Target policy changed on GC

You might be right....however if it it is indeed a policy change, then why not just state that? They very easily changed the policy regarding purchasing the Disney gift cards using gift cards online so why not just state that moving forward you are not allowed to buy any gift cards using gift cards in store? Seems like it is poor PR to announce to so many of us who have spoken to corporate that it is due to an computer system error which they are intent on fixing. I’m still going to hold out hope (fingers crossed) :)
Because it's not just a simple "We no longer can apply target gift cards/store credit towards gift card purchase", They need to get legal involved and write up new policy. The fix is simple. That call to corporate was not to report the "glitch", they basically told them what to say. If it was a glitch, then management could have easily over ridden the transaction and accepted your gift cards.

By the way, how much did you actually spend to get those gift cards?

Just do your food shopping at Target and what you do not spend on food, apply that money towards the gift cards. That is what Target wants you to do.

Agreed. Multiple stores in multiple states and multiple corporate replies have confirmed in writing the policy isn’t changing and that it should be resolved soon. The online purchasing stopped abruptly and was confirmed by corporate right away. No reason to string people along if it was an actual policy change.

I still think they may be waiting to see how it affects people shopping at Target. I, and I suspect many others, shop at Target specifically for the gift cards I get from buying household supplies that I then save up to trade for Disney cards. I don't have much incentive to get those cards now. I'd just as soon shop elsewhere. If Target finds that there is a significant enough loss from buyers like me, they may 'fix the glitch'.

Ok, what I can't seem to understand is if you take a discounted Target gift card into their store and buy a Disney gift card with it, how are they losing money? Do they have an extremely low profit margin on the gift cards verses say paper towels or socks?

So say you only pay $75 for the $100 target giftcards. You take that $100 target giftcard and buy a $100 disney card. To me it looks like a big loss for Target especially if they only make a very small % off each card sold (Read somewhere it is 1%-3%)

That is what I am thinking as well. They make much less profit of a gift card, (regardless of brand I would think) than they do off of paper towels, dog food, shoes, ect. Maybe they took note of just how many Disney gift cards were being purchased with their own gift cards and decided to put an end to this loss of revenue? I'm just guessing here.

If they were really concerned about a 1-3% loss, why would they give redcard holders 5% off everyday?

Where are you saving 25% on a target gc? Raise? It's already been bought for 100 it 90 at the least from target. Target doesn't discount their cards that much and I'm sure they aren't losing out on gc for gc sales.

True. Good point there as well. I guess only time will tell whether or not this "issue" will be fixed. And what I wonder as well is, if they do not fix this, will they eventually take that 5% from our Red Cards? As of now, what other gift cards do they still allow the 5% off to be applied to? Anyone know?

If you pay $75 for $100 in Target GC, you are buying them from a reseller who has likely had then purchased at full price. The person who is losing $ on the transaction is the seller, not Target.

Now in the days of effective churning, sure, Target and eBay were both losing money. But those wonderful days are long gone.

I really hope they don't get rid of the 5%. That would be stupid of them. It's a tiny reward (the tax on my purchase is more!) compared to many other store cards.

I believe that the 5% off can be applied to any gift card that is categorized as an "entertainment" gift-card at this moment. Like any restaurant, Starbucks, Disney, iTunes, and I believe even phone ones? Basically practically any of the ones that are up at the checklanes that are below the Target/Visa gift cards and next to the candy, or those that are hung in the gift card aisle, if your Target has one, in the electronics department.

Anything that's like a Target gift card or Visa/Mastercard/American Express will not be eligible for the 5% off. I always tell people who ask, I work at Target, that it's like any of the gift cards where you have to use them at a specific place or where you're not like "putting money on them." I know that that's not an exact description, since technically you're using the Target ones at Target, but thankfully they seem to understand what I'm trying to get at.

So when you were able to this in store at Target, do you just go through self-checkouts and do it? Will it work with gift cards loaded onto your app?
