Would anyone like to join me & be a volunteer for the Full Marathon? UPDATE 9/10

monte, you can register here: http://disneyworldsports.disney.go....unteer2008HalfMarathonRegisterEventDetailPage

On a similar note, maybe you all can help me-- I just registered to volunteer for the half, and I just wanted to see if anyone can read the course map better than I can. I signed up for the #4 water stop, which, if I'm reading the map right, looks to be the one near/in Frontierland. Does that look right? I want to be able to meet my husband and kids at MK after my shift-- will I be able to show my park pass and stay, or will I be carted out and have to make my way back under my own steam? Thanks!

Where do I go to volunteer for the half?

I think that water stop is on Topiary Lane before WL. Water Stop #6 looks like it is in/near Frontierland. I am pretty sure the park water stops are always backstage though. Which also means Disney will probably "cart you out!" :rotfl:

I will let you guys know when I find out something about volunteering as a group. We are headed up north camping today, so I will be MIA for awhile...

Thanks! So I wonder then, how far is it from Topiary Lane to the WL? That's my hotel, plus if I'd be carted out anyway and have to reenter if I was inside MK, maybe it'd be easier to walk back to the WL and take WDW transportation from there.

Does anyone know if the course splits for the 1/2 like it does for the full into the blue and red course??

Thanks
Kim

Just an FYI to those volunteering or thinking about it. I sent an e-mail to Disney Sports to ask a few questions about volunteering. Per the reply I received, volunteers need to check-in at the WWS Complex and Disney then busses volunteers from there to the appropriate location. Check-out from the shift also occurs at the WWS Complex, at which time volunteers will receive their one day pass for volunteering. There is no Disney transportation provided on site specifically for volunteers to get to and from resorts to WWS.

I am still strongly considering joining the WISH Water Stop #2 (Red) Hydration Warriors. Please let us know when you receive a response about doing it as a group.

Well that's stupid! I'll have a car, so getting to and from WWS is not a big deal, but driving from WWS to Epcot or any other point on property is going to be a pain with the road closures!! Not to mention trying to park at Epcot at 9:30 or whatever time we get there, we'll be parked out in the boonies!

Kim--There is only 1 course for the half marathon. In 2006 everyone started together (it took me 13:00 to cross the start line), in 2007 they had 3 waves at the start, wave A was at 6:00, wave B was maybe 6:15 and wave C was 6:30 I think.

Well, phooey. If it's that complicated, maybe I just won't bother. Thanks for the info.

I agree, having the Wisher's at YC/BC was HUGE for me. I knew if I could just get to our Scream Team at mile 24, I would make it to the finish line. My IT band/knee hurt so bad, I was limping, I was in pain, I was crying, but coming across the bridge by the Dolphin and rounding the corner by the Yacht Club and seeing all the lime green and a sea of familiar faces was priceless. I am forever grateful to all of you for the smiles and cheers, to Mel for walking with me for a few feet and letting me cry on her shoulder. It's making my eyes tear up just thinking about it 8 months later. This is the best group, I love you guys!!!!! :grouphug:
Me too! I was limping right behind you with my IT band issues and seeing WISH Scream Teamers actually everywhere was fantastic!

When Craig likened the AK spot to the "Death March" it is so true. Scream Team/anyone is a blessing there. I won't be volunteering as I am "Goofy" yes I am, but I will say it is so meaningful to haveour WISH Team anywhere along the way. Thank you to everyone in any way you contribute official volunteering or WISH Team volunteering.

The wave starts were 6:00, 6:10, and 6:30. This was much better than 06 which it took me almost 20 minutes to get to the start line after the gun. With the wave I was up next to the start line and able to see everything going on at the Wave B(6:10) start. It took me me only 30 seconds to cross the start line.

For those in the 6:30 start it is an extra 30 minutes waiting around besides the extra time to cross the start line.

I signed up for Red # 2 cause my wife (wdwfan9pirate: ) told me to... haha... not really, I did it cause it sounds like fun. And then I hope to jump to the end to SCREAM:cheer2:  :cheer2:  :cheer2: for all the W.I.S.H.ers !!!!! I will be doing the half on Saturday.:cool1:

I think somebody....and I won't mention any redheaded names....:rolleyes1 ....should start a list of who's where. I've read thru this thread and I can't keep track. I'm pretty sure the "WISH Water Stop #2 (Red) Hydration Warriors" so far inclues:

Kristi
Krista
Judy
Jim

Bill, come on, just sign up. You know you want to. ;)

BTW, I think we may have a car too. I might be able to drive from POFQ to WWS, then back. But I'm not 100% sure of that yet. I'll keep you all posted.

ahem.... ;)

I was thinking (always a bad thing!) of starting a master thread for Full & Half volunteers as soon as I hear back from disney sports.

Speaking of....since I have been more than a little crazy lately...I did not email the people at disney about this until this morning. I confess, and the Merciful Queen that is Honeibee may bestow her punishment upon me now. :guilty:

As my friend Melissa would say:
Please stay tuned, your call is important to us!

"No Goo for you!!"

:lmao:

I think a Master Thread of Volunteers is a fine idea. popcorn::

You know, if you two keep this up, you may frighten potential volunteers away. Then again, if it continues until January, water stop #2 (red) may provide some of the best on course marathon entertainment (or at least a back-up from all the marathoners slowing down to stare).

Ok, I got a response from Disney sports:

"Please contact Kristi O'Rourke...to let her know what you would like to do. She is our group coordinator."

- So, do we all want to be at the same stop?

- And if so, does the Red #2 water stop work for everyone?

- If we have more than 10 people, maybe we could start manning the blue #2 water stop as well. This lets us out early enough to go scream team near the finish.

- Can everyone who already signed up, PM me their real names. I can pass that info along to her when I call Disney.

- I will be sure to see if we can wear our WISH gear! :yay:
