Disney's Club Level (CL) Information & Questions

It sounds like nuts are not covered by their allergy signs- which is crazy considering how prevalent that allergy is! Did you ask to speak with a chef? At other CLs Pre-Covid it used to be a chef could come out and point out what was safe/ what was not and offer alternatives if nothing worked.
Please see my follow up postings.

As far as I recall, the CL's don't have allergen signs. Many restaurants do. Some desserts did say peanut.

We did not ask to speak to a chef. We did tell the staff in advance though AND fill out the paper form. We did request some foods, based on our prior experience. On prior trips, I think the chef came in person the first day, even without us asking. One chef at BC...she just came by for every meal. She was super helpful! Gf also did that a few times. A chef just came to check on us.

I don't know I'd say it that way...

The WDW procedure for CL allergies has 3 parts : you're supposed to report it before you arrive, again when you arrive, and -potentially- ask them to bring in food that has been specially prepared each meal. Most of the time though, that last step wasn't necessary. The chefs were all super pre-pandemic.

For most food allergies though, WDW was pretty easy. Gluten is always tough to avoid, but nuts, and I think most of the big 8 common allergens were easy to avoid because WDW was thoughtful. I can't speak to all allergens, but WDW did a pretty good job of just offering whole foods. So like at the Crystal Palace- there was a salad bar- so you picked what you wanted on your salad. It was easy to steer clear of the croutons say. Or choose the always safe vinegarette dressing. (vinegar and oil, maybe salt, sugar)

Some items are always...well like a box of chocolates- you never know what is inside the chocolate until you bite it. Might be fruit, might be coconut, might be peanut butter. People with allergies know to steer clear of items like random chocolates.

WDW also understood consistency: Dolewhips are the same as they've been for decades, everyone KNOWS they NEVER contain the top 8 allergens. So no need to ask if they are safe.

On club level though, if you need staff to bring a specific non-allergy item...they have to bring it all the way from the kitchen, so that takes time. I don't mean to sound ungrateful of the effort, but it is easier for everyone if they don't have to do that. Especially in the age of G+.

So that's why we were so surprised the current CR offerings are SO DIFFERENT from what they have been over the last 10+ years. People ask about allergens all the time in this thread. So please spread the word if anyone asks! They will need to be careful at CR for now.
My point is they need to be careful in all CL
None of them are pointing out Allergens on their signs

I'm pretty sure they had the chicken salad with peanuts in it when I was there last October. I actually took it back to my table but decided to ask a CM about it before eating any of it. The CM came back and said 'yes, peanuts'. I often skip over desserts because there are nuts involved that you may not see and I don't want to take a chance. I am so used to looking out for peanuts that I automatically skip things I am doubtful about but a child could grab something and that would be a disaster. Allergies are serious.

So we have a deluxe club stay coming up at BWI. Today I noticed I could use my Disney+ subscriber discount for

Outer Bldg - Garden Room - Club Level Access

Now, that’s way outside of the Innkeepers club area, right? So would be a long haul in the morning, etc to try and grab a quick coffee? Not sure it would be worth it, thoughts anyone?

Yes these rooms are the 2 story units in the Courtyard by the BWI quite pool. They have a lovely front porch or a large balcony off the second floor Mater bedroom.

Since they are in the BWI Courtyard you need to take the stairs or the elevators to the 4th floor and walk around to the Boardwalk area to reach the Inn Keeper's Lounge doors.

It is not a major hike but you want to plan your trips and maybe eat in the lounge vs taking your drinks / food back to your Cottage.

The only sleep 2 adults.

If you are a couple I would consider this. If you are 2 friends traveling together I would not. Just to note that since these are kinda like their honeymoon cottages. King bed, jacuzzi tub, 2 bathrooms is nice though. They do have a sleeper sofa but really are designed for a couple in a more intimate setting

I don’t think I have ever seen allergy warnings in any of our many club level stays. Did you talk to them about your allergies on arrival or at any of The offering times? Hopefully they provided something safe for you if you discussed it with them. Strange since they seem so cooperative with gluten allergies. But nut allergies can be so much more life threatening.
Yes, as I described in my other postings. To be fair, as I said there are 3 parts to allergen discussions: Telling them in advance, paper upon arrival, and talking to chef at each food offering/requesting special plate of food. We did part one, part two, and sometimes part three this visit. Part three is where CL gets very unclear, and often uncomfortable. I don't want to mischaracterize the staff, but some are annoyed when asked about food that isn't on the line. It happened at least twice this visit.

To be fair though, the manager did apologize for the chicken salad, and made an effort to remedy the situation. We plan to follow up with him, and hopefully CR will improve.

An image tells a story. This was our last morning, when there were less nuts. Still if you look at left lower basket, the tongs are coated in icing, so just about 100% guaranteed to have pistachios all over them. It is slightly hard to see, but the pistachio croissants have a coating of pistachio slices.

On the right case of the photo, the labels don't match. The "golden raisins" are clearly walnuts. That in itself is problem and a careless mistake. People employed in serving food should know that's a problem!

In this case, someone with a pistachio allergy is needlessly unable to have ANY of the breads in the left case. If the breads were simply arranged differently, that whole case would be much safer. As arranged though, even the white/wheat bread are off-limits. That's just a dumb way to set up a buffet.

I guess I’m lost with what you are saying. I do admit I looked for your later posts on it and couldn’t locate them. But anyway, you sort of sound like you realize the buffets aren’t nut friendly but then are annoyed they have nuts. So it’s unclear what you’d like to have them do. They may be unclear too.
i’ve never seen them set up the buffet to be nut friendly, which you mentioned and as such they aren’t making an effort to prevent cross contamination. When it isn’t nut or allergy friendly there is no need to worry about cross contamination, no? I’ve always seen anyone with allergies get food covered and brought to them directly. So I’m not sure what you are saying they did wrong since it’s how it’s done CL property wide in all my stays. Well, should use the right labels. I think sometimes they start out with one food item and run out and bring another and leave the sign out. I see that happen all the time. Some CL just give up signs all the way around. Don’t know if that’s better or worse.

We’ve only done them once several years ago. The trip to the lounge was annoying for us. With CL stays I will typically stop by the lounge for a quick lemonade or to just see what’s out. I skipped that most of the time when we were in the cottage. We never ran into a totally full lounge but we were thinking “what if” every time we went up there. The cottages are definitely too far to carry apps or breakfast back to the room as we can do at other resorts. For us anyway. One other thing we noticed, that climb up the stairs to the bedroom was hard for us after a day walking the parks. They’re beautiful but we haven’t been in a rush to stay there again.

I can't fully explain life with food allergies in this thread, I'm sorry.

I have posted many times in this forum that all the CL staff were great with allergies, except one unfortunate AKL experience. We have MANY CR stays, plus many more CL stays at all the WDW and Universal CL's going back about 15 years, plus 50 years of WDW visits. Rarely have we had any problems at WDW. Ever.

This is why I felt it was important to post a warning to say this visit was different from every prior visit: so people with food allergies would know to be more careful than was necessary in the past.

Simply, I don't want anyone to die.

Yes, it's constant vigilance. My family is used to looking out for peanuts so they will usually tell me if they notice something that you wouldn't think would have peanuts in it. I was suprised at the chicken salad but if anything is in mixed form I will ask out of caution.

GF RPC again - missed apps last night because we were at the party (side note, the fireworks were amazing). No pics this morning because we were in a hurry and it was getting packed right at opening, but they had spanish tortilla (baked omelet) with chorizo, thick sliced ham, biscuits and turkey gravy, plant-based sausage, berries/melon, apple muffins, multigrain croissants, cinnamon rolls, sliced turkey, sliced swiss, oatmeal.

Mousekeepers even funnier today once they saw additional Ursula costume (more of a bound) pieces from last night. (Eta: don’t know how well you can see the ears, but they have tentacles; also wore purple skort printed with tentacles and a golden seashell necklace. It was pretty entertaining when not covered by a poncho, but we were obvs lightweights last night, costume-wise!)

I would say, we usually do as well, especially when dining some place for the first time. We try to look out for each other!
