Pop Century Room Renovations

Based on the progress to date, do you all think we will have a good chance to request and receive a refurbished room when we check in on November 24?

I keep trying to logic this out with what little we know so far. If it takes 3 months per building (this started in early March and reportedly no new rooms open till June), and they overlap a month between buildings (report here that they started closing/gutting Bldg 9 in early May while still working on Bldg 8)...

I'm speculating on one new building opening every 2 months starting in June. Which would mean:
Bldg 8 (90s) open early June.
Bldg 9 (80s) open early August
7 - Oct
10 - Dec
6 - Feb
and so on. This puts them past the supposed May 2018 completion, but I don't see how they make that without speeding up BIG time.

This is just my uneducated guessing. Best case scenario, maybe 1 70s bldg done in Nov with the 80s/90s.

My guess is that yes you could probably request and receive a refurbished room by then but I wouldn't count on it. Refurbishments began almost 3 months ago and to date those rooms are still in process of being refurbished. We anticipate the first ones being put back into circulation soon....we hope!!

Question?!? I have a 6yr old boy that loves to run/jump around the room. Are the floors thick enough to where you cant hear if you are staying in the room below? Or should I just try to request a ground floor room??

You have nothing to worry about.

I was reading on one thread of someone just returned from a resort with new rooms without the carpet, YC? I can't remember, but they found it really loud. Could hear the people above them and next door. They said the sound really carries now without the carpet to muffle things.
I haven't stayed in new rooms without carpet yet but am worried about them.

I just read the same thread! The new flooring kinda worries me a bit. I can see why it would be noisier than before. With the new flooring you'll get more echoing when people talk. As well as foot steps. Great...so on top of the door slamming and toilet flushing, we can add the echo's and stomping to the list too. I'll have to bring a fan or white noise machine with me (I dont like the white noise apps)...and ear plugs!

I'm requesting top floor! And hope for considerate neighbours. 9 times out of 10 people are considerate but once had the neighbours from hell at POR. Let their kids run & scream, slam doors continually to run outside (we had ground floor) and didn't understand inside voices. For once I was happy it was my last day when they moved in.

Yes top floor would work, kinda. You should also pray for decent considerate next door neighbours too. Esp the connecting room. You can hear everything!

If I had a neighbor from hell like you did, i'd probably ask to move if possible. I know it can happen anywhere, but i'd rather take a chance and move. Sorry you went through that.

Looking for free dining or the room discount for POP 9/27-10/3. Already have an existing reservation with no code. If you are cancelling or moving to another hotel, freeing up either code, please let me know! Thanks!

I hope so; We arrive on November 25.

I apologize for going off topic, but quick question. My 180 is tomorrow. You mind checking to see if there is a Nov 26 Chef Mickey's around 11 (DD must do)? Don't want to waste time on that if not.

Can't wait for our first Pop trip. Never stayed in a new hotel room, hope we get lucky.

I'm not sure how many are in your party, but I just looked for a party of 4 at CM and they had one for 11:30.

Sorry I just saw this but I did check and yes the 11:30 for 4 that someone else saw is still available. Good luck with all your ADR's

I would have moved if it wasn't my last day.

I didn't read the thread, but I highly doubt it was loud because of the new flooring. My wife is a property manager for a large high rise apartment building and they just went through the decision process of new floors. I've seen/read multiple sound studies she brought home during that process on carpet vs vinyl flooring. All the results show very minimal or nonexistent differences. Now if they were putting in a laminate or hardwood, that'd be a different story. But the vinyl floors WDW is using, if installed properly, are not louder than carpet.

Got it. Makes sense. ;)

Good to know! Thanks for the info. :) That's a bit reassuring.

Funny story about our neighbours from hell. Our first stay at POP which was about 11 years ago we had a room with the connecting door. The people next door where constantly arguing with their kids(as in every minute they were in the room). Both kids and adults yelling. They would slam doors and also the dresser drawers and that took us a while to figure out what the noise was. They would arrive back to the room after 10pm and then get up in the morning before 6am. This went on for several days. Well, one morning it was just after 5am and they started yelling and banging. My DH got up to use the washroom and accidentally tripped on the carpet and ended up slamming his hand against that connecting door. The noise instantly stopped and we never heard the neighbours again.

Still to this day we laugh about it because if we had known it was as easy as banging back we would have done it and not suffered through very little sleep and noise for the better part of a week.

During one stay at Pop we had a connecting door with friends from home. (Totally a fluke that our rooms connected. We arrived on different days and didn't have our reservations linked as we both just happened to be there at the same time.)

Anyway, they left a day before us and new people moved in who were NOISY!!! It was a family and I'm sure they were just excited to be there but at 2am the party needed to stop. I opened our side of the connecting door and knocked on theirs then closed my door. I know it could have gone either way but thankfully that was the last we heard from them. Sometimes people just don't think until they're reminded that they're sharing common space.
