I got this one today too. I had to read it a couple of times to understand exactly what they were saying since it's VERY different from prior promos. Basically...it's GARBAGE, LOL! 🤣

With all of this Amex ridiculousness going on, I just went full preemptive strike and transferred my remaining MR to my Hilton account. I thought I only had 38k+ MR left after yesterday's Hilton transfer, but there were 60k+ in my account today, so I just turned them into 120k Hilton points. I know I will use those Hilton points down the line, and I just didn't want to risk losing my MR. With all that being said, my Amex accounts are all still active, as evidenced by the fact that I was able to do the transfer 5 minutes ago, but I feel better having taken full preemptive action just in case. And I totally agree with all of those analogies upstream. Amex is totally batsh*t crazy. I'm also diverting spend this week that would normally have gone on my Amex cards to my Chase cards. I haven't gone so far as to change recurring payments on my BBP to a Chase card because if I don't get shut down, I'll want those payments to stay on the BBP, but any new, non-recurring charges this week are going on my Chase cards while I wait and see on this shutdown craziness.

In other travel-related news, I got my Real ID driver's license today (or I now have the temporary one while I wait for the permanent version to be mailed to me). It was really painless. I had made an appointment online with the DMV a couple of months ago. The DMV was a madhouse today but I was called up to the window almost on the dot of my noon appointment, and the whole process took just about 5 minutes. (I had come prepared with my passport, social security card, bank statement and pay stub.) I'm actually flying each of the next three weekends, so I will use my passport at security until my permanent Real ID arrives.
Why do you think you might get shut down.

YOU CAN NOW GENERATE A SUPPORT LINK TO THE SOUTHWEST PERFORMANCE BUSINESS CARD

Generate a link here if you hold ANY SW card currently:
https://www.chase.com/referafriend/catch-all
Additionally - I advise you to put some disclaimer instructions similar to mine beside your link on DISchurners... here's what mine says:
  • Important note - make sure to click on the "Southwest [INSERT CARD NAME]" tab before you click "Apply Now" as ALL Southwest Cards are available through this same link
Sorry I'm just sharing this now - the news just came out about 3 hours ago or so but I've been busy catching up...

Yay!!!! I need to apply for the SW biz Premier and now I can use DH's account to refer! Is it weird I actually had a thought about this in the shower this morning, thinking as soon as I applied there would be the ability to refer to this card? Will be applying first thing tomorrow!

Quick, question for the USO people, @amalone1013 , @Alexle2007 and anyone else. Friend is going to USO for 2 days next week. Friday after breakfast at Chef Mickey’s, then Saturday. He wants to know best way to get on Hagrid’s. He will be staying onsite. Any tips?

Be at the turnstiles 1 hour before opening on Saturday and walk quickly to stay ahead of the pack at rope drop. Or, hop in line mid morning or early afternoon if the posted wait time is not horrendous. Actual wait times have been consistently 1/2 the posted wait, although this isn’t a guarantee. Also, apparently it tends to hit capacity around 3, so plan to go earlier in the day rather than later. They try and get everyone through the line earlier in it the day so that they can start maintenance and have it ready for opening the following morning.

There is no early park admission for IOA this month and no express yet so not much advantage to being onsite unfortunately.

LOL - we do this because we participate in our church's trunk or treat, so we are never home to pass out candy. This year someone not only took all the candy, they took the bowl as well

I guess next year I'll leave get a big bowl from Dollar Tree and then I don't care if they take it!
I saw a cute video of some kid finding an empty bowl on someone’s porch. There were other kids coming up to the porch, so he reached into his own bag and put a few handfuls of candy into the bowl. So sweet.
Did anybody here receive a recent DISboards Email or Newsletter which mentioned our thread? I'd be very interested in seeing what was said if anybody has it. You can just copy and paste it here in the main thread even!

Thanks!
I’ve been wondering where the new influx of people came from 🤔

HOW DOES THIS AFFECT THE 2020 COMPANION PASS STRATEGY:
For those of you who recently got a SW performance biz card, this likely will open up the opportunity to self-support for card 2. NOBODY can advise you on whether this is a good idea or not... We've all seen a HUGE amount of negative issues with Amex as it relates to self-supporting and other abuses. Clawbacks, shutdowns, incorrect 1099s, tax ramifications, not to mention the stress around it all...

Everybody will need to choose how to proceed here BUT I think it warrants consideration to AVOID the self-support on SW card 2 and perhaps pay it forward to the community. I wouldn't want to risk my Chase relationship and 2 years of a SW CP on a self-support click personally... There's just too much at stake there if Chase comes back at you.

That said, each of us has different risk tolerances so choose wisely. Good Luck!

Why do you think you might get shut down.

Because I did have a self-referral clawed back last year, and my ability to generate Amex support links has been turned off (within the last few weeks). I don't have any of the other factors that it seems might be causing the shutdowns, but Amex tends to take their actions in waves, so I didn't want the fact that I haven't been hit yet to give me a false sense of security. I'm cautiously optimistic I won't be shut down, but I didn't want to risk 150kish MRs. I didn't have any particular redemption in mind for them, so transferring to Hilton at a 2x multiplier seemed like a good hedge just in case.

Thanks I forwarded him the info. Not sure how early they will get there. Apparently his kids are not early risers.

If I had a stash of MRs right now and I had done any self-support activity, I would absolutely be making a paranoid move. (transfer to a partner, cash-out with Schwab, something). Not sure if that makes us both paranoid and crazy...but maybe that makes you feel a little better?

Thanks! And yes it does :) Although I don't actually feel that bad about my transfers to Hilton. They allowed me to re-book an existing cash reservation on points, and now I have a more healthy Hilton stash than I did previously. If I don't get shut down, taking this action is still all good. If I do, I'll absolutely be glad I transferred my MRs out, but will be very sad to lose my Amex cards....

I have a stash on both mine and DH's cards, but we haven't self supported anything, just supported each other. So, I have resisted the urge to empty them out.

Just to verify- I can support DH from my performance for his Card 2 and he can support me for mine even though they are different cards?

I got this one to my account. My dh got the other, which is much better for me so I’ll use his 😊
