Well, according to their current plan, they don't plan to be open. They're closed indefinitely and have no announced opening date, and have not announced a plan to release an opening date anytime soon. This is directly from Disney, which seems to be the info you're looking for. They're not keeping anything secret - these boards are just digging into everything a lot more and speculating.
Then they should stop taking reservations until they do know an opening date.

My complaint is they should have NEVER taken a reservation for a time they didn't know if they'd be open or not. Pretty irresponsible, frankly.
Why? As long as people get refunds I see no issue.

I mean really...they do not actually know that they will be open in 2021. So you dont think they should take reservations for then?

Why? No one has to make a reservation. I want them to take reservations as long as they are realistically trying to open at the time they're taking them. If they don't make it, I knew that when I booked. If they do, my plans are set and I'm ready to go. This will be my 2nd cancellation when my late June gets zapped as I expect it will. I have reservations in July as well, without having to rush in and book again. I haven't made a reservation beyond July, because our window to visit in the near future will close. But if I could go later, I'd have a back up one right now. If you don't want to take the chance, don't book. It doesn't affect you one way or the other. If you do, realize that it may get cancelled. I don't understand the objection to taking reservations without a guaranteed opening date.

I was thinking the same thing. They are never sure they will be open. They look at the probability and decide from there. When I rebooked from April to June I did similar probability in my head and thought they would be open. Clearly both me and Disney were wrong. That's life.

Because they are taking reservations for times they KNOW they won’t be open. And this is just my opinion. Everyone is entitled to their own.

I feel sympathy for cancelled trips, I really do. I have one, it still sucks.

But the solution seems pretty simple, if you think Disney shouldn’t take reservations because of uncertainty don’t make one or cancel yours until things are certain. Anyone with reservations this summer is traveling during the opening stages during a pandemic. Disney isn’t going to give certainty or best guesses likely because they don’t have certainty and they know a best guess is just going to function as an opening date for many. Again, this is a pandemic. If you need solid plans don’t travel during one.

If you want to be able to go, it’s going to come with a lot of weirdness, unknown, and uncertainty especially at first. When they allow reservations for a period it’s because at the time they thought they could be open during then. If they knew without a doubt they wouldn’t be they wouldn’t take them.

Because they are taking reservations for times they KNOW they won’t be open. And this is just my opinion. Everyone is entitled to their own.
How is it you KNOW that they know they won't be open? Because they didn't? That's not any indication at all. If that's true, why aren't they taking reservations for May and June? But let's say they were. So don't make a reservation. Let those of us who want to be suckered into their devious plan do so. It doesn't affect you in the least. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but an opinion formed from absolutely not evidence is going to be challenged.

We all rolled the dice when we rebooked for the Summer.

The only thing I’m disappointed with is Disney not offering free dining to those people that need to rebook, especially for the 2nd or 3rd time. Even if they say its only good for travel in 2021... That would be something.

Im still hoping my end of July trip flies. If it doesn’t I’ll have to push it out to next summer deal or no deal :-/

For me, as it is pretty obvious, that Disney either will be open only for a few days before my June 16th trip (I actually have a stay somewhere else that starts June 13th), or it won't be open at all.

So .. I am not going now either way. What little hope I have is gone.

As much as I want to go, if Disney is open, not even taking into account the "safety" issue, I just don't think it will be worth the money spent for a "vacation" where so many things will be modified/restricted that it just won't feel like a vacation. There are plenty of places I can go a lot closer and still have a vacation for a lot cheaper (not really sure where). I just feel anywhere I'd want to go in June I'll be hit with restrictions, closing, modifications that just may not make it worth it. I don't know how vacation destinations get past this.

Until things get closer to "normal", how many people are going to "waste" their money on a vacation that may be more inconvenient and stressful than fun? Can't go there, can't do that, wait times (for restaurants, parks, etc) even longer because of reduced capacity.

At this point, I will just hold onto my reservation and wait for Disney to cancel it, JUST in case they offer some sort of bounceback offer. Even then, I don't know when to reschedule for. I don't want to get my hopes up again to just have them dashed or have a "full-priced" Disney vacation planned and it still is a heavily modified experience.

You are defending a company that is doing rolling cancellations only because they don’t want their call centers bombarded with calls. Instead they could be considerate enough to let their guests know that they will not be opening in June. Don’t be fooled. When it comes to how they are handling cancellations they are doing what’s best for them not what’s best for their guests. They moved their available reservations to July for a reason. Because they KNOW they won’t be opening before then. Not to cap capacity like everyone is insinuating. And they knew this for May also. People need to make plans, take time off work, reserve boarding for their pets, book flights and so on. Giving 2wks notice and false hope when they KNOW they will not be opening in my opinion isn’t right.

So don't book. Problem solved. But you proved my point...."They moved their available reservations to July for a reason. Because they KNOW they won’t be opening before then." If you aren't flexible in time off and all the rest, don't book or cancel those exisiting reservations. You've known for many weeks now that they may not be open, even taking reservations. If you want to have false hope, that's your choice. I had 48 hrs notice, I would've loved 2 weeks.

Don't forget stock price .. they are probably "stalling" on saying they won't be open until July to keep the stock price up. Saying "we'll be open in 3 weeks" in the middle of June has a way more positive spin on it than saying "we won't be open until July!" (in the beginning of May.

Really though .. at this point I don't know who would want to go to Disney anyway for a "normal" vacation, when it doesn't sound like Disney or Universal will be able to give anyone a "normal" vacation for a while. So maybe Disney is stalling their opening simply to let things try and go back near normal rather than open up with required masks, restaurants at 25% capacity, impossible social distancing everywhere, temperatures, etc.

I certainly don't expect the "normal" experience. I'm waiting to see exactly what the experience will be before deciding if we want to go or not. If it was a once in lifetime, or even a once a year trip, we probably wouldn't even consider it. We'll most likely have a shortened trip as I look for the June portion to be cancelled. If cut backs are severe enough, we won't go. If they are things we can live with, we miss Disney, we want to try the new resort and it won't be our only time to go.

I booked our Disneyland trip for 7/7 in October of last year with a standard deposit. My balance will be due 6/7... 30 days before my trip. I think Disney should reciprocate at this point and give at least 30 days if they are not going to be open. I'm fine with them continuing to take reservations, but now that we are in May there is no excuse for them not to start giving more notice of cancellations.

My questions for you guys: Is there any reason for me to hang on to my Disneyland reservation in hopes they will offer some kind of promotion if they cancel me? If I pay my balance but decide to cancel thereafter, can I get refund?

These are uncertain times. If you need that much certainty just don't book anything. :confused3

I feel the same way. I have had our July trip booked since last August (bounce back offer). If the experience is extremely modified, we will just have to wait another year I guess. I am a teacher, so summer is pretty much my only time to travel unfortunately. Wish I had a more flexible job with vacation time. I do get a winter break, but I am not really interested in the crowds that time of year, plus my family really enjoys swimming at the resort. We have a resort only stay planned for a few nights at Thanksgiving since we have family in the area. But that just isn't the same. I want to be in the parks! We will probably end up cancelling that trip anyway if this is all still going on. Don't want to put my aging in-laws at risk since we stay with them for part of the trip. This is really making me sad.
