...I would like to decorate my cabin door. I was wondering how I make the magnets and if I need a special computer program to do this?...

I actually use MS Word - everyone tells me this is the hard way, but that's what I've got and learned how to manipulate. Wish I could figure out some other program to utilize to do graphics. I'm on a Mac - they're supposed to be easy. :goodvibes

I've used Minnie for our last few cruises, but the parts got damaged beyond repair on the way home from the last WBTA.

Swithering what to print out too, I love Stitch, but wondering whether to stick with Mickey or Minnie..... the indecisive libran in me will ponder this one for months :rotfl2:

You've got 2 weeks - why not have a week of each?

I use art I've found here and various places on the 'Net, and print it on the magnetic sheets. I put multiple pictures on each sheet and cut them up. I usually do a couple of test runs on regular paper, though, to make sure I've got it right.

We can do this anyway we want to. I like the idea of doing gifts for all the cabins, but I also know I've got budget limits, too. I like the multiple groups idea, but I think we need to wait a bit before we decide how many staterooms per group (remember, not everyone is a "family") to see what our total will be.

We can do it this way, but I really don't like the idea of imposing too many "rules" on this. I'd rather let people do it when it's convenient for them, rather than assigning days. On our last trip, some people gave a little thing more than once (we left something every day, but again, only a 4-nighter), and some did it just once.

I'd also prefer to leave the one-gift-per-cabin vs. one-gift-per-person up to the individuals. Again, I don't like to tell everyone how they have to do it. Sorry, I'm not very "rules" oriented when it comes to something that's supposed to be fun and creative.

But that's just MHO. We can always vote and see what the majority wants.

I killed two printers feeding magnetic paper through - now I print on photo paper (crisp images), cold laminate and then attached magnetic backing.

I like groups of 12 cabins - then if anybody wants to have a bigger group, then can sign up for multiple FE groups. Never seen it done this way before, but it makes a lot of sense, especially in this day of baggage limits.

And I am so much a "this is supposed to be fun" concept with FEs and we're on vacation - no way would I want to be told I have to deliver on certain days. Might not mesh with my relaxation time.

was just having a look at one of the other cruise threads that a woman from work is on, lynne, are you doing the aug 27th cruise too? if so, sounds like you're going to have an awesome trip!

Technically still booked on that sold-out cruise, but in practicality not doing it. Booked my flight into London on Aug 31 to visit my niece in her Law school semester in London program, over to Bath for a weekend, then to DLP before two pre-cruise days in Barcelona. Still going to have an awesome trip, but not a 2-cruise vacation. Still hoping to get another cruise into my schedule to be Platinum Castaway Club before online Remy bookings for the Fantasy M/V in March.

thats the beauty of the FE, you can choose to spend as little or as much as you like. there's no set rules, no set budgets. its good to keep in mind that its just a bit of fun and not to take it too seriously

Thanks ... life is to short to take things like this serious...I'm just soooo excited ... now I have something to start planning.:cool1:

Except that you are not sailing from Port Canaveral!!!;)

I am sure though that you will see some elsewhere.:)

you never know, we might run some over on the way into port canaveral!! :rotfl:
:scared1::scared1::scared1:
Exactly! :thumbsup2 (Of course, if I win the lotto, everyone just might get something from Tiffany's! :rotfl:)
:goodvibes:worship::goodvibes
Oh, don't say that!! Next to flamingos, dolphins are my favorite critters! (Dogs, of course, are people, not animals.)

We've seen dolphins both times leaving Port Canaveral. Dennis is good at spotting them.
Maybe my DH will need to get together with your DH to spot them for him..

i use MS word too, i dont know/possess any other image manipulating software and i've figured out how to use word to do what i want, so i tend to stick with that.

oh and it still seems like an awesome trip!

My husband thinks I'm crazy , but I enjoy making the magnets for the stateroom door. This time I'm going to have both outside & inside covered!

There is a Creative DISign thread on this board with some very talented DISigners. :artist: Some of them have "blanks" available for you to use and personalize, and some will even personalize them for you. I LOVE :lovestruc looking at their designs!!!

my husband thought i was crazy the first time we did the FE, lets just say he was humoring me whenever i talked about it. but he ended up being the first one back to the room each time, patting the FE to see if we'd got anything!
to be honest i dont really care what he thinks about the magnets, they make my door MUCH easier to find!

I agree - the magnets made it so easy to find our room! (Especially after an evening in Rockin' Bar D!) :dance3:

Hello my names Margaret and I will be traveling on the WBTA with my DH Norman ( grumpy1234) , this is our first Disney cruise and we are celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and my birthday.I am now getting excited with only 166 days to go ! Although I have been reading the Dis boards I am a bit of a technophobe, but I just want to say Hi and hope that I (we) can become involved in some of the events taking place. We will be doing the Dolphin tour which I am really looking forward too, thanks so much TotallyAngelic :hippie:

Dennis loves :lovestruc all that stuff! He thinks our door looks cool, and he wanted to go with me on every FE delivery. He also liked checking ours to see what we got. We really are a perfect match :love2: - we're both just overgrown 5-yr-olds with credit cards. ::yes:: :teeth:

WAHOO for the Rockin' Bar D! I'm with you....our door was the easiest to find....I had the WHOLE door covered with magnets! lol The kids loved looking at them. Had a lot of compliments on it too....I had even made a magnet frame that I put the quote of the day on it. Now, the adults loved that and laughed at the quotes. It was a lot of fun to do.

Welcome aboard!! We are Noel and John and this will be our 5th cruise on DCL. Our last cruise was the 2010 WBTA so if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask or PM me. We celebrated our 25th Anniversary last year on this very same cruise.

Please check this first page link of the thread to orient yourself about the cruise, DIS members on the cruise and all the activities planned.

To help you with all the activities that are planned, here is some information to help you decide if you want to participate:

01. If you are interested in participating in the Fish Extender Exchange (FE), please PM Pat (PFlamingo) with the following details:
Send her your stateroom number, Disboard name, first name of each person in the stateroom, realtionship to you (DH, DW, DD, DS, etc) ages and gender of children. You can cut and paste the format below.
Stateroom #:
Disname:

02. If people are interested in being in the same area as other DIS'ers to send Dan (Cliffy97) a PM with Lead Passenger name, your booking number and if you are Early or Late seating. Dan was told by Disney today that this is all they need to put folks together. :-).

03. If you are interested in the Candy Swap, please PM Jacqueline (goofieslonglostsis).

04. If you are interested in Secret Mickey Exchange, please PM Karen (karentan).

05. If you are interest in getting a WBTA lanyard, please PM Noel (birkner). See this lanyard link for example of the previous 2010 WBTA lanyard.

Hopefully, a group of DISers will volunteer to underwrite the lanyards as they did last year so they will be free to the rest of the DISers. We already have several people offering to be part of the lanyard underwriting group. If you wish to join, please send Noel (Birkner) a PM. If we get enough members, the cost should be $10 or less per member.

06. If you are interested in a WBTA lanyard pin, please PM Noel (birkner). See this pin link for example of the previous 2010 WBTA pin.Cost will be approximately 4,5 or 5 Euros per pin.

07. If you are interested in purchasing a WBTA t-shirt printed with a variation of the cruise meet logo, Karen (Pixie_Dust_For_Me) has kindly offered to organise this for our cruise. Price will be approximately $7 per t-shirt, and sizes range from Youth XS (size 2) to Youth XL; Adult S to Adult 4XL.

08. If you are interested in participating in a Mickey Mouse Club night, please check out this Mickey Mouse club post.

09. I am thinking of organizing the same tour I did last year in Madeira. Here is the Madeira link to a PDF file that gives more information about the 2010 tour. If you are interested, please send Noel (birkner) a PM.

10. We are also going to do a Champagne Girls meet. The Champagne Girls event originated on the WBPC cruise in 2008. Women get together dressed in pink to drink champagne or non alcoholic bubbly and chat. Pictures of the first meet are in this post and pictures from the last WBTA are in this post. Please PM (Clare)Pinky166 to add you name to the list.

11. If you would like to join in the Scrapbooking Exchange, please PM Clare (Pinky166) with your name and room number. The idea is to give your fellow exchangers some scrapbooking embellishments for use in your scrapbooks after you return home! For more info check this post.

12 Join us for a Pajama breakfast on September 18 at 10:00 AM at Lumiere's. We will meet outside Lumiere's at 9:50 AM to take group pictures. If you are interested, please PM Mandy (MandyGirl) with the number in your party.
Here is the picture from the PJ breakfast on last years WBTA.
PJparty.jpg

13. Sarah (TotallyAngelic) is organizing a Gibraltar Dolphin Watching Expedition if you are interested in joining. Please PM Sarah with the number in your party if you are interested.

14. Mandy (MandyGirl) is organizing a Tortola Excursion of a private day sail on a power catamaran to Jost VanDyke with Tortola Charters. Please PM Mandy with the number in your party if you are interested.

15. We hope to organize a Stateroom Tour of all the SR categories but we do yet have an organizer. Stay tuned for more details!!

16. If anyone wants to organize a postcard exchange, please feel free to start one. What we did las year is bring a postcard from where we lived and left in each other's FE. It is best to limit the number of participants no more than 25 as cost and weight to bring become an issue.

We can do this anyway we want to. I like the idea of doing gifts for all the cabins, but I also know I've got budget limits, too. I like the multiple groups idea, but I think we need to wait a bit before we decide how many staterooms per group (remember, not everyone is a "family") to see what our total will be.

I'm doing the FE list for our October Dream trip, too. That one already has as many cabins as we have, and lots more people per cabin. I can see that one getting ridiculous pretty quickly. :scared1:

Ten seems a bit small to me, too. We had 12 on our 4-nighter in October, and it did seem like we got lots of gifts (but remember, it was only a 4-nighter). It really was fun - like Santa or your birthday every day! :yay:

I think 20 is a good number, too.

We can do it this way, but I really don't like the idea of imposing too many "rules" on this. I'd rather let people do it when it's convenient for them, rather than assigning days. But that's just MHO. We can always vote and see what the majority wants.

There are 3 adults in our cabin and I *think* right at the moment each of us is planning on dispensing fe gifts - just cause it's fun. MY personal plan is 1 per cabin. I can't be bothered to figure out of cabin x is on 'my' list - I'll just stick one in every fe I see.

Hi all,

Sorry I haven't posted much lately. My husband has a bad back and I've been spending far too much of my time fighting with "so-called" medical professionals of late. Unfortunately, it looks more and more like he is headed to surgery, but we are waiting to get into the same neurosurgeon that did his original back surgery nearly 11 years ago. So, in the meantime, it is pain management, doctor management, work-expectation management, and household management for me. Thank goodness I work as a consultant or else I believe the family would be up a creek without a paddle. I think I've spent more time behind the wheel of my minivan than I have behind my desk of late!

Karen

Holding good throughts for your husband's back - my roommate had to have a second surgery after we came back from Panama Canal - fortunately it was much easier than the first one - may it also be so for him!

Does anyone have the link for the next thread? We really *shouldn't* post beyond 250 pages here.

Karen's got the next thread ready; we'll be there until tomorrow, I imagine, as we usually get chatty on Friday night (Saturday am in Europe) and slow some during the week.

Thinking out loud (after catching up on today's posts!!!) :scared1:
Maybe... some math nerd (Pat).... can figure out where if we do break FE into groups.... each group has approximately the same number of CABINS and PEOPLE participating. So no matter what group you are in... if there are say 12 cabins, but 29 people participating... then each group is in that ballpark. So then it doesn't matter which group you fall into because they are all about the same number of participants either way? Versus one group could have 12 cabins but 48 participants or another group having 12 cabins and 24 participants. :confused3

I actually use MS Word - everyone tells me this is the hard way, but that's what I've got and learned how to manipulate. Wish I could figure out some other program to utilize to do graphics. I'm on a Mac - they're supposed to be easy. :goodvibes

You've got 2 weeks - why not have a week of each?

I killed two printers feeding magnetic paper through - now I print on photo paper (crisp images), cold laminate and then attached magnetic backing.

I like groups of 12 cabins - then if anybody wants to have a bigger group, then can sign up for multiple FE groups. Never seen it done this way before, but it makes a lot of sense, especially in this day of baggage limits.

And I am so much a "this is supposed to be fun" concept with FEs and we're on vacation - no way would I want to be told I have to deliver on certain days. Might not mesh with my relaxation time.

I also like the idea of "opting in" for multiple groups. Logistical challenge for ya Pat!! ;) And the baggage limit thing... should I admit that was part of the bonus of getting our littlest one a seat of her own... that we could then check more bags versus her just being a lapchild?? ;)

I do the same thing, use MS Word & Word Art. Not sure if I have any other programs....even if I did, I wouldn't know how to use them. :rotfl2:

Love the DISign boards! Just made a few tshirts tonight on VistaPrint for half price (with free uploads!), using graphics from DISign boards.

my husband thought i was crazy the first time we did the FE, lets just say he was humoring me whenever i talked about it. but he ended up being the first one back to the room each time, patting the FE to see if we'd got anything!
to be honest i dont really care what he thinks about the magnets, they make my door MUCH easier to find!

I think my hubby thinks I'm crazy too. But I know he will enjoy it, especially when our oldest daughter starts living the Mickey Exchange and FE. And with all the little outfits I keep buying (again... today... grrr.... can't resist...) the Princess Fairy will be visiting our cabin each night with a new "something". I did purchase the magnet paper, and can see how printers can eat it. I've only printed one so far, but now need to go to Kinkos and use a good papercutter to cut it.

WElcome aboard, Margaret and Norman!!! You two are the top of our standby list for the Tortola excursion as we have exactly 50 onboard for that right now.

I think I saw somewhere on another rollcall where the groups would list the cabin and how many in that cabin in parentheses. Then there was a quick printout to mark off the list. Each group was listed entirely, then the next group. Made it easy to read.

Speaking of... need to get one designed! (A FE). I tried to make it to a fabric store today, but both girls fell asleep on me and one complained her legs hurt from all the errands we ran!
