Pop up ads on these boards... WAy more obnoxious than in the past??

I feel a little bad about not supporting disboards, but the ads are so obnoxious I use an ad blocker.

I think a lot of us would forego the adblockers to support the site if it wasn't so over the top.

Same here. I have an android and refuse (so far) to use a different browser for a single website.

Give in, Sam. I did the other day. I just have the Firefox icon on my home page, just like my Chrome one. If I want to use this board, I just use Firefox. It is great.

Yes, stand on principle about many things. But, this one is only annoying your own ability to read & enjoy the DIS. When you post, we don't see which browser you posted from.

Whenever I get a new phone, I immediately remove all the bloatware apps installed. But, some, I have to install for work or to play a game, etc. There is no other way to view or use those items. Just think of Firefox as your DIS app.

I use adblocker and works great in general. Yesterday this rather amateurish looking jpg ad started to appear on only the 'Transportation' board. The 'X' that normally closes out such ads is part of the picture on this one, so clicking anywhere on it jumps to their ad.................annoying.

EXACTLY!

And if the ads were small and unobtrusive TPB could post weekly posts, "Remember to click on some ads. They really help support the site!"

But, when the ads are this obnoxiously in our faces and slow the time each page loads, sorry. Ads blocked!

BTW, when I visit new sites I haven't been to before, and I see the plethora of ads like on the DIS, I immediately back out of that site.

I'm worried that the site is filled with malware links. And I try NOT to click on anything while I'm closing the page.

This is a precise example of how I don't even click on the 'X' when visiting an unknown site to me. I don't trust the 'X' will actually work, but instead install malware or send me to a malicious site that will install it once that page loads.

Tricks like the above example don't make the DIS appear trustworthy. It works against the site.

Sorry Dan, I don't know. I tried to adjust the AdBlocker for android and it didn't do anything about the banner. They don't bother me as much as the ones that used to appear in the middle of threads. (Thank goodness those are gone.) So, I just skim past the ones at the top.

What Adblocker did you find that works with Android?

I never use the internet on my phone. Most websites don't seem properly formatted for viewing that way and word wrap or the various buttons to push get all jumbled. Checking something on the net can wait until I am back home and can use my PC.

But it works so well. Try it for 30 minutes on this board. It works so well, no ads. If you want the ads back, uninstall it and continue with Chrome or whatever browser you use. At @Imzadi's recommendation, I tried it. I only use it here on the dis. No ads. I continue to use Chrome 100% for everything else. The Firefox app icon is on my homepage. I click it, the dis comes up, no ads.

I refuse. I just don't check the Dis as often from mobile. If TPTB don't care, then neither do I.
