Eat to the Beat Concert Series -------- Who are these bands?

Trust me---I know and respect these bands that have withstood the test of time. Without this concert series I'm sure it's the casino lounge act circuit.

Last time I went, it was 38 Special. I was talking to a woman next to me and I made a comment to the tune of "I mean, who has even THOUGHT about 38 Special in the past 20 years?"
Well, this woman could have been the president of the 38 Special fan club. She looked at me like I had 2 heads, pronounced her love and adoration for them and that she sees them every time they play and wouldn't miss them for the world. I learned my lesson :worship:

It's a free concert inside a theme park, just who do you think is going to play, U2?

I think for a free concert it's pretty decent all in all. I mean, what do you want?

Exactly. Plus, you have to consider the venue. I can't find an official capacity, but I'd guess it's between 1,000 and 1,200 seats. Disney can't book acts that will bring in thousands of fans without causing some level of chaos. They have to walk a fine line here.

hahaha, Air Supply was one of the first concerts I ever went to 40+ years ago. :rockband: I actually wouldn't mind seeing them again. That does make me old.

I'm 33 and barely know any of them... but then my music knowledge is pretty awful. My husband would probably know them all, he's that person that seems to be able to recognise any song from just a line or two regardless of genre.

I do know who Postmodern Jukebox are because I've seen quite a few videos of theirs on YouTube when he's been listening to them. And if I googled the bands and songs I'd probably recognise more than I think I do.

Either way I didn't know Eat to the Beat was a thing, something else to look forward to when we go at F&W in 2019!

JMHO our time there is a wasteland 9/30 - 10/5. I get that the 3 bands scheduled are attempting to reach varied audiences, just not a fan of any of those genres. Ah well, more time to stroll about, it's all good, can't wait.

Looking @ the schedule/dates, seems to be a correlation with more multi-generational popular bands being booked when they need the firepower to draw crowds. :confused3

We just re booked our entire trip because 3 bands that we like are playing in the same week. I am 40, DH is 45, and I think it was a great group of bands. My husband is a HUGE sugar ray fan, he grew up listening to air supply and I am a David cook fan. I have to admit there was maybe 5-7 that I've never heard of. But overall I thought a few generations were covered , so a good variety.

I'm the same age as the OP, and I don't think most of the acts are too obscure. I recognize many of the songs the Disney lists, if not the band's name.

That said, it's an eclectic mix. Disney obviously tries to book acts with as broad appeal as possible. It can't be easy, and I commend them for coming up with such an interesting roster.

P.S. I wish Taylor Dayne were playing during my trip. I was kinda bummed when I found out she would be the act for my 50th birthday celebration, but she was fantastic! If anyone reading this is there when she is playing, go see her. You'll be dazzled by how great her show is.

Thanks for the heads up! Taylor Dayne is at the start of my trip!

I'm trying to get myself psyched for Air Supply too. I just can't for David Cook. LOL!

You're there the same time we are. My original plans had us at Epcot when Sister Hazel was there (never heard of them), so I rearranged plans so we could see Air Supply, one of DH's faves. I could take or leave them. Would love to see David Cook, too, as he's a hometown hero here (Kansas City)!

We got Kenny G'd.

That statement made me literally LOL. Air Supply is likely to put me to sleep, but DH will be happy, so... :)

This is such an interesting thread to read! I'm 26 and I thought it was a pretty great lineup while my husband had a look of  on his face. Although that's not super uncommon when it comes to him and music. I was SO excited to see the Hooters on there! They're a great Philly band. Give them a listen if you'll be there when they play!

I WISH I could go see Delta Rae! If you don't know them, watch "Long and Happy Life", "Wrong Ocean", "No Peace in Quiet", "I Went South", or "No Dry Eye in the Chapel" on youtube.com. They are amazing!!! Their live shows are incredible, and I would sit and watch all 3 shows of theirs at Epcot if I lived closer. Please see this band and let me live vicariously through you!!!

I had no idea who they were last year and after seeing them I was very impressed,They're very different for sure and I still don't remember the songs they performed but they were one of the highlights of last years concerts, just very unique and unexpected. There's a handful of groups I have very little desire to see(the hooters and Squeeze, their known songs are meh!!,Mark Wills ???,Lauren Alaina, saw her on Idol but as far as I know she's done nothing),but we still have all the popular regulars on the lineup and a few of the other new groups have my interest peaked. Its a good lineup because its the most groups to ever play the festival and with that comes some excellent groups with some stinkers thrown in.

I'm 44 and thought it was a good mix also.
My wife is also 44 and our sister in law is going, she is 43.
We're doing Epcot at least 2 nights.

On the other hand, we are heading to Virginia Beach over Labor Day. A music festival is there stating it is the largest east coast music festival of the year. We are taking our 18 and 20 year old kids along. The lineup was released and I had only ever heard of 2-3 mainstage groups, one of the kids had heard of one, the other, none. The only artist I would even be interested in over 3 nights is Night Ranger, on a side stage. Looking at the lineup on youtube, looks like mainstage bands are pop groups from the early 2000's.

Oh I hope 10,000 Maniacs and Blue October come back next year! I would love to catch them when we go

OP, I'm 44 and there are 4 or 5 I don't recognize

I am still bitter I always seem to get there either a week before Hanson or a week after. I KEEP MISSING THEM.

I'm just so glad I will totally miss Starship this time around. It seems like they have always played when I've been there in previous years. I have a quick trip the end of September - beginning of October so I'm thrilled I get to see 38 Special this time. Most of the Acts playing during my November trip are the same ones that are always there around that time. I did an internship @ a local radio station when I was in College. One of the days I was there a couple of guys from the somewhat new group called Squeeze was visiting. I had no idea at the time who the heck they were. There are 5 on the list I've never heard of but a couple I recognize the names of the songs listed for them. Some I've heard of but don't know their music. A few I am so glad won't be there when I am like Kenny G and the already mentioned Starship.

I actually think that Kenny G is good. But he's way too mellow for a theme park and most other things too.

I'd like to see Blue October and Voodoo Daddy if I was there. I used to like Sugar Ray too.

I am pushing 60 and I have heard of many of the bands. It helps that I have kids with a 14 year age span, so that was many years of listening to what was popular at the time! I was excited to see .38 special was going to be there for my birthday trip, only to be sad now that we have to cancel our trip. DH wasn't pleased 2 years ago when I wanted to see Wilson Phillips. He is still talking about how much he enjoyed them, so you never know who you will like.
