Official Car rental September 2013...advice please

You're not the only one - I'm still over $350.

I do this EVERY year (stress about it) and always manage to get it between $130-$150 for the week, so I'm sure it will drop ... eventually!

Me too! Going 9/1 to 9/8 and still very high ($350+) using every code I can find.

Thank you so much for the MasterCard coupon for Alamo. I just saved $31.xx on my reservation in September. I am picking up at the car care center and dropping it off at FLL 9 days later, so it was up to $393.00! Now it is $360.00. I will continue to watch for even better discounts! But I appreciate the information!

So glad I could help!!!
If you have a visa, you could also try coupon code AD2338FDF. I'm guessing it will give you the same rate, but you may want to check.

For those of you renting at the end of the month, I think it's just too early for your rates to drop.
My rental is sep 6-15 and it just dropped mid-week last week.
So be patient.

For those renting early in the month who can't get the rates down, I can only guess it has to do with your particular dates or number of days.
My rental is 9 days, but when I played with the dates and took just 1 day off, the rate went through the roof!
As of yesterday, mine went from $161 to $430.
Thank goodness I booked when it was down!!

My advice is to check constantly.
If I had been just a little later checking yesterday, I would have missed the final drop on mine before it shot back up.
I am still hoping for a lower rate before I leave, but if not, I can definitely live with what I have.

Good luck to everyone!

I think we're to early for end of September. I'm looking for September 25 to October 5. So far, nothing good.

My dates are Sept 26-Oct 2. I booked National using the KLM code. I need a mid SUV. Got $248. I hope to get lower, but the only other one that was "close" was Budget, using Costco (I am a member) for $303. Oh, and Dollar was $259 using 5CO6M, their SUV special rate code (and maybe for minivans? I forget, it's on their site).

With the SUVs, you have less options to wait. But I will rebook if I see anything better of course. I like National, picking my own car, etc. (or Alamo)

I wonder if the rates jumped before you checked for your dates/times.

Nope, they went up about a week after I booked...several months ago. They have yet to go back down. They have consistently been hovering right around that $220 mark! I'll keep checking. Since I'm picking up on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend, in W Palm Beach and dropping it off at the Dolphin the following Wednesday, I'm almost willing to pay for the convenience since we'll be at BWV.

Oh, you're doing a one way rental.
That explains a lot.
I was looking at one ways earlier, before the Mco-Mco finally dropped.
I was able to get fairly decent rates picking up on Irlo and dropping at Mco.
But anything on property jacked the price up.

That price really isn't that bad for a nine day one way rental.
If you are willing to be shuttled back to your hotel, try pricing some of the places on Irlo for your drop off.
I was getting the best rate from Budget at 5770 W Irlo.

Edit
I think I misread your dates. I realized you said return was the following Wednesday, so only a three day rental???
That price is steep!!!
I would still try the Irlo locations for return if that is an option for you.

My rates remain unchanged....
Aug 31 (2:30) to Sept 14 (4:30)
Alamo (we prefer Alamo or National)
Standard Size (full size) = $277.70
7 passenger minivin = $687.52
These were both booked with Alamo insiders id with VISA coupon AD2338FDF.

We prefer to have the minivan, but right now, just can't justify that high of a cost! Would love to see it come down!!!! pixiedust:

Me too. I am going Sept 11-18 and I got $330/week through my Alamo Insiders.

:scared1:Earlier this week I got a standard (full size) for nine days, Sept 14th-22nd, 12N-5:00pm for $174.66 total using my Alamo Insiders, Costco ID 7014627, and Visa coupon AD2338FDF.

I just checked though and that same car for the exact same time is now $383.42. YIKES!

I did the Budget/Costco codes and got economy car for that week for $129 Canadian (I'm in Ontario). :cool1:

Gonna keep watching though.

Renting FROM MCO, returning TO TPA. Hard to find deals doing that. Ugh.

I'm renting at W Palm Beach Intl on Sept 1 and returning the car to the Dolphin (as of right now) on Sept 4. I've tried to lower the rate by renting and returning at MCO..it only lowered the rate by about $4!!!
I'll keep looking. Really don't want to fly into MCO since we're going to Vero Beach first. W Palm really works for us....so it is what it is. And with us heading to BWV after VB, returning to the Dolphin makes a lot of sense.

I was able to get a price of $144.40 at Budget for 8/31-9/7 for an intermdediate size car. Do you think this is as low as it will go or should I wait a little longer?

Have you checked Alamo? I was able to get 139 for 8/31-9/8 using $30 off coupon and logging into my insider account.

I just came across a good rate from Budget for 9/10, picking up at 2pm and then dropping off on 9/15 at 4:30pm.

If I'm willing to pay for the intermediate car now when I reserve it, the rate is 115.50.

Now I'm wondering if I should just go for it and quit looking around for a lower rate since it's well within my budgeted amount for a car rental.

As long as it isn't a prepaid rate, you are not out anything to go ahead and book it.
If you find a lower rate later, simply cancel this reservation after you book the new one.

This is from my Costco coupon booklet that came in the mail today....so if anyone is interested here it is:
