Flight/Customs questions. Ok, need someone to explain it to me like I'm five! First time flying to Canada/International. You guys are all pros at this. I should have Global Entry before my first trip (appointment in Feb for interview).

first trip - Flying Columbus - Chicago - Calgary. I assume I go through customs in Calgary after landing. Nothing to do in Chicago. (Right?)
Return trip the opposite Calgary - Chicago - Columbus. I think I go through customs in Calgary before boarding. Nothing to do in Chicago or Columbus (right?)
Do I have that right? Also, what is the recommended time to get to the airport? Columbus I think I can get by with 1-2 hours, whatever the cut off is for checked bags. Calgary, is the 3 hours recommended good?

Second flight - Flying Columbus - Toronto - Halifax. Do I go through Customs in Toronto or Halifax? Do I have to get my bags in Toronto and then recheck?
Return is the opposite - Halifax - Toronto - Columbus. Where do I go through Customs?
Depending on the answer, I may have to change my flights as I don't have a long layover in Toronto in either direction, 1-1.5 hours.

Thanks!

First trip, you should go through customs in Calgary. I'd say 2.5 hours before the flight should be fine.

Second trip, you should clear customs in Halifax; I believe in Toronto you will disembark and walk to your new gate, but I am not 100% certain. Departing you should clear customs in Halifax after security. Dd and I were at the Halifax airport yesterday and there were no US departing flights near our gates and I did see a separate area for passengers heading to the US. Luggage should clear through to your final destination as long you're traveling on the same ticket for all legs.

Does an infant with his own seat need global entry for an international flight? Will he slow us down? Lol

The infant will need Global Entry if his/her parents both go through Global Entry-there is no "family" or "age" waiver. (Border Patrol is not Southwest!) If baby does not have Global Entry, than one of the parents will have to go through the regular immigration line,

That's what I thought. I'm going to have to get him an appointment. He's not even 1 yet. Lol.

Stealing this idea from you, Publix bogo is how we do most of our shopping.

Question about the Instacart, we have been leaving this on the table for some time and are just now trying to use it. So DH went into his CSR and registered for the Instacrt plus that comes with the CSR. He placed one order using the CSR. He's now trying to order under our Freedoms and other cards that have this benefit but the Instacart isn't letting him select the other cards, only the CSR. Does he need to "register" each card? Or should he be able to add the other cards in his Instacart account and then be able to select them when placing the order?

When logged into DH's Instacart account, use this Instacart link to register each eligible Chase card. That will also extend the free Instacart+ membership.

Looking for advice for a first-timer to Royal Caribbean from people who've cruised on RC. I did check out the DIS RC forum, and learned a little, but this is my main stomping ground so I thought I'd ask here. Is there anything special I should know about RC? The last (and only) cruise I've done was the Disney Magic in the Caribbean over 10 years ago. After saying I wasn't planning on going on a cruise, now I'm looking at an Alaska cruise on RC, mostly because of the Amex offers lol.

I've gotten quotes off of cruisecompete with varying OBC offers, and am ready to put down a deposit. Is the non-refundable $750 deposit truly lost money or can it be re-applied to another cruise if we decide to make changes? I do plan on buying trip insurance with cancel for any reason clause.

Any recommended excursions at these ports?
  • Sitka
  • Juneau
  • Icy Strait Point
We were on Ovation in June. Seatle was not my favorite port, but I enjoyed Ovation. I can't wait to get back to Alaska! If you were to cancel your cruise without a rebooking, you would loose your deposit with a nonrefundable. If you choose a different ship or sail date, it would be $100 change fee per person. From what I understand, you can change cabin category upgrade or even down (I think) on the same ship and sail date without a fee.

Sitka - You have to take a free shuttle to get to town from the port (land shuttle - not a tender). It wasn't a long trip at all. We walked over to Totem Park and took the trail. Then, we returned to town and stopped by the Bishop's House on our way. We walked to the top of the hill - Baranof Castle. After that, we enjoyed wonderful shops. Many had items made in Alaska instead of the touristy junk. I don't mind touristy junk, but authentic items are really special. It was an economical and wonderful stop. No expensive excursion was necessary.

Juneau - We went on a seaplane to look at the glaciers and ice fields. It was fantastic and something I will never forget. It was also pricy, but I got a good deal on a Black Friday sale. After the flight, we walked around town. Next time, I will go to the Mendenhall glacier.

For me, cruises are as much about the ships as they are about the ports of call. As much as I loved Ovation, I would probably choose a smaller ship next time and make the trip more about Alaska. I plan to leave from Vancouver next time - whenever next time may be. The smaller ships can spend more time in the inside passage.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask away. You could PM me if you don't want to go off topic here. I could Disney Talk or Cruise Talk all day!

Another one here who hasn't been using her Instacart benefits. I have the CSP, CFF and CFU. I just registered all 3 cards so I should have $35 per quarter. Do I need to make 3 separate orders using each card?

I also have three cards and have not figured out a way to use them all together on one order. I would love for someone to tell me I've been doing it wrong, but I have been doing separate orders.

Question for those who order the xbox giftcards for the Dell Amex credit... I purchased a giftcard for my nephew for Christmas and opened it in the Dell Digital Locker. What number do I need to give him to add it to his account? Is it the License Key that's a combination of 25 letters and numbers? And does he need any other info besides that?
Also, is there any good way to liquidate xbox giftcards? I have trouble using my Dell credits and have purchased about everything from Dell that we would be interested in so looking for other ways to use it.

Yes, the key is what you need to give him.
And I've heard they aren't easily liquidated.

P2 applied for a Freedom Flex and got a message that it requires confirmation that she applies (likely due to an earlier fraud alert applied to her credit file). The number provided was an automated line and ultimately said she will receive a written letter in 7-10 business days.

I know she should be able to get an instant approval, is there another contact number that should be used to expedite the process? Thanks

For those who have applied for TSA Precheck and did not already have fingerprints on file somewhere (like for your work or anything)- do you recall how long it took your application to be approved?

I used the credit on the Venture X for my husband's appointment the Monday after Thanksgiving and we were just wondering about how long we should expect to wait to hear anything back. (Mine was super fast but I think it's because I've been recently fingerprinted for work and the local school district).

Thank you!
I filled out the form online. I’ve been fingerprinted (teacher) but they just did it there and I was approved in a couple days
