Just back from our cruise, and sorry to hear about all the travel woes some have had. We had amazing weather in the Caribbean and were sad to come home to SC coldest temps ever!
I’ll add my little experience with our flights yesterday, Xmas eve, from MIA to CLT. Flights were booked with points on AA. They offered us the option in the app to get a voucher and switch our flights. We weren’t sure if we wanted to do it or not, but it said you have the option to accept or reject up until you board, so we said what the heck, we’ll choose the highest amount and see what happens. Sure enough, there were like 25 ppl on standby trying to get on our flight, and they offered DH and I both $975 in vouchers to switch our flights, so a total of $1950.
I was not about it, since we never pay for flights with money anyways, and they have to be used within a year and all our travel for the next year is booked already, but DH really wanted to do it. The flights they were trying to put us on to switch had a connection in Norfolk though, and put us into CLT around 9pm instead of the original 3pm nonstop. In the end, we didn’t take it, and left as scheduled on our original flight. I was ready to get home to the dogs, and with the holiday and all the flight cancellations, I was worried we might wind up stuck in Virginia overnight.
We could’ve made a pretty penny in AA vouchers, but I was glad to make it home on time. Getting our luggage though was a sh*+ show! They only had one carousel working at baggage claim for all the AA flights. There were about a dozen of them from all over, so all the bags were just coming through randomly from everywhere. We waited an hour for ours, but some people had already been waiting 3 hours for theirs. No employees to be found anywhere. The whole experience made me remember why we don’t normally fly on the holidays lol.
Oh, and when a baggage boy did finally come out once, he told someone that they offloaded a departing plane by mistake, and that plane left without any luggage. So they had an entire plane’s worth of luggage piled up in the middle of the airport, waiting to be loaded onto another plane. I feel bad for the people on that flight that get to their destination with no bags.
