it will be approved. If it's just 50% effective, universal mask wearing would in fact be more effective than the vaccine and not wearing masks. We're hoping for better than 50% but 50% is the minimum that would be approved. If or when we have a highly effective vaccine widely available and widely used, then no, masks will not be as effective. But until then, our best bet is to limit contacts and in the case where we must go to places where contact is possible everyone should be wearing a mask.

Surgeons have been wearing masks since the 1920s. Given that we have a 100 year track record of surgeons not keeling over due to breathing issues, I highly doubt we're going to have a lot of people with breathing issues from wearing masks a short time while they are out and about. I suppose it's possible, especially if people make their own mask incorrectly. But it is not probable.

Sure. But, it's also good that school classmates and work colleagues don't show up with obvious cold/flu and no mask.

(Checking in with friends and family who've worn masks everyday during their entire medical careers to make sure nothing is wrong with them.)

I won't be. I will be more than thrilled when we can ditch the covers.

Same. I hate spending all day at work feeling like I have to struggle for a deep breath. And I don't care if people say it's all in my head - it still feels that way.

It just would have been real great if the entire country got behind covid like we did in the past for events like 9-11 or pearl harbor. We could have whipped this thing a lot quicker
Really? What do you think would have happened to the virus? If you think it would have gone away... look to China(?), where they had 0 cases for months, and then more outbreaks.

Not all surgeons are also wearing them for 8 hours or more either , yes some are that do very complicated surgeries but even then those ones don't always do them every day. And they are wearing medical grade products used correctly unlike most people. Surgeons never touch their masks. The general public that is all they do.

I’m going to say the director of the cdc has a bit more insight on the vaccine then we as the general public do. I’m not a fan of masks but we wear them and will keep wearing them.
Good mentality. I don’t like masks either, nobody does I don’t think anyone is a “fan” of masks. Most sane people realize there is no choice as the alternative is worse ( staying lockdown in our homes and businesses closed ).

Thought to be honest I’m looking forward for the first day temps reach sub 0° and having a mask covering my face.
