Where will your first post-Covid vacation be?

I've heard others call Niagra tacky. It is really that "touristy" and kind of Vegas-y? Lol. We're not city people at all, and we have never done a "city" vacation before. So....there is the worry of spending all that money and not enjoying the experience. I mean we enjoy museums, aquariums, science centers etc... but normally the ones we go to are in small cities.
Yes there's wax museums and stuff like that! The falls themselves are awesome though if you skip the rest of that stuff! I grew up going to the New York side and I really prefer that side because it's all owned by New York State Parks , even though obviously the view is not quite as good from there.

If I take my family to Quebec there'll be mutiny. I have two dead set against all things French. 🤦 Don't ask why, because I honestly don't know.
That's too bad because Quebec City is amazing! It reminded me so much of Europe! My DH and I went there for a long weekend for our 10 year anniversary and I loved it!! And most everyone there spoke English if that's the issue - I think I used my rusty French one!

Family cottage or camping this summer ( maybe both ) . My sister lives in Tampa and is having her first baby in July . When this all started I was hoping we would still be able to go visit right away. Now I just hope she won‘t have to deliver without her husband there . We will try to go in the Fall I think. Maybe a few days in Tampa and a few days in Orlando. We will see.
You would think all of this would make me want to travel less but it’s the opposite. As soon as it’s safe I want to go all kinds of places as the budget allows. I can’t wait to get back to points collecting.

The main street around the falls (Clifton Hill) is super busy, lots of wax museums and is expensive. I kind of only venture there once every 10 years or so! But, the falls themselves are beautiful and are fun to walk around. The parks in the area are nice too and there are a lot of great Bed and Breakfasts and also Niagara on the Lake is very nice town and has a lot of great wine tasting tours. Plus, there are some great things to do in Niagara (Bird Kingdom, there is a Niagara Safari too, Butterfly Conservatory, Maid of the Mist, a tour of Laura Secord's house) as well as for kids, some great indoor water parks (Great Wolf Lodge is one that is fabulous for kids). So, you could easily spend several days there with your family and only go near the mega busy main street once.

I was always wondering what the difference was between the sides, other than I knew the Canadian side is bigger?

Yes, I would enjoy QC. I've travelled in Quebec some when I was growing up, in that region, Ste Anne, up through the Gaspe etc... very beautiful. 'Course my ideal would be to visit the area in the winter so I can get some skiing in 😁

I think it's a case of wanting what you can't have 😆

Does anyone think that they might allow travel within your own province even if they don't open the border back up? I'm starting to wonder if I should make back-up camping reservations in Ontario in case we can't cross the border but my DH thinks if the border is still closed then we still won't be allowed to travel recreationally within the province.

Tough question, but my opinion is that we will lift restrictions on provincial movement long before the borders open back up. It is a whole different ball game over there right now and their rate of infection, spread, and overall trajectory for this virus is looking much different than ours. This is all just speculation but I can’t see the borders open before end of summer.

Currently, legally, we still are allowed to drive/travel recreationally in NB, as long as we're social distancing while doing so. So, my guess is yes, eventually even if the US border remains closed, eventually the campgrounds, parks, beaches etc... will open back up.

I’m finding answers on this thread surprising. I am really surprised how many people are still planning summer vacations for this year. To me, those aren’t “post-COVID vacations,” like the OP asked, they’re “mid-COVID vacations.” Everything I’ve heard says this is here to stay for a while, and I think the safe thing to do this summer is going to be staying home.

I’m not trying to stir the pot. Some days my house feels small, and all I can think about is our next adventures, near or far. But I think leisure travel is going to stay locked down for a good few months still, and since the best thing we can all do to save lives is stay home, that’s not a bad thing.

I have zero intention of doing anything that would be a detriment to our current situation and will continue to follow guidelines from our government to the letter, as I have been. However the thought of being able to travel, see things, meet my new nephew are some of the only things keeping balanced right now.
However long it takes .. that’s where you will find me. But the second it’s safe and responsible again, I will resume my life . That’s all I was saying.

Well we have an all paid for trip to Disney already (am tickets, credit for Wyndham Bonnet Creek and Southwest Airlines) - so hopefully we'll get there before the end of this year. But, maybe next year we'd use the airline credit and go somewhere else less crowded where we can do more outdoor activities like hiking, etc and wait on Disney until it's safer.

But for now we will be sticking within the province and hopefully be able to camp at provincial parks and golf. If those don't open up, then at least we can do day hiking and fishing trips to get out.

The plan here originally was: 10 days in New Hampshire this summer, and then originally, we were going to do a Disney vacation next year, since DH promised DD he would go back with her for a trip (long story). But, with the dollar being bad, and Disney prices continuing to soar, by the time I priced it out, a week in a value resort with a discount, with only 3 day tickets, meals, travel etc... was going to be $6000 (!!!), and I just really didn't want to spend that much money on Disney. So then we said, well maybe we'll do a "Southern" vacation, go to Hilton Head Island for a 4-5 nights and then spend 2-3 nights at Disney and use our one day comp tickets, which would be about half the cost.

And now here we sit, with our summer vacation cancelled, in our third week of not leaving our tiny house except for a daily walk to get some fresh air/exercise, getting emails from stupid Frontier of $22 round trip flights anywhere in the US, and I find myself dreaming of travelling... I figure I might as well direct this building energy into planning a kick-butt 2021 summer vacation, LOL. And I have no idea where I want to go! One thing this has shown us - the future is very uncertain, we just never know, and... why put things that you really want to do off for "someday" when someday may not come, or could be ripped away?

So a part of me wants to say heck with it and plan the Disney trip and be darned the cost. Another part of me is thinking of all those other places we've wanted to go and have just said "maybe someday" to like a week in Hawaii, a summer driving across Canada etc... I do know I really want to give the children the experiences on their bucket list which include: swimming with dolphins (DD) and visiting an amazing aviary where you can hold/feed birds (DS).

Assuming the situation has stabilized, I think next summer will be a good year to travel because the industry will be reeling from the wash out year this is going to be, and there'll likely be significant travel discounts/incentives. So it seems like a prime time to take that dream vacation.

So... where will you go post-Covid?
Where is New Hampshire? We are thinking of going to Loon mountain area for a long weekend and going to see the Ice Castles. Have you been to the Ice Castles?

I hope you get to meet your nephew as soon as possible. I can imagine how difficult it would be to not visit as soon as possible after birth.

I'd like to do a cruise, but if that doesn't work out it will probably be an all inclusive, somewhere warm and sunny in the middle of a Canadian winter... that's the goal! I do want to return to Disney but we have been doing trips every two years and while that is 2021, I am thinking we may wait until 2022, unless there are some good deals. And we want to go to Universal & SeaWorld at the same time as Disney. I do find half the fun is planning the trips.
We had a cruise booked July 20. It was a new ship that was getting done in Spain. Needless to say they cancelled out vacation we booked last year! So now we are rebooked for a cruise for next July. I'm excited but now thinking of where to go for this summer.

We had been talking about going back to Maine and Acadia National Park, as it's been a few years for us and that's one of our favorite places to visit. (also non flying, since we're in CT) I suspect we'll most likely be doing that in September.

Still hoping to make it out to Disneyland in October, a few friends were talking about that before all this craziness. That may be my only Disney trip this year since my April trip to WDW was cancelled.
We are CT too. You like Acadia? Trying to find a nice weekend winter vacation with the kids or maybe just a fall weekend getaway me and my husband only. Not sure which one yet.

The virus isn't here for 'a while'. It's here forever! Eventually life will have to (slowly) return to normal, whatever that normal looks like. It will still be circulating this summer, but should be better under control by then. The only ways out of this are to find a cure (stop the virus), find a vaccine (prevent the virus), or slowly build herd immunity (accept the virus into the milieu of human disease). The intent of social distancing is to slow the curve of infection as immunity builds so that our systems aren't overwhelmed. By summer we should be on the back side of the curve, and opening up contact would be advisable to start to increase that immunity. Just like the common cold, ALL of us will probably contract this one at some point in the future. I'm not looking forward to it, I don't like being sick, but I expect it will happen at some point. I fully intend to enjoy life to fullest extent possible while following the current advice from the authorities.

This is all just speculation but I can’t see the borders open before end of summer.
I know it's just your opinion but even thinking about this makes me want to cry! All of my family is across the border in Michigan and we're super close. It's already been about 2 months since I've seen them and the thought of going many more months without seeing them is just awful. I would give up every vacation I have booked just to be able to hang out with them! :(
