This is Us- Season four

Maybe the accident will end Kevin's acting career somehow. Or even just leaving the movie he was working on - stopping or delaying production could get him blackballed. Maybe he'll pursue construction like Jack.

Was the accident in the previews? Maybe I looked away at the end and didn’t see it. Was wondering why people were worried about Kevin...lol

Never get the previews it cuts off on my channel.

I actually liked the episode. Now that Randall has his answers, he can find some peace and move on.

I agree. I love knowing Laurel's backstory, and I think it’s going to be very healing for Randall. And I also loved how when they introduced Hai, he was teaching his granddaughter patience, and he was exactly the same way when telling Randall and Beth (and the audience, of course) the story.

I completely forgot to question the gator-less lake, though!

We know he is okay though because we have seen him in the future.

I realized that about Keven, too. My first reaction was “oh, no!” And then it dawned on me that we have seen him in the future.

I’m glad Randall called him, and hope it is the beginning of them patching things up.

I found in unrealistic that she would have gotten 5 years in prison for a drug overdose/possession.

I think I would be unrealistic for many of us, but that the writers may have been making a point. It was quite possibly something that Laurel and William had to consider a lot more carefully than I would.

What I saw was 2 people who forgot to talk about how they were going to live their life together. I think it happens a lot...

That’s a really good point! I may have been a little too hard on Madison last week. And I agree that a lot of people on real life should have more of those conversations.

I am disturbed that the way the story was told made Laurel a victim of circumstances, completely blameless and not at all responsible for any of her choices or actions over her entire lifetime. She had some hard knocks, but she inflicted some damage on herself and others by choices she made also.

I didn't think about alligators, but I found Randall going in the lake trite, predictable and creepy.

But on the flip side could you say that Laurel accepted responsibility? She served her time, she had to live with the fact that she missed out on love/romance, family, and knowing her child.

You hit the nail the producers oh so carefully placed there for you exactly on the head. That's precisely my quibble. Watching the story you could feel the machinations the writers went through to craft the story that gave Randall a mother who couldn't be with him through no fault of her own.

Her childhood story was slightly heavy handed in the way it presented her father's overbearing ways. Where it really fell apart was trying to come up with a way to explain how adult Laurel loved and wanted her baby so badly, yet everything conspired against her to keep them apart. Looking at her story from a different perspective she could have stayed with Hai if she loved him that deeply, no matter what her father thought about it. It was cruel to leave him picking up the pieces of his heart when she left. She knew he was truly stuck. She could have made a different choice right there. When she returned it had to have been difficult for him, and possibly for his wife as well if he had shared his past with her. Conveniently the wife dies, leaving Laurel to wind up with the devotion of her first love. That story only works if only the best interests of Laurel and Randall are important, to the exclusion of everyone else. Too trite and heavy handed for my taste.

I think he’ll keep acting. Didn’t someone on here spot an Oscar on his shelf in the future? And didn‘t he say that he would love to be able to take Rebecca to an awards show or something to that effect? I think he wins an Oscar for the movie he’s working on and Rebecca accompanies him before her illness gets too bad.

I'm not sure what I thought about last nights episode. I'm glad Randall has some answers to all his "What ifs". I also thought the thing with Hei handing over the keys was a little weird - it's like there isn't going to be probate and paperwork and lawyers involved in transferring that house to him. Who has been paying all the bills on it since Laurel died? Hei? That seems like a pretty big expense to take on with the 1 in a million chance that Laurel's long lost son will show up to lay claim to it. I know, I know - It's just a TV show, but stuff like that annoys me.

What are they going to do with the house? It's not like they are rich enough to realistically afford their current lifestyle.

Thoughts on last night in no particular order -

* Alligators
* Probate
* Creepy lake scene that might just enter my dreams
* Fire the casting director and maybe the editor
* I miss Deja
* The Practice
* Randall's ***
* I think *I* could marry Beth :drinking1:laughing:

Well since I thought that was an absurd episode -- but did think the first half was beautifully filmed - I want to revisit last week.

I thought Toby's scenes at the table were beyond exquisite. Writing and acting. I now have to apologize for thinking Toby was a complete *** in season one. Sorry Tobster.

The final moments between Randall and Beth last week, where no words were needed on deciding to turn a page, were beautifully acted and directed. The two of them are a wonder to watch at times.

They might have to pay an inheritance tax on it plus: property taxes, utilities, homeowners insurance, maintenance, etc.

There's not going to be an inheritance tax. The estate would pay any taxes owed--highly unlikely, since it doesn't look like Laurel would go near the limit (I believe it's $11M, but haven't been keeping up).

However, you're right about keeping up on the property taxes, as well as all the maintenance-type things that go with home ownership. And assuming Laurel's estate went through probate, they would have made a good faith effort to find Laurel's son (last seen in Pittsburgh--gee, maybe start there? Maybe by tracking down William, who was still alive and living in Pittsburgh, at the address where Rebecca had found him, decades before?)

I thought I was the only one who found it creepy! Randall was naked as he walked in the water. I kept thinking about all the "stuff" that lives in lakes (gators, poisonous snakes, toxic algae) Then when they showed him and the water was up to his chin, it was almost comical looking. I knew it wasn't supposed to be funny, but it looked like a floating head. I also miss Deja. She is one of my fav's on the show. Deja and Beth. Just love them.

OMG yes! As he's chin deep in water talking to his dead mother, all I kept thinking was...he's naked under there!!!
