Moving a DLR Trip to Walt Disney World- Let’s Talk!

Dragged the suitcase off the shelf in the garage today so I can start tossing things in in (we don't leave for another 11 days).

I pulled out all my Disneyland shirts from the closet. Some of them are tank tops so I hope I get a chance to wear them!

I honestly don't have a clue what to think about the weather and how I will "feel." I live in Phoenix so I am used to hot... but I also get cold really easily so I guess it'll be a lot of shirts, long sleeved undershirts, and a hoodie!

Glitch ADRs cancelled en masse today. Although Yak & Yeti, Rainforest Cafe are still alive for me. Topolino’s, Oga’s & Beaches and Cream cancelled. Received email confirmation for each along with a note on each I’ll receive a $25 gift card.

Have you been to Hawaii? That’s the frame of mind I use. (Although the weather got freaky last time I went mid-Nov and ended up with highs in the 50s by the end of trip 🤦🏻‍♀️)

The humidity might kick your rear so be ready. Give me 110 any day over 90 and humid 😂

I have, but I'm embarrassed to say how long ago it was. I recall it raining on and off the whole time we were there.

Yes, I am very worried about the humidity. I mean... should be better than it was in July I suppose, but I've never been to the southeastern part of the country so :scared1:.

I've been keeping an eye on the 10 day forecast and I guess I'll just plan to bring everything... and throw in a couple pairs of shorts for good measure, I guess!

Like PP said, think Hawaii, or a tropical climate with humidity. If the days are "good", meaning not too hot, it should be very nice.

I'm also very used to the desert climate like you (I find socal humid lol).

The humidty in Southern California (Disneyland or San Diego) has never bothered me, but I do know that when I am there, the moment the sun goes down I freeze.

Somehow I don't think that'll be the case in Florida! My sister (who also is a desert rat like me) just got back a few weeks ago and she said she was very warm even after sundown. Of course she was there beginning of October and this will be 6 weeks later....

Be prepared for anything, I guess!

Oof speaking of that humid Florida climate, there's a tropical storm hanging out off the coast off Florida right now. We arrive Friday and as long as this thing doesn't move (it is 2020 so my luck it will move to be right on top of me) it shouldn't rain us out on our trip.

I bought disposable ponchos (higher quality than most but still disposable) but now I'm going back and forth on whether I should just buy us more durable ponchos off Amazon. I have until tomorrow to decide to make sure they get here in time but yikes. Right now it says its only going to rain our first day but the forecast for the week we're there keeps changing every hour.

And all I can think of is 'Man, at Disneyland I don't have to worry about hurricanes!'

I keep debating what to do about ponchos too. I decided that I wouldn’t worry about it and if we do end up needing heavier duty ones, we will just buy the Disney ponchos. I know those are good quality. We have friends at WDW right now. I can ask them later in the week what the weather is like if you want. They arrived on Saturday and are staying two weeks for their honeymoon.

So excited for you for your trip!! Are you all packed? Our magic bands arrived yesterday and it made our trip feel so real now!! Lol. We also bought magic your bands stickers for them. Can’t wait!!!

Honestly, go with what you have. And if you need better, buy the Disney ones. They are great quality and in 25+ trips, we have only had to replace them 2-3 times total. They last a long time so you will get a lot of use out of them. I also like that they are clear so you can more or less see your family member based on their clothes underneath them. Oh and bring a baseball hate (or 2) that you do not mind getting very wet and wear it over the hood so the hood stays up and the water off your face!

We were there for a hurricane (Jeanne) in 2004. Not that I would want to experience another, but Disney is right in the middle of the state so the worst will be over by the time it gets to Disney. People on the coast often evacuate to Disney if that gives you an idea. ETA should be mostly a rain and wind event. I doubt the parks will close for it.

Oh yes, Magic Bands ready and suitcases are nearly packed! I think it dawned on me today I’ll actually be leaving my house and I got so excited! Been working remotely since March and I think I'm starting to go nutty haha! We can't wait!!

Great tips- thank you! It didn't even occur to me they'd have them for sale there- of course, they would- duh! That's a much easier solution. The 10 day forecast keeps saying its going to miss the days we're there but I'm not sure I'm quite that lucky haha.

We are just back from our week at WDW and it was super fun. I'm planning to do a trip report sooner than later but I wanted to pop in here quickly and say... I do think DLR is better. 8-)

One of the main things is the size. I'd much rather walk 15 minutes on Harbor than a 20-minute bus ride plus waiting for the bus another 20 minutes. And I like how the parks at DLR are more compact.

I think the quick service food is better at DLR as well, and I think some of the rides are better (especially Pirates & Splash) although Jungle Cruise is better at WDW - I like the extra scene in the underground temple. I missed the extra rides in Fantasyland - Snow White & Mr. Toad & Alice... Although it was fun to see Country Bear Jamboree again, and the Seven Dwarves was really fun. And we loved Slinky Dog Dash.

Another thing I liked better at WDW was how many of the ride queues were so neat. The Darlings' nursery in Peter Pan is adorable, and the Toy Story Mania line is super cute too.

The weather was pretty good when we were there. I'd been worried about humidity but it wasn't a problem. Lows in the high 60s and highs in the low 80s. It was a little warm in the middle of the day if you were in a sunny line but otherwise we were comfortable in shorts & t-shirts, plus a light sweatshirt for the kids on the earlier morning days. I know that this week is a different story though with Eta coming in!

Overall we are really glad that we were able to go and get some Disney in this year!

HI All,

I am another Disneylander with a trip booked at WDW. I'm using all the money I would have been using to pay for our APs. We are leaving on 19th, one day at Universal, then 5 nights at WDW staying at the contemporary. I'm so excited!!
Awesome!!! Can’t wait to hear all about it!!

Our first park day is today! Last night we went to Disney Springs and boy, it was a madhouse. It got worse after 7PM (likely due to the parks closing) and felt no different than pre-pandemic times. I did have two people bump right into me (what’s the deal folks lol!) so that doesn’t say much about the physical distancing. Mask compliance was okay, l saw lots of people take them off for photos though in crowded walkways, etc.

That being said, I felt that most of the time we had space to weave around people without getting close. The stores were managed with lines so they never felt too overwhelming.

I would avoid evenings if you can, we expected it to be crowded but not that crowded. I didn’t see any sign they were even counting capacity, we had our temp checked and in when went. If you’re feeling hesitant about crowds, I’m not sure you’d feel comfortable at Disney Springs.
