GRAND OPENING - GRAND CLOSING (Florida)

The only reason I can see us closing the state down again is if ICU capacity is close to being reached. Especially since the RNC is having their convention in Jacksonville now.

People seem to forget that Florida is a BIG state with LOTS of rural areas. My area has had less than 100 confirmed cases whereas Miami has had way more. So should the governor close down the rural areas even though our numbers are stagnant? Um no. South Florida is still on more restrictions than us.

People also said I was crazy for thinking school would open in the fall but the current plan says yes you will be in a classroom this August.

Your choice of words, "closing down the state again" is inflammatory. I am hoping that many communities can continue to open with caution keeping in mind regional differences.

What is happening now in Florida is a spike in hospitalizations right when the science is indicating a decrease in transmissiveness. If this is a seasonal decrease, then I shudder to think what will happen in the Fall when schools are in full swing.

Now I have no idea exactly what her job specifics were but “loading data” it’s not as simplified as it sounds when it comes to loading dashboards. Most complex dashboards utilize integrated data models and are automatically updated. We have an entire team of people at our company that deals with raw data, cleaning data, SQLing diffferebt data definitions to basically maintain the data and make sure it’s “clean” enough to upload it to a dashboard.

Though looking all the Covid dashboards out there It doesn’t look like the data behind it rocket science.

So much for the theory that the virus cant survive warm weather
When comparing to the common flu m, where weather does make a real difference is the fact that once it’s cold outside people stay indoors more. That is where the transmission is more common. And that there are less windows open that increase air circulation.

I fear in the fall numbers will skyrocket not because of the virus not being killed by “heat” but the fact that all the activities that most people are doing outside not will not be possible

And people are actually thinking about going to a theme or movie theater. I'm not expecting Disney or US to remain open much longer.

I pray for you Floridians everyday. :sad2:
I live in AZ, another place where the cases are increasing daily. However what the media fails to mention is the number of tests being performed has substantially increased. The virus is not exponentially increasing in AZ, nor in FL.

Also, the purpose of the lock down was to prevent the hospitals from being overwhelmed, not to prevent people from contracting the virus. In AZ the hospitals are not overwhelmed.

The media has done a huge disservice by employing their hyperbole to every news story. I never see a story about the number of people who have recovered from COVID -19.

I think this is the safest time to visit a theme park or movie theatre, since the managers are being vigilant with their cleaning, social distancing, and mask enforcement.

The US cannot afford to shut down again, since poverty is a bigger threat than the virus.

Definitely! The rhetoric has seemed to change for many people from "flattening the curve" to "not till there is a vaccine."

The reality is everyone needs to make the best decisions for their own individual family. You do you. I do me.

DeSanits has said that if restrictions need to be imposed again then he will impose them.

Some of these posts are hilarious , and just echoing what the news tells you is just as dangerous . I'm really sick of the fear porn people have been spreading

I posted in another thread charts about how while cases have gone up, hospitalizations have been steady with a slight decrease.

If you looks at the rolling 7 day average, on Saturday, the percent of positive tests had only gone up .5%. As someone early posted, a big reason has been there has been big increase of testing with migrant workers. Deaths have been going way down as well.

I'm not saying it's over and lets go back to normal, but the sky isn't falling in FL. People seem to be upset they were wrong about how FL was going to be worse than Italy, and they're still trying to find ways to make it come true.

The facts say otherwise.

The testing went up and flattened in May. The daily cases keep going up. Percent positive went from 5% in early May to 12% at the end of May. Hospital bed use went from 60% to 80%.

I live in AZ too. And I see very few people wearing masks and maintaining social distancing.

Normally, I would agree with this statement 100%. But what about is the situation like this pandemic where I don't control what you do, and what you do or don't do could potentially impact so many other people, including me? I can control my cleanliness, my mask, and a few other things. But if I'm in the grocery store or an amusement park where masks are required, and someone ignores the distancing recommendations or refuses to wear a mask, my control is gone at that point. And with approximately 1/3 of the cases being people who don't show symptoms - it's impossible to tell who might be contagious and who's not. There is nothing available to us right now to determine that.

It's easy to look at the numbers in so many different ways. Some of the "facts" listed in this post alone are either slanted or can't be proven.

It's a tough time.

We're never going to have a true picture. My next door neighbor is ill. He has been running a fever off and on for over a week, with body aches and a dry cough. He's in his mid-thirties. He thinks he has the virus. Their baby is also ill. She's had fevers, as well. They are sick, but not sick enough that they think they should be tested. So, they may very well have the virus, but will never be counted in the totals. They have been out and about since things started reopening.

I am not really worried about him. He is young and healthy and seems to be doing okay. I am more concerned about their baby. I told them to watch her for the beginnings of a rash. She's not even a year old.

I am seeing a pretty even split in Florida. There are those being cautious about where they go and who always wear a mask. The others seem to think it's all over and they can do whatever without repercussion.

Our governor put out his plan for reopening schools in the fall. In June, open summer programs. In July, open more programs.s In August, open schools for a normal school year. Glad I don't have any little ones!

Are they still going out now? I don't know that there is such things as "sick enough to be tested". If he's running symptoms, he should be tested. And then he'll know. It's equally irresponsible to assume you have it and tell people that when you don't know for sure.

Yup we should be worried about our hospital bed census here in Arizona. I went to target the other day to do order pick up and no one except me and the employees were wearing masks. At the grocery store very few people are wearing masks, which is concerning since the grocery store I go to has a high percentage of senior citizen shoppers.

Can't survive or weakens/doesn't spread as easily?
The theory was indeed won't survive. And some people even said it won't survive the warm up in April and May. And as proof they were talking about low numbers in Brazil which has average highs that range from 86-90 all year. At the time I said well something is brewing down there because they've just asked all those Cuban doctors they expelled to come back. And at the time I said I hope this stuff is seasonal and if it is similar to other stuff it might be, but right now there is nothing concrete to say that it is. And even things that are highly seasonal can actually be caught in the summer. Well now we know. Brazil is #2 in deaths and if they can't get it under control down there, things are really going to get worse. It not only survived the warm up, it has thrived. We're just going to have to wait and see until it runs its course. The heat alone didn't get it. It was those poo pooing it that were wrong.

It is not clear if any of your charts cover hospitalizations in Florida over the lat 3-5 days. That is the subject of this thread, and they have been going up despite general trends of decrease in many states.

Remember, Fear>behavior modification>better health outcomes. From those who are not interested in better health outcomes, we now have the use of derogatory terms like 'fear porn.'
