Disney's BOARDWALK INN Information & Questions

Hello! So excited--just upgraded to BWI from POR for July 20-25! It's my first time staying there, and will be a total surprise for my travel partner, my bff. (I upgraded without telling her and will let her realize when we get to the Magical Express!)
Four out of five nights have us in Epcot so an Epcot resort just made sense. Soooo excited to learn more about this resort and count down with you all!

What a great surprise, @klacey1! I'll log your dates:)

Just wanted to share our view earlier this month. We had a studio on the villas side (room 5048) - it was great!!

Thank you for posting your view, @michigandergirl.

Just got back! Booked a BVI Standard room and requested "highest floor/near elevator". That's exactly what we got - 5304! Had a great view of a charming courtyard as well as Epcot! My only complaint about the resort is the lack of a quick service restaurant but still loved it!

As a side note, even if you do the online check-in and receive your room number via text message, I would still suggest stopping by the front desk to get info like maps/daily happenings. We didn't do this and totally missed the Easter "candy grab" with Goofy, Donald and Daisy. We just didn't know about it!!

Thanks for posting your great advice, @MeeskaMooska13.

I just spoke with a room assignor at the boardwalk. I asked for a ground floor and she said a standard view at the inn side starts at the 2nd floor. but then i looked on touring plans and there are ground floor rooms available???????

That doesn't sound right, @LMO429. There are Standard View rooms on the ground floor facing the garden/pool area. HERE is the Room Finder link to those rooms, which you already consulted. You might have been speaking with someone who was from the Call Center and not actually onsite?

My dates have changed. We'll now be going 9-8-17 to 9-14-17.

I'll update your dates, @tsme.

We are confirmed for December 2-9 in a 1 BR through DVC Rental Store! I am so excited. My parents and infant son will be going for the first time.

I have used both David's and DVC Rental. I had great experiences with both but I like that DVC Rental will check for you without a deposit and also you can purchase cancellation insurance.

Congratulations and I'll log your dates, @nursemelis374:)

Just booked yesterday & got free dining at BW (our first time staying here) for Nov 15-20!! We are So excited!!

WOOHOO! I'll get your dates added to the BoardWalk Bulletin, @laurxx24.

Good point. And that area is not equipped at the moment to handle anything more than mild crowds without a backup. I hope they re-imagine their plans there.

One of my most favorite things is the peace and quiet of walking to EPCOT through the IG!

So many changes, and fairly recently, all over WDW and ITA that this is another one that will forever change the IG, to make way for "progress" :(. I love your "re-imagine" comment:rotfl:

Thank you for posting your photos, @Tardisblue:)

I'm here now and the only signs of construction/maintenance we've seen is on the Boardwalk itself. They appear to be painting the railing and they have "Wet Paint" signs on the ground by the railing, but I haven't seen any progress since we arrived on Saturday.

My wife went down to the lobby this morning and ceiling on the 4th floor by the elevators (BWV side) was dripping water and bubbling up, so there may be more construction this week.

Thank you for your (soggy) update. Was the bucket a water feature?:rolleyes2

We had one over the weekend.

We are back from one night at BWI CL - we had an awesome huge balcony on the corner so we had a garden and a boardwalk view - on the 4th floor - that was an upgrade from our standard view that we booked! We thoroughly enjoyed all of the CL offerings - we took advantage of all but the dessert - the bus back that night was ridiculous - took 40 minutes to arrive - so we missed out on those - loved the lounge and the CM's were wonderful. We didn't love the layout of the resort - and that clown creeps me out a big - but I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again - especially CL - had a great 30 hours there! LOL!

Thank you for posting your Innkeeper's Club update, @Ferrentinos.

We just returned from Disney's Boardwalk. We had a wonderful trip overall. The Boardwalk has an excellent location but we will most likely not stay there in the future just due to a couple of minor inconveniences that we do not find when we stay over at the beach club.

the biggest factor is the NOISE! OMG we were in room 3279 our room was right above the bar and the quad where they play movies outside. we had to wear earplugs many nights just to fall asleep.

it was a pain to have to switch elevators from the rooms to another elevator to get downstairs to the boardwalk.

the pool was just okay. i did like how the kiddie area was fenced off which was helpful with a wandering 18 month old.

the staff was very pleasant, the location is great but for a better pool and the quiet will we be staying at the yacht and the beach club from now on.

So your "ground floor" request wasn't met or did you change your request, @LMO429? SAB is a great pool.

We spent last week at BWV for the first time as DVC members. Here's a post trip report of sorts.

Resort

Overall very good. Location can’t be beat – we love being able to walk to Epcot and walk or boat over to DHS. We had a 2 BR in rooms 4007 and 4009 overlooking the Boardwalk and directly above the DVC model in the Crest of the Wave section of the resort and it worked out really well for us. It’s a VERY long walk to the room from the elevator, but when you’re walking around 10 miles a day you get used to it. The Boardwalk is unique in that it’s not all contained inside like (all?) the other resorts. Specifically the deluxe resorts – you can access the lobby, stores, restaurants, everything inside. This is a minor, personal peeve of mine but not enough to discredit the resort. This was our first week long stay as DVC members and I had no problem at all with no housekeeping (we left our privacy card on the door all week). I actually prefer not having anyone coming in and rooting around, but that’s just me.

Pool is fun – yeah, the clown is creepy but you get used to it. We spent several hours here on Wednesday and went once or twice more during the week. Never had any problem finding chairs or a table, brought our own beverages. Good time.

Arcade – spent $25 on a game card and had more credits than we were able to use. I’m very happy to report both my kids thought Donkey Kong was the best game in the arcade.

Muscles and Bustles – did not use it but found it odd that every morning we walked by several people were on the treadmills and I’m thinking to myself “it’s a beautiful morning, you’re at a beautiful resort, why wouldn’t you be walking around the Boardwalk, Y&BC and over to DHS?”

Boardwalk skill games – we played the water squirt game, launched lobsters, shot hoops – all fun and entertaining. Ended up with even MORE souvenirs to pack. Not a great value but fun to do.

Quad bikes - took a spin in these. My two DD's were just a little too short to be able to assist with pedaling, so they both rode in the basket leaving me, my wife and MIL to pedal. We did ONE spin around the lake and parked it. I think these will be a one-time affair until my kids can assist.

Transportation – buses leaving the resort were fine. On time, plenty of room. The buses coming back from Disney Springs, Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom left a lot to be desired. We waited for 45 minutes returning from Disney Springs on Saturday night, 30 plus minutes from MK and about 25-30 minutes from Animal Kingdom. I know it states that buses run every 20 minutes, but it’s frustrating to watch multiple buses for all of the other resorts show up in 5 to 10 minute intervals while you’re waiting on a single bus to return to a deluxe resort. We only went to Disney Springs once specifically because of the bus situation. We’re going back in October and will be staying at Saratoga Springs so we’ll be able to walk. The boats to and from Epcot and DHS were great – relaxing, on time, plenty of room. We also used Uber twice going to the Polynesian both times (Trader Sam's and 'Ohana). Both drivers were excellent and I would use Uber again in lieu of buses for certain trips.

Restaurants

Frontera Cocina – awesome. Everyone loved their meal, great atmosphere, excellent service. Highly recommend.

Akershus breakfast – meh. Food was ok, service was fair. Didn’t feel like it was a good value. Will not do this one again.

‘Ohana breakfast – good. Better than Akershus, entertaining, good food. Slightly better value but still expensive. It will be a few years before we go again.

Yak and Yeti – always good. Went here on Tuesday (the ONLY day it rained on us). We were soaked and sought refuge here. We had reservations but they were able to seat us about 30 minutes early, thankfully. Hot tea and great food warmed us up. My wife went to the restroom and ran into her roommate from the college program that she hadn’t seen in 19 years. Small world indeed. The Y&Y may be my favorite restaurant at WDW.

Cape May dinner – really good. Yes, it’s a little spendy but everyone in our party enjoyed it and I will definitely eat here again. Plenty of seafood (if that’s your deal as it is ours), carving station, soups, salads, great service and nice location.

ESPN Zone – ordered takeout from here on Friday night after we found out we couldn’t order take out from Trattoria al Forno. I enjoyed my food, it’s not top tier, but it’s good.

To Go Cart on the Boardwalk – you know it’s hotdogs and fried food. Good in a pinch, don’t eat there every night.

Boardwalk Pizza Window – meh. Crust seemed a little like cardboard. It was just ok.

Bars

Trader Sam’s was a lot of fun. Tucked away in the Polynesian and not very big. Kids can be there until 8:00 PM. My wife and I went here on Sunday night it was probably the most fun we had. The bartenders are engaging, the theme is cool and there’s always something to look and enjoy.

Abracadabar is a cool bar on the Boardwalk. Not as entertaining as Trader Sam’s, but has an interesting theme. Great for a quick cocktail while strolling along the Boardwalk. I wouldn’t spend a lot of time here, but it’s worth a visit.

Parks

More crowded than we expected. Flower and Garden Festival was in full stride and Epcot was pretty busy on both days we went (Sunday and Friday the 5th). Obviously the Mexico pavilion was busy on Cinco de Mayo, but we were still able to get in and enjoy nachos and margaritas. Had a FastPass for Frozen on Friday - it's a cute ride but there is no way I'd wait more than 30 minutes for it. Use a FP by all means. We rode Soarin' both days and it's still my favorite.

The Magic Kingdom was really busy, Emporium had construction netting all around. We did things we either haven’t done in a while or have never experienced – Country Bear Jamboree, Tiki Room, Jungle Cruise. Fun, but I honestly think MK is tied for 3rd with DHS as my favorite park. Epcot is still #1 and AK has moved up to #2. The detail to theming at AK is incredible. We tried to get into the Pandora preview but were stopped and informed only ticketed cast members were able to enter. Did not stay for Rivers of Light, but hope to hit it and Pandora in October.

Hollywood Studios – still fun. People of Hollywood were out and one act was the two drunk guys doing fortune telling. My youngest daughter watched them for probably 20 minutes and finally had her fortune told. Really entertaining skit. Once Star Wars and Toy Story land(s) open this may knock MK into 4th position for me.

A great first stay as DVC Members. We purchased resale after April 4, 2016 so we don't get all of the benefits. All week I felt the specter looming over me to go talk with a sales rep about adding on 25 points direct, but never succumbed to the pressure. We passed the entrance for the Epcot Lounge twice and I didn't feel left out. I think I'm OK with 2nd class status.

We're looking forward to going back to the Boardwalk possibly for Spring Break 2018 if the waitlist doesn’t come through for Grand Californian. We’ll try out Saratoga Springs in the fall and then start making our way through the other resorts.

Cheers!

What a thorough review of your stay, thank you for posting it, @Tardisblue :). I hope your waitlist comes through.

Hmmm...We have a reservation for 7-13 to 7-18 at BWI and I have not received a construction letter. They were painting last July when we were there. What could they be doing now??

So strange since your trip is right before ours! I wasn't sure exactly what they were doing, but I didn't want an unhappy surprise! I really loathe construction!

Love reading all the reviews and information... we are staying for the first time on the BWV side this August (8/17-8/23). we are renting points for 2 studios (one standard/one Boardwalk view...we know they will not be anywhere near one another and that is fine :)) and a 1 BR standard booked through Disney travel.

Few questions for anyone who might know :) experts maybe lol....

It is my understanding for the most part when booking through Disney 1 BR standards are often sprinkled throughout the villa side (except for boardwalk view)...is this true?

We requested (through the rental agency) high floor and far from elevator crest o' the wave section for our Boardwalk view studio... is this a good choice? How loud is it really? I am just a little worried about noise. But I really wanted that view lol
For our Standard Studio we just requested high floor in area across from the bus stop (this is my daughters room and she is in no way picky lol).

Any recommendations for a 1BR? This will be my parents and 15 year old son. My parents love balconies and on our yearly summer trips with them to GCH they do Downtown Disney View and they sit on the balcony from about 5 PM in the evening till 11PM...no joke. They read/watch crowd/order room service....every night of our 5 night stays lol.. I am guessing it is really too hot to do this in August in Orlando?

Is there stair access from the hotels? Like can you go out the boardwalk via stairs... I know this seems like a silly question but we are Disneyland resort stayers and you used to be able to go out a set of stairs in the GCH but no longer... so I wondered about BWV.

Hi Tardisblue....I read your review... great :) if you don't mind my asking? What floor were you on? How was the noise? I am ok with long walks as long as I have a pretty view lol. Hope you get your Grand California stay... I don't know if you have been but it is a lovely hotel :) We had the chance to buy in to DVC (did the tour/looked at the numbers) at GCV years ago but like a ninny I didn't!! We purchased a cabin instead...so now I get to work when I vacation in my vacation home lol!

Thanks for any information :)

We always request 5th floor and I greatly prefer the Crest O' The Wave section...either of the last two 1-bedroom villas at the far end. It is a long walk from the elevators; but it's an indoor, climate controlled, cushioned carpet walk; and these rooms have the very best view IMO. The Epcot ball turns into a purple glowing nightlight through your window at night. I purposefully leave the curtains open when I leave the room in the morning so my "nightlight" is the first thing I see when we return to the resort in the evening. Bonus: A stairwell is right next to those rooms leading to the outside. Upon returning from HS via the boat, we get off at Swan/Dolphin, walk over the bridge and up the stairs. Boom! We are in the room 10 minutes before the boat docks at Boardwalk.

Regarding the noise, I am one who will crack the door at night just so I can fall asleep to the sounds of the Boardwalk; but once I was awakened by bar lingerers departing Jellyrolls who were quite cheerful. I just closed the door and didn't hear them anymore.

Okay all ... Staying for 5 days at Boardwalk Villas from November 25 to 30 (courtesy of some DVC points a colleague let me rent) with the wife and 2 boys (15 and 11). I have a "Preferred View" 1BR Villa - which I understand is near the pool / garden area. It's my first stay there, though we've spent many many nights hanging out on the Boardwalk over the years.

I was thinking I should probably call and add a room request. Any idea what, specifically, I should ask them for ?

I like the idea of a balcony, would really like a good view (even though we won't spend a lot of time in the room), and would really prefer not to be real close to an elevator lobby or a noisy ice machine.

From what I read, there's a lot of walking to the room either way; shouldn't be too much of a problem, though if there's something closer that fits the bill, that would be great too.

Thanks for any info ! Really looking forward to this trip.

Here now -- got in last night. We are on the BWI side with a standard view. I asked for highest floor and got a 5th floor room overlooking the entryway to the resort. I'd have preferred overlooking the gardens, but this is fine. Our neighbors were late getting in last night and are loud talkers. Hopefully they'll leave soon. I'm going to request a box fan to help muffle the sound tonight; my whiten noise app didn't quite do it. DD was fine but, as she said, she is used to the college dorm!

We are off to Typhoon Lagoon this morning. I've been looking forward to Miss Adventure falls since it opened!

I don't really see any construction going on. The astroturf looks nicer than I thought it would. I feel very "at home" here.

I am here now. BWI side 4th floor CL. We had fire alarms go off at 3:30 this morning and had to go down to the court yard for half an hour or so until they checked it out and got them turned off. Other than that this has been a magical trip. The CL was pixie dust upgrade at check in. I has a perfect boardwalk view and could even see some of the final wishes from my balcony last night.

We were on the 4th floor right above the DVC model/showroom. I can sleep through a hurricane so the noise was not an issue for me at all. My MIL was with us staying in the studio portion of our 2BR, which was closer to Jelly Rolls. She said one night she could hear people out on the Boardwalk until 2:00 AM (I believe), so it can be noisy at times.

BWV Standard on points will be along the main drive. BWV Standard for cash from Disney Reservation Center will be what is called a Pool/Garden view on points. So your points standard view may be far from your other two villas, especially the BWView studio which will be along the boardwalk. Lots of people complain about the noise from the luggage carts (from DME) on the lower level of the standard view (on points).

There are stairs that you can use to exit the building and re-enter the building.

Thank you both so much!!
We will bring ear plugs just in case :) and maybe one of those little noise machines...my DH can sleep through anything but I am bit lighter sleeper.

On rooms...I figured we could/would possibly be far from one another. I figure we will just make a central location to meet in the morning. It would be great if one of the reservations was close to the other. We did "note" them all on my parents reservation...the 1BR through Disney. My main concern is upper floor...after that I don't care so much :)

Very excited :)

Parking is currently great for self parking. No issues at this time. Also haven't run across and contruction. The new Astro turf they put in feels great.

The watching machines at the resort can use both powder or liquid detergent right? No need for high efficiency or anything special correct?

I know the washers inside the villas are usually standard washers (not HE). But the ones in the laundry room might be HE. I know they were at OKW in the laundry rooms there.

I believe the washers in the BWV laundry room are HE. I have a picture of the vending machine in there which sells laundry detergent, and it says HE on the containers. I haven't been in the Boardwalk Inn laundry room.

We checked in yesterday and I just wanted to let everyone know that the construction was pretty terrible... The entire front entrance to the hotel was closed off so we were dropped off at the conference center by the Magical Express with all of our luggage and we walked to the lobby. They were jackhammering around the front entrance of the resort for most of the day until 4 p.m. ... Not sure what they were doing but the entrance was not accessible yesterday. We also got a phone call with a message saying that they would be testing fire alarms tomorrow between 11 and 4 p.m.
