Disney+ and Satan

Don't give Disney any ideas. LOL.

At least Disney wasn't dumb enough to release this here in the US. That should tell everyone something about their motives and what they really care about. Spoiler alert. It'syay Oneymay. But that is their #1 priority. You see it in everything they do. And I guess that is their obligation to shareholders. But this is definitely not Walt's Disney. Maybe they should drop his first name from the company.
Maybe they should go back to terrible depictions of non-white people. Maybe they should go back to princesses only being damsels in distress. Maybe they should should attempt to union bust if the workers don't like their wages or conditions. Maybe they should accuse union leaders of being communists before Congress. I mean, that was Walt's Disney. He was a complex man that you can't easy fit into a box. But Walt's Disney wasn't a panacea. People have got to stop holding onto the past and that includes the Disney corporation.

Yeah, a teenage girl falling in love with Satan, having sex with him, and getting pregnant is so much better than all of that.

The new TV show is FICTION. The racist depictions and union busting were REAL. Can you not tell the difference???

Any statement that claims to know what Walt would have wanted can safely be disregarded. Walt was a genius, but he was totally unpredictable--if you talked to the people that knew him best the most consistent theme is that no one knew how he would react.
Walt was, above all else, an opportunist who made a lot of money. I think he was an ok person, but he was obsessed with his work and its success.

Meh. Still not as scary as Mother Gothel.

Satan is completely fictional. Abusive parents are, sadly, real.

It's not an either/or proposition. There's tons of content that Walt would never have approved and all of us would be a lot worse off had that happened. He was a product of his times and that time has long passed.

And this all over a show that I doubt most people will even end up watching. I can't think of the last German created show/film I ended up tuning in for since Run Lola Run or The Lives of Others. You don't have to personally approve of everything on Disney+. You can either choose to watch it or not.

Satan is a fantasy and this being a European production means that this is a problem being created by folks in certain segments of our media. I heard Seb Gorka discussing this recently and sadly he's no fantasy being but I kinda wish he was. He has excellent taste in films though so right on to that! Either way, I sure hope this teen and spawn live happily ever after. I'm pretty sure this program will premiere during 'Satan Pride Week', one would think it has to, correct?

Does your glowing vision of "what Walt had in mind" include the "wholesome" cartoons he produced during WWII, including one that depicted an ugly racist stereotype of Japanese people?

I was waiting for this. I've already seen this. Not exactly a comparison as Walt was Anti communist. Adding that these cartoons were banned.
Just to ask then, in 1940 Disney made Fantasia which features a segment where a devil named Chernabog resurrects souls and casts them into a volcano to summon demons. While Chernabog is not technically Satan, the symbolism is clear as are the religious overtones. Why no hand-wringing about that?
If I have to explain the differences in Disney Villians and a TV series where a young girl sleeps with Satan its already too late.

I do love Disney for what it has changed into because society evolved. Without the evolution of society this is the man who was in charge of a company during a dark time in the world. So let’s not pretend Walt wasn’t a man without fault and Disney wasn’t a company without fault.

Lifetime and Hallmark movies
DW refers to Lifetime as "Movies written by men that men think women want to watch."

Hallmark, on the other hand, is like a warm comforting embrace. You know where it's going, there are no surprises, and Good Things happen in the end. It is one of my not-even-guilty pleasures, though its another thing that DW does not understand about me.

And, to relate back to the scaremonger-gatekeeping-moralizing tone of this thread, the idea that Hallmark was "too woke for some people" was enough to get a former Hallmark CEO to start a competing "family-friendly" channel. You can't make this stuff up. Some folks think Hallmark is culturally cutting-edge! Seriously!

It’s almost as bad as Adam and Eve having incest with their children.

In fact Disney should do movies taken from the Bible only changing the names so we can see all the “pure” people’s heads explode for the deprived storylines.

Well they did add interracial couples and god forbid same sex relationships

The horror.

I refuse to buy cards

I don't mind the feel-good Hallmark messages; they're just too earnestly sweet for me. Same reason I can't stand Ted Lasso!

My friend from HS, who became a Catholic priest, changed Lifetime's tagline to "Television for Women...and Priests!" I guess the older ones like them.

Well, I mean, I am pretty sure that Satan will also be the villain of that show so....

Have you seen Dark? Fabulous German tv show! Gotta watch it in German with subtitles - the dubs are absolutely criminal.

Huh?? What does Walt being "anti-communist" have to do with him authorizing his artists to draw racist stereotypes of Asians?

In your original post you describe an aspect of the show as being a young girl who falls in love with her one night stand who turns out to be Satan. She didn't intentionally set out to sleep with Satan as the quoted comment makes it seem.
I think it would've been a great way to show just how deceptive and underhanded he can be. After all, aren't the scariest villians the ones that don't stand out in a crowd? Who could be anyone and look just like everyone else? I think that's an interesting lesson to teach; that the nicest people sometimes hide the evilest minds.
Maybe not geared towards little kids but not everything animated is or have we all forgotten about the fiasco surrounding Sausage Party?
