NYRR says NYC marathon is going on as scheduled. So they think things will be back to normal by November.
So happy this thread is active!
Racing: immunity, testing, prevalence, therapeutics, vaccines ... I don't think it'll be the same for years. As an aside, someone told me the atmosphere of Boston is what made it so special, so even if somehow it was held in September it would be completely different with likely sparse spectatorship.
Yes, please report back to us - I'm very interested.I hope it is ok to post something that is not related to any of the QOTD!
Today, I just registered for a Race (5K) end of May!
It is called Solo Run and held by a local Running Shop. The best thing is, it is not a virtual Race; they have prepared a Course.
You get a BIB (with a timing chip) and a mask via SnailMail. A few days before the Race they are going to send you an email with your personal starting time. Every runner gets his own starting time. The number of allowed Runners is limited, and between every "individual" start are 60 seconds. They have very strict rules, like:
- Wear a mask before and after the Race.
- No early show ups allowed.
- Leave the Finish line right after you grab your medal from a stand.
- Warm up and cool down are not allowed anywhere near the Start / Finish / Course.
- Keep a "social distance" while overtaking slower Runners.
- No spectators are allowed.
I like the idea, it feels like a time trial. The only thing I fear, what if other Runner do not follow all the Rules?
They offer three Running "Modes", Solo, Double (Where you can run with a friend (we are allowed here in Germany to run with one other person at the moment)), Familiy (Run with your complete household, also allowed here in Germany).
If you like, I report back, after the Race! I am going to run with a friend and we try to stay under 30 Minutes for that 5.2K, but the Course is a little bit hilly.
ATTQOTD: I am currently on day 136 of my run streak, so I am running at least a mile every day. I made a goal for May to run 20 miles a week and also do one Peloton workout a day (this can include things like stretching and meditation, so I am not just going non-stop). It's getting hotter here, so the miles are hard to get in unless I get up early, which I am terrible at. For some reason, running is feeling extra hard nowadays and it makes me want to stop the run streak and enjoy some rest days, but I mean, 136 is a lot of days and I don't know how to when I would even want to stop it. Especially since I have nothing to interfere with it like vacations.
What are vacations?
Most of us in my office are going to have 4-6 weeks left over this year, and I’ll be damned if I’m using them up for a staycation.
I'm glad we can carry over vacation time so we can avoid the staycation problem. I'm debating 2021 spots now to use up all that extra time.
