August Refurbs List

This is my first and probably last time as I live on the east coast. I know there are other things to look forward to but I was really most excited for HM and RSR. Just a bummer. Thank you for the positivity!!!
I hope you enjoy Disneyland so much you plan to come back. I am an East Coaster too and I prefer DL to WDW.

RSR still down on Aug 24. :( I'm resigning myself to it being down my whole trip.

This is so disappointing. No Fantasmic, no Monorail and no Toy Story Mania during a time when families with little ones take their summer vacations. Last time we went in 2017 I don't recall hardly any rides/attractions being down.

I agree. There are a lot of summer refurbishments this year. You are correct when comparing to 2017. The Monorail is down for its own refurb but also the construction in DD. Toy Story Mania is down for almost 30 days because there entire computer system is being replaced and upgraded. Fantasmic is a real loss I agree with that.

They literally said they are working to get it fixed for September, not sure what they could even put in that spot in the mean time if they are actively working on it.
True. They could run the parade again at night. Do a nighttime parade character cavalcade, Easy enough to do.

General observation here and not intended towards anyone in particular. But I find it really weird how so many folks complain about things not given the proper maintenance AND then complain because things go down for refurbishment like Disney personally targeted their vacations.

I get that it sucks when things you want to do are down on your trip. But I just honestly appreciate that they are getting some much needed maintenance in there before the busy holiday season.

When I was a youngster my family used to go down in mid August because my dad would go to an annual coaching convention then. Matterhorn was almost always closed when we went. And of course this was before Big Thunder Mountain.

I agree. But this summer there have been a lot of refurbishments. I know the Fantasyland refurbs were all weather related and roof repairs. The Monorail down for almost 2 months is DD related.
They are getting a lot done before the Halloween and Holiday season. Monorail and Toy Story will be down for my August trip and I am upset about the Monorail (but I will live) but really happy that I get everything else even Haunted Mansion for 5 days before it goes down.

This is unreal. I'm so disappointed that so many things will be closed. Even WDW doesn't have that many closures at one time. Definitely a one and done trip out there for me. Sorry to be such a downer but I've been looking forward to this trip since April 2020 when I orginally booked the trip.

they could run Fantasmic in B Mode (the dragon would be shown on the water)
They claim to be reworking the show.....I don't want to star rumors but I kind think the ending will be changed to no longer have a dragon in it.

I hope I'm wrong but considering they said they are updating the show, I think it's something we could see changed,

Disney must have also know this was going to be a slow summer because with all the refurbs and no replacing Fantasmic, they seem fine with doing the bare minimum this summer to draw guests in

I don't feel that Disney personally targeted my vacation, but there the fact that refurbishments are happening in the summer rather than slower times in winter is quite ridiculous. I understand that DL is a locals park but I'm not a local and I don't have the ability to travel to DL at any time. I believe that Disney does not think of its fan base when making decisions.

I know! I'm trying to be positive but there are so many things down already, what if more rides are down when we are there?

Still happy but the losses keep coming. Fantasmic, monorail, multiple rides....

Knowing so much would be down in August I really don't get why they didn't hold off on shutting down Splash Mountain for a bit.

Here is the thing tho, winter is not the slow time at DLR. Halloween and Christmas are in fact the high seasons and have been for a few years now. As OP mentioned, the Monorail closure is partly related to the construction at DD, Haunted Mansion goes down every year for the theme change, and has been happening since I have memory. I always plan for early August specifically because I missed HM one year and never again :rotfl:

It's actually smart of Disney to get all the refurbs needed done in slow summer instead of in the middle of the busiest months of the year. Specially October. RSR breaking down would make crowds horrible in DCA during those months.

Yeah it seems Disney has a lot of things coming up because they don't have the senor maintenance.

Splash closing for a year and No Fantasmic are things I wish they tried to offset more but......even the Adventureland Tree house/Big Hero 6 Reskins aren't going to make summer.

I do see fall as a huge time for people to go now, and the start of this year was strong but Mickey ride just opened as well. I hope they do more projects next January so for the most part next summer most rides/shows are open.
