So I kind of feel like my PJ is boring since there are only a couple of people reading it (but thank you so much for those who do! )
Oh well...
So we had our planning session on Feb 2. It lasted from 10-6:30 and was great! We started off with a tasting session at the GF kitchen. My parents and DF came along. Immediately upon walking in, I was impressed. The table was set up so nice! There was a waiter with a tux on and the chef was cooking right there. I love the show Top Chef and have always said that I want to be a guest to eat on the show and at the tasting, I felt like I was! The chef did such a wonderful job with the presentation and explaining everything!
I thought we would have one plate and everyone would taste from that one dish. Nope! So wrong! We each got a full size serving of EVERYTHING! I was soooo full! Here's what we tried:
**Cocktail Hour(I don't really remember their correct names, sorry)--we each had two pieces of these:
~Bacon wrapped scallops--my MOH got married at Disney 9 years ago and had this at her wedding and said it was the hit of the night. We hadn't originally planned on this but she made us try it and I'm so glad she did! It was definitely the best appetizer!
~Chicken empanada--this was sort of plain so we decided to change it to bacon wrapped beef with blue cheese (I know it will be another bacon appetizer but my mom really wanted it)
~Cold blue cheese mushroom tart thingy--I didn't pay attention to the fact that it was cold so I didn't like it too much. We are changing it to a warm cheese mushroom tarlet.
~We are also having a cheese and fruit station but we didn't sample this.
**We will be having a Caesar salad and they will be making me a cheese crisp thing like they have a Flying Fish Cafe. I asked for this especially because it was sooo good there. But we didn't bother sampling the salad.
**Appetizer:
~Crab cakes with a mango chutney: I love crab cakes but when the chef said he was serving it on the chutney I thought "eww". I hate chutney. But oh my, this was so good! The crab cakes had a little cajun seasoning and the chutney was more like teeny fruit pieces. MMM
~Mushroom ravioli: This was really good too, but we decided we like the crab cakes more. So everyone will get the crabcakes unless they are vegetarian, in which they will get this ravioli.
**Entree--these servings were HUGE and we each got a whole one!
~ Filet of steak with scalloped potatoes, carrots, and asparagus: I have to be honest. The steak was not good. My family, DF and I all like our steaks medium rare. These were well, well, done. So very dry. There was no flavor at all. When we mentioned this to the chef, he apologized and said that he always starts cooking when the guest enters the kitchen and he had gotten to talking and cooked the steaks too much (he and my parents had a bunch in common so they got to talking about random things). We said that we would like all of the steaks to be cooked medium rare. I hope that's okay with the guests and I am hoping they turn out well. It's so expensive for this and I know my parents are going to have a fit if the steaks turn out to be bad! But the scallopped potatoes were so yummy!!!
~Chicken breast with orange glaze, fingerling potatoes, carrots, and asparagus: The sauce on the chicken was sooo good! We decided to swap out the fingerling potatoes with some kind of cheesy mashed potatoes (I am getting the steak dinner but I am also adding these mashed potatoes to it, along with the scalloped ones for myself!)
~ White bean ravioli--this was a new dish and let me say. EWW! The sauce tasted like pure peanuts. Now I hate nuts in the first place so I couldn't get past that to try the ravioli, but my parents and DF didn't like it. Even our wedding planner tried this and didn't like it. We switched to some kind of artichoke pasta.
I had so much fun at this. I am so glad that we got to do it, and it made me feel special. I want to go do it again!
