Your favorite "other" vacation spot?

Another outer banks family (Corrolla), and Hawaii every 3-5 years.

Three suggestions:

San Diego -- San Diego Zoo, Wild Animal Park (Escondido), Balboa Park, Old Town Trolley, Petco Park (San Diego Padres), Maritime Museum, Hotel del Coronado, Old Town San Diego, Midway Aircraft Carrier Museum, Star of India, The Whaley House, Gaslamp Quarter, Seaport Village, Little Italy

Palm Desert -- Aerial Tramway, Living Desert, Joshua Tree National Park , Palm Springs Air Museum, Palm SPrings Art Museum

Phoenix -- Phoenix Zoo, Desert Botanical Gardens, Talieson West (Frank Lloyd Wright), Verde Canyon Railroad, Boyce Thomson Arboretum Trail, Chuckwagon Dinner Theater, Roosevelt/Apache Lake Recreation Areas, Sedona, Petrified Forest National Park, Spring baseball

Another vote for Destin, FL (I actually prefer the Beaches of South Walton County, which is between Destin and Panama City Beach, and a little more laid back.) Great, great beaches and plenty of touristy things for your boys to enjoy. We vacationed here for years but got tired of the drive from Chicago. If it were easier to fly down there, we'd be there more often!

Hawk's Cay resort in the Florida Keys is a nice alternative. They have 1, 2, and 3 bedroom villas as well as hotel rooms and have just completed a 30 million dollar renovation. They have on site water sports, a dolphin program, and great pools. Many rooms have water views.

There are many options. HH is our favorite single vacation spot other than Orlando. For summer, I'd agree with many of the choices including a number of Caribbean spots, FL beaches, MB, Outer Banks. I'd add Williamsburg and Gatlinburg as possibilities. One of the issues is getting something, esp for this summer. Very unlikely for the FL panhandle, MB or the Keys. West Palm and similar areas (Captiva/Sanibel), Caribbean, MX, Gatlinburg and Williamsburg are all possible to get an exchange, esp for a full week. LV, Ski areas in Summer, and similar are also considerations. MX and the US Desert's will be very hot, maybe even worse than Orlando in Summer.

Hilton Head, SC; Destin/Panama City, FL; and Pigeon Forge, TN (Smoky Mts in warmer months only).

Our favorite "other vacation spot" is Lake George, NY in the Adirondaks. Instead of using DVC points at The Sagamore(Grand Floridian of Lake George) we stay at "The Heritage of Lake George". The resort is family owned, in the Village of Lake George. They have some rooms with 2 queen beds and Kitchenettes, as well as Efficiencies... one of which is a 3 bedroom house that sleeps up to 12 and has a private pool! www.heritageoflakegeorge.com
It is withing walking distance of shopping, restaurants and some attractions. They are also on the "Trolly line".(trolly buses)

Aaahhh...Wildwood, NJ. My kids LOVED it when they were younger.

Warm weather in winter? Try St. Martin. The French side is relaxing, the Dutch side has casinos and more night life. And there are beaches everywhere.

We have another timeshare in St Maarten and absolutely love it. We go every year...

Destin or Panama City----

Or Australia...

But honestly Destin is the most beautiful beach in the world..

We go just a bit down the road from there to Orange Beach/Gulf Shores, AL. You are right though, the beaches from Panama City to Gulf Shores (including Rosemary Beach, Seaside, Destin, Navarre, Pensacola Beach, Perdido Key, and Orange Beach) are all great...

Hard to beat the beautiful beaches of Panama City or Destin,Fl!

definitely agree.

also like St Augustine, Fl

closer to Orlando - Clearwater beach it is near Tampa.

Gatinburg is fine - but it is in the mountains - so if you want warmer might try to stick to Florida

For an international trip, we go to the Azores. It's only a 4 1/2 flight from Boston and they are a part of Europe. Everyone there speaks English which makes it nice. The islands are a wealth of unspoiled natural beauty with old world charm but with every modern amenity!

We're going back this summer! :thumbsup2

A few of my favorite places:

With Kids: Vail (summertime, mountain biking) , South Lake Tahoe (Winter, snowboarding, casinos), National parks (yellow, canyon), Disneyland

Without Kids: Monaco (casinos), Paris (Wine), London (Harrods), Bath (gotta live forever), New York (crazy people), Pac-No-West/Seattle (Sea food), Disneyland

:)

We've cruised, done all inclusives in Mexico, been to San Francisco and Montery, gone to Europe with the kids. The kids would like to go skiing or to a Dude Ranch. But we don't ski (the kids do, their parents don't). Teenagers are tough though and your limitation on warm - but with lots of things teens can do - makes it tough. Warm implies a winter getaway. Winter getaways are often sitting on a beach drinking - which teens can't do.

I'd actually be tempted to take them skiing. They can ski and stay busy, you can sit in the warm lodge or a room with a fireplace and a dozen books or your DVD collection.

Hawaii!

Cruises are fun too.

We've also had fun in Gatlinburg, Wisconsin Dells, New Orleans, California (San Francisco, San Diego, and Anaheim of course!), Austin and San Antonio, Williamsburg, Vancouver and Whistler.

Here is another yell out for the "Jersey Shore" Wildwood area. We do a Family reunion every 2 years there and rent about 10 condos right on the beginning end of the Boardwalk. We find it appeals to all ages from the youngest babies for the calm waters to our teenage and 20 something who love the excitement of a large Bordwalk. It has 3 piers of rides and lots of fun things to do.:dance3::dance3:

We enjoy San Antonio Texas. Lots of history and entertainment and Theme parks.

D.C. was great and will definitely return to see more.

My kids have started skiing, I haven't been since college(wasn't that good back in the day) but I've taken it up again in my mid 40's.

Yes I do spend a lot of time on my bum and when I get fed up, I head over to the tubing area(at least there I have a big cushion).

Plus it's fun to get a warm hot drink(Irish coffee) and watch the kids with the other parents.
