My Chistmas Wish-A small town white Christmas

Gosh I really don't know how far you want to travel but our winter house rental was in Madison, CT which is on the Long Island shore of CT.
Our rental was right on the shore and next to Hammonassett State Park which made for nice nature walks. It's a little town with a well stocked supermarket (Stop and Shop) and a nearby...Pathmark(?), produce shops, fishmongers, and such plus some nice restaurants, a movie house (mostly art films; you have to go one exit up on 95 to find the multiplex with current movies). It's surrounded by other small towns like Clinton, Bransford, Guilford that are 10 to 30 minutes away. The local patch gives you a heads up on what type of fundraisers the police and fire departments Rotary , Elks and similar clubs are doing. They tend to have fish frys, lobster dinners and the like. Around Christmas they have holiday cakes and cookies for sale. One of the nearby towns (Branford?) has an old fashioned bandshell in the middle of the town green where caroling takes place. Lots of antique and thrift shops mostly on US 1. Various nearby attractions such as a boat tour of the Thimble Islands (you'll have to check if it runs during the winter), Florence Griswold Museum

Mystic Seaport, the Aquarium, and Village are nearby and the seaport in particular looks beautiful during the holidays.

Bishops Orchard is so much fun even though you'll have missed the fruit picking. Great prepared food for those times you don't feel like cooking as well as fresh produce. Their cider doughnuts are amazing.:

If you like Italian food on the quick (it's a deli/salumeria not a restaurant) try this place:

Need some of the best seafood or fresh fish on the entire eastern seaboard (LOL someone in MD is gonna think I'm talking smack but really we rent a car just to grab stuff during the holidays). Really nice prepared food with the RI clam chowder not to be missed what with you not being in RI. Totally different from Manhattan or New England styles.

Here's 2 links from CT Tourism that might help you better decide if you want to go there:

Another nearby area that could be fun is Essex, CT, in the Connecticut River Valley. Off the shore with it's own look and a bigger town center than any of the shore towns. During the summers we've taken car rides on small roads just for the beauty of the landscape. Probably 45 minutes from the shore.

For us the state is relaxing and up until recently where we spent our most of our 4th of Julys for 10 odd years.

Have fun where ever you decide to go:).
Wow, thanks! You had me at apple cider donuts. Definitely going on the list

Seven Springs in PA. It’s beautiful. It has skiing and all that, but it’s not as large as something you would find in Colorado. I don’t ski or snowboard and I actually hate snow, but I love it there. You can stay onsite or easily rent a beautiful cabin. Where are you from? Have you never had a white Christmas before?

I love this place!!
I remember going there as a kid, and though we went for quiet summer getaways, I'm sure it would be beautiful at Christmastime!

I think we were really wanting to find a lodge or a cabin at a lodge to rent. Wanting that small town feel with some little shops and activities for the family...

Check into Lake George, NY, too.
It's another place I've been in the summer, but that might be just what you're looking for at Christmastime.

And the 3 suggestions you replied to at the bottom of page 1 also sound great!

Its on the list, i think i love research and planning as much as the trip

Elkhart Lake is VERY small town, even though the resort is fairly big. But, just so you know, sometimes Wisconsin doesn't even have snow for Christmas, but I can guarantee it will probably be cold!
https://www.osthoff.com/https://www.christmasmarketatosthoff.com/activitiesResort activities that are either on-site or within 30 minutes include dog sledding, skiing, snowshoeing, ice-skating and sledding. They have a great Christmas Day buffet in their ballroom and the accommodations are condos, so you can bake cookies, put up a tree and participate in whatever other traditions your family likes to take part in.

Woodloch in Pennsylvania. It’s a big family resort. Everyone I know who has gone there has loved it. They have room or houses to rent etc. Food I think can be included. Lots of activities. Good luck planning!

You have received some wonderful suggestions. The only concern I would have is the possibility of no snow at Christmas which is a very real possibility here in Michigan. I would think you might be better off at someplace like The Four Seasons in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Our DD and DSIL treated us to a stay there. Although pricey, they have everything your family would want and the snow is sure to be there.

There was a similar thread a couple years ago. FlightlessDuck had recommended Bethlehem, PA, and posted some links to their Christmas celebration. It sounds really wonderful. The only problem is that with the climate change, there might not be a guarantee of snow in PA. :(

Here is his post:
I've been there every year for the past 40. ;)
Bethlehem bills itself at "The Christmas City" because it was a missionary settlement organized by Moravian Church missionaries and was given the name Bethlehem on Christmas Eve, 1741.
Throughout the Christmas season, there are tours of the historic area available with costumed tour guides.
It includes one of the largest Christmas markets (Christkindlmarkt) in the world. They have a glassblowing experience available this year.
Moravian Bookshop, the longest continuing operating bookstore in the United States, hosts an evening with Gerald Charles Dickens (Dickens' 2x great grandson).
Downtown is decorated tastefully with holiday music playing with lots of shops and restaurants.
There are horse drawn carriage rides available. And there are night bus tours also.
There are performances of the Nutcracker in both Bethlehem and nearby Allentown.
Touchstone Theatre, a local community theatre group, performs their traditional Christmas City Follies
Central Moravian Church (the headquarters of the Moravian Church in the United States) hosts a Christmas Eve Vigil that is truly beautiful but requires tickets to attend because of its popularity.
The Moravian Museum of Bethlehem will have various Christmas music performances throughout the year.
Frank Banko Alehouse Cinemas has special Christmas matinee movies (White Christmas, It's a Wonderful Life, etc.)
Civic Theatre of Allentown will be preforming A Christmas Carol and The Santaland Diaries this December.
Easton's State Theatre will have several Christmas related shows throughout December.

STOWE MOUNTAIN LODGE in Stowe, Vermont. The place is absolutely beautiful. Even though you don't ski - no worries. There is a lot to do around the cute, quaint, snowy town of Stowe. I did a few work events at this lodge during the holidays and it is so pretty. I'm sure they would work with you in setting up cookies to ice, a tree in your room, etc. I had my DD's Sweet 16 party up there 10 years ago (wow time flies) and they went over and beyond for us to make it extra special.

Also in Stowe is: The Stoweflake Resort, Trapp Family Lodge and Smugglers Notch Resort. Smugglers Notch has a great snow tubing area - so even though you don't ski try out the snow tubes!

Let me know if I can help with any other info.

If you really want snow, I wouldn't go to any state that didn't touch canada. That would increase your chances of getting snow, but know that some years it's just 40 and raining even up north.
