Hurricane Irma?

they just interviewed some people on the news that are saying they know a lot of people actually sheltering in Disney so they didn't want o miss their trip and talked to" many" people who were there for the last and it wasn't that bad. i'm sorry i love this place and everything that comes with it, but to run into a burning forest just to get the hike in is nuts. they said it's the only time they could go. really? never again? i just think it's careless or i don't really know. i have been following this thread all week and it just amazes me. so many people i have met over the years that are still in rough shape texas. isn't that enough to not want to head to disney now?

i don't know to that family on the news this morning good luck and be well, but really. . .

i know come next week all those who did go i'm sure will be ok and will be like "oh it's wasn't that bad, see" but I wouldn't gamble on that one especially with my children my legacy in tow.

Judging unilaterally is always a good way to go.

This thread is for assistance and still help people plan even through the storm and for those who are rearranging and cancelling. (Not what I'm saying, what are mods have said.)

If you want to just judge an entire group of people without knowing their individual circumstances you can always put a message on Facebook.

Flying in late to MCO. DO you think it will still be closed?

Oh I don't know. Only concern is this thing looks like it is moving slower. Was supposed to be here in atl midday Monday now they are saying early Tuesday. Just have to wait and see. I hope for the best for you!!

Thanks! It's our first WDW trip with all of our three kids and my wife's first trip in 25 years! We are flying in from Raleigh non-stop, so I hope we can avoid stormy skies!

Hi I am not going to dispute what news sources are more reliable or credible. I tend to get more of my information from the NHC but I do also watch the updates on weather channel. As of a few minutes ago they are saying that it could still be a category 3 storm when it hits Orlando. With being on the east side of the storm could be worse. Please everybody don't let your guard down and stay safe it will be rough. I am not here to spread doom and gloom. I mentioned I have family in several locations in Florida in those areas. I am so very sad for all these Floridians that have to go through this. In my thoughts.

I'm supposed to fly down on the 15th. I'm not cancelling now. I was there for Matthew and it turned out fine for the WDW. The same could happen with Irma.
I'm also flying in on the 15th. Right now the plan is still to go. I'm staying on Disney and Universal property. So shouldn't hamper efforts in the surrounding areas. I'll make my final decision Tuesday.

I also went right after Francis. I tried to go out of my way to be extra nice to all the CM. The weather was great and the parks were empty because of the cancellations. The economy there though runs on tourist dollars. Weeks of cancellation after this would also hurt the area. It's a fine balance.

We are flying in Tuesday from the UK. I called my TA to see what we could do in regards to changing or cancelling, I was told to just head to the airport on Tuesday morning and I would be told then the state of my flight :sad2: if I cancelled I would lose all the money for the holiday as the company are only willing to change or cancel up to the 11th.

Yes, I have the Live Irma update channel on now. Orlando is on the west side of the storm but, the storm is tracking even further west. It seems each update has a slight tick west. The more west it goes, the more Orlando is further from even the cone of bad on the west. So the current track is improving conditions ever so slightly in Orlando but worsening them in Tampa and surrounding areas.

So crazy. I was originally planning our first trip there from Sept 5 to the 15th, but then changed to Jan so my sister could go. It would be scary, but also cool at the same time. I hope everyone there stays safe and they don't take on too much damage.

Are you talking to someone in particular?I'm confused on your I am not going to dispute comment.

I thought the dirty side of the storm is the east?

I don't know about all that. Don't worry about it it will be either safe for you to come or if it isn't safe they will give a refund. Of course there is always weird situations but that has been the case so far. I would wait though and see.

I was miracualously able to get my sister (a CP) on a flight to Detroit (we are from Cleveland) tomorrow afternoon. I'm 99% positive delta added a flight to get people out. Praying it takes off as scheduled and she can get home to us.... Curious on what DISers think on here about this. My mom is part of the parents group for the current CPs. A mom went off earlier today saying all CPs who left should be terminated. Around 100 parents agreed with that and said they are so proud of their son or daughter for staying and being able to work for Disney when it reopens and not have to fly back (not the ride out crew). I just thought that statement was absolutely crazy!!! We all love Disney but WHO KNOWS what this storm is going to do and tons of parents are criticizing everyone who left to be safe with their families. Am I wrong for not jumping on getting the flight for my sister? Her roommates are also refusing to take her to the airport because they don't think she should leave.
Delta flew in a double decker 747(?) yesterday to MCO to get more people out. MCO's twitter page has video if it. :)

Hi sorry about that no! I was just making a blanket statement because way early on there were postings of which is better to watch or listen to to about the storm. Sorry about the confusion I was talking with my family in Cape Coral at at the same time. I can't do two things at once anymore! I just don't want to cause anymore in thread disagreements.

We flew in on Tuesday and got an email on Wednesday afternoon that our Sunday evening flight was cancelled. We called on Wednesday to try and get an earlier flight out, bit everyone beat us to the punch. So we are here at beach club.

When we checked in we ended up switching our room from a regular 2 Queens to a suite in the villas, so we at least have space now!

So far 3 flyers have been placed under our door with info ( pretty much the same info on all 3)

Last night at Cali grill our server said ( take it with a grain of salt) that 3 days of food would be delivered to all the value resorts since they have to shelter in place.

I will update with anything of note

I'm so glad I asked instead of making assumptions!

I don't know anything about weather except what the news tells me but I have always found it fascinating.

I think the thread has turned a corner. Positive thinking....

Yeah at this point I think you need to wait and see - the one concern I would have is will there be a room - if it is that bad in other parts of Florida Disney might fill up quickly - I think Universal said they are at 100% already.
They show availability for the 15th, but If it's bad those people are not going to leave and I'm pretty sure under Florida law they don't have to

Yeah - this is an issue for me as well - if I cancel I will loose about half the money I paid for this trip, so I have to wait and see before I cancel.

Still a much better position to be in than waiting to see if a hurricane is going to affect your city
