DDA Chapter 4

Good morning, all! I haven't read since Friday evening, so I need to go back and do that.

We have a 2-hour delay here which means no preschool. Thank goodness! I still have the fever and the awful cough. I don't want to go infect any of the kids, but we don't have subs available. I hope that I didn't infect everyone at the synchro meet yesterday. I'm usually much more respectful, but they really needed me to drive.

I've decided that I don't want to get hot flashes, and they are probably not far away for me. I will be freezing and then take some ibuprofen. Twenty minutes later, I'm stripping as much as I can, because I'm so hot. Not something I am looking forward to, but others have lived to tell the tale. :rotfl:

Have a great day, DDA!
Feel better Beth.

I hear they make some good drugs for those 'private summers', as Terry and Stephanie call them. ;)

Good Morning. I was awoken this morning by the phone ringing. It was the Obama campaign. They keep calling and the tv ads are every single commercial break. If he wants my vote then waking me up in the morning is NOT the way to get it. Our primary is tomorrow so they are really pushing here.

I have 17 t-shirts to put the transfers on this morning. I guess I'd better get moving.

As for people having a rough time, please keep my co-worker Diana and her family in your prayers. I know I am going to miss something that has happened, but her husband recently had emergency heart surgery. Her brother in law and sister in law were in a horrible car crash. He died, she is still in the ICU and does not know her husband has died. Her son has been having medical issues and his wife is 28, she just had a stroke and has bleeding in the brain. All of this has been since the start of this year. I am impressed she is holding it together as well as she is.

PD to Diana. I bet you did better on the test than you think you did. Sending PD for the results!

We are here... in Hartford, CT. The roads started to get bad and when we called to check on availability at any hotel in the Brookline area we found they were all booked. We don't have to check out of here until 11:00 and they have breakfast from 7-10. We all decided to take our time in the morning and see what is out there when we wake up. Thanks for all the good wishes. So far, so good!

I'm glad you made it there and back safely. Sweet dreams this morning!

I am in such a funk today. I really just want to sleep which is my typical getting depressed MO. We are so sick of winter and snow. It'll be July before it all melts at this point. The good news is that the foot we had expected ended up being only 3 inches :thumbsup2 I need to get my butt in gear as I need to we AT work in an hour. I'm not looking forward to going as I am in the back room (usually big parties) and there is only a 12 and 8 planned in there. We work 2 waitstaff in that room and pool tips and I greatly dislike the girl that I am scheduled with. Now mind you I can get along with about anyone, but she is just a negative constantly complaining person. I can't wait for tonight to be over with.

We are debating whether to take the boys skiing tomorrow or not. It is supposed to be highs around 30 degrees and windy. I would wait another week, but we need to tap the trees very soon and I don't know when another opportunity will arise.

PD for your funk. I was going to ask this morning about the syrup. I was in Central Market on Friday and went down the syrup aisle. I suddenly remembered I hadn't heard much from you about it. I think I remember that you thought the conditions were good for a good tap this year. I certainly hope that is the case. I also hope you get lots of tips this week. You might use them to invest in a t-shirt press --you'd be done in no time! Randy loves ours. We're usually finishing up things at the last minute before trips, so I can pack while he presses.

I hate always coming on and posting about my upside down life but here it is:

I had to take Jim to the ER this morning....goober was being a baby and wouldn't walk so I had to call the ambulance. Thankfully a friend stayed with me for the entire time.

Official ER diagnosis: acute laryngitis. I am so thankful for our medical care but it is very expensive at a time when our purse strings are pulled so very, very tight.

On top of that I've gotten a whole lot less sleep than he has because they don't give beds to those stuck in the ER for 5+ hours with their loved ones (plus I didn't sleep much anyway last night).

I hope Jim is feeling better and you got some rest.

Our primary is tomorrow and I can't wait for it to be over. Clinton (Hillary, Bill and Chelsea) and Obama have practically lived in Texas the past couple of weeks, and I'm so tired of the radio ads. There is also a particularly nasty local race and we're getting 1 - 3 calls a day and 4 - 5 mailers from both sides.

Tammi -- I'm glad you had fun at the concert. I'm so jealous! I love GS! PD for your RL issues with the ex.

Tia -- congrats on WISH. WTG! I'm trying to find motivation right now, but it's not happening. I like Deb's idea of rewards, so I need to come up with something soon.

Elizabeth -- the board looks great!

Lindsay -- I'm glad your fur baby is better. I hope you had no more problems from the smoke detector.

Thanks for all the PD for Andrew and the games. His team won the tournament! Andrew was on cloud 9 last night. He played pretty well. He played 1/2 of the first game, all of the second game, 1/2 of the third game and the fourth game only lasted 1/2 of an inning. He held his own -- actually played pretty good, but didn't have any on-base hits. He connected a few times for foul balls and a pop-up someone caught, but he also walked a few times and made a couple of important runs.

The weather was nuts. Saturday, the wind was gusting at about 25 - 35 most of the afternoon, and it was cool in the morning but warmed up. It was sunny, so I had to stay in shade and got a little red on my neck, but was mostly just wind burned. I didn't get home until about 9 that night, as I stayed to watch my youngest nephew's team play, then went to eat with Dad and my brother's family. (I had sent Randy home with Jake, Andrew and my nephew Quattro so he could wash uniforms and the kids could get some rest.)

We had to get up before 5 yesterday, as we had to be there by 7:30. It was extremely windy and cold -- windchill in the low 30s. No one was really that prepared --it was supposed to get up to 75, but I'm not sure we reached that, though it did get warmer. Winds gusting 30 - 45 mph. We then had to wait around all day to get the pool play finished and seeded. We ended up seeded first in our pool, which was what ended up with our win. We were supposed to play at 4:50, but they were running around an hour behind schedule. We started the inning, and before we finished batting a monsoon came through. Since we were seeded first we won the tournament. I'll try to get a pic of Andrew with his trophy. I'll ask for more PD before the next tournament, specifically so he can start getting the hits he needs to improve his confidence.

Today I drove to work in a terrible thunderstorm. I could't really see the road, and it was still dark out so that didn't help. The temps are falling in to the 30s today and we might see some snow. I'm praying for some big fat flakes. Since they don't expect accumulation or problems with the roads, we might as well have something pretty to watch.

Have a good day everyone!

I got a call last night that was a political survey that was just voice response. It was kind of fun. It asked if I had a favorable opinion of several candidates, to which I answered NO. Then it asked if I was male, then it asked if I was over age 50. I just stood there saying "No, no, no, no." DH was giving me the strangest look!:rotfl2:

Princess is home today. She didn't sleep well last night and she is coughing almost non-stop. She doesn't seem to feel THAT bad, but I am sure she will be happier at home. It sounds like she had a pretty good weekend with her grandparents. She got lots of new stuff!:rotfl2: Toys, clothes, sippy cups, I'm sure there is more that I haven't seen yet!

Marci, I am glad you made it to work safely! DH said it wasn't bad for him driving in this morning, but it was getting interesting by the time he headed to his first account in the truck.:scared:
Yay for Andrew!! :yay:

Feel better Beth.

I hear they make some good drugs for those 'private summers', as Terry and Stephanie call them. ;)

Actually, I do not take anything for my 'private summers'

Before my hysterectomy when I was having really bad pain from the endometriosis I was on hormone therapy and it really messed me up, so I stopped it and insisted they just do the operation. When the flashes started, at one point I was taking Black Cohosh but stopped because it was not helping anymore. Right now they have been few and far between and I am hoping they will soon stop.?????:rotfl: :confused3

Lindsay - I still have the PMs you sent me from Glynis about DL. Obviously this trip would be WAAAY in the future if we do decide to go. At least not until Spring or Summer of 2009,depending on everybody's vacation schedules. My friend who used to work for a local AIDS agency is now living in Vegas and working as a travel agent (which is what she did before getting into social work) and she has e-mailed me a couple of times to let me know she can get great DL deals. I might let her work up some packages for me if we can nail down a timeframe. The Uncles are also fond of our local AAA agent, but if we went that route I would have Chanon handle our stuff.

The poster is done. This is what I learned:
Plastic grapes are very expensive. If you are going to buy plastic grapes you should NOT leave your coupons at home.:headache: The craft store only sells short metal fasteners - for long ones you must go to the office supply store. When you push the fastener through the foam-core board you have to be REALLY careful, because if the board bends it leaves a BIG wrinkle that can't be fixed. That could cause a 4 letter word to pop out of your mouth.:rolleyes1 If your child is a snot he might look rather critically at the board and wonder aloud what else could be added to make it look better, because the board wasn't SUPPOSED to be white. Never mind that white is all they sell at Target. Never mind that this project already cost us about $20. (Which isn't THAT expensive, but for something that has no practical use, it kind of IS expensive.) We do have plenty of nice blue Saran Wrap and a bunch of craft foam left over, as well as a big box of fasteners so our next project will be cheaper. ;)

Sounds like you will have plenty of time to become a DL expert! Glad the poster turned out well - and hopefully you can find a use for those grapes. ;)

Lindsay we are suppose to have a high of 29 tomorrow, that is a 40 degree difference from today  Of course snow is mentioned in the mix as well. I'm tired of these little teasers of warm days, I want it to stay!

Our weather was CRAZY last night. Needless to say, it was not a good night for sleep. :sad2: I feel like a zombie today!

Here's the project board:

th_Misc2008015.jpg

Very nice! :thumbsup2

Tell DS "good job!" ;) :rotfl:

Thanks for all your help Lindsay, I have gone ahead with the plan and paid the deposit. He is very efficient and will probably have the reservation made for us tomorrow. Your fire alarm experience reminded me of when my youngest was in the second grade, they were having fire saftey week at school and she was taking her bath while I was fixing dinner one night, well I burnt something in the oven which set off the alarm. Poor thing freaked out and came running out in her towel dripping all over the floor, the look on her face was priceless.

Theresa - :grouphug: Hopefully things will improve soon.

DH is driving me nuts wanting to go to Disney before November, he says he just can't wait that long. I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't talk me into a quick trip before then. :rotfl:

That is great news that everything has gone smoothly, Debbie. You had mentioned in a PM that his terms had changed a bit. Would you mind letting me know the lastest deal, so I can keep it on file for future reference? I hope you guys love OKW! :goodvibes

I wish Jonathan would pester me to go to WDW! I have a feeling by December, though, he will be. ;)

You are really sending me into shock worrying about putting together the science fair board this weekend. I'm very, very afraid. :scared:

Good luck with it! :wizard: So, which cleaner should I be using? :rolleyes1

Congratulations Andrew :cheer2:

We managed to repair/rebuild the canopy for Hunter's wheelchair today. I also printed out most of our trip t shirt transfers and cut them out. It took many hours to do all the cutting. Maybe tomorrow I will get them ironed on. I need to get projects finished and put away. Decluttering.

I got my work schedule and I am working the next 6 nights :scared: Boy I hope we are busy to make it worthwhile.

With that I'm off to bed.

Deb

I'm sure checking all these things off your list is helping! I hope you get lots of tips for the next 6 nights.

I'm glad you are home safe and sound, Elin. I hope you get some much needed rest today.

Ditto! :goodvibes

I am so sick of this campaign already. I had more cr** stuffed in my mail box this weekend from both Dem. candidates, and it seems like you can't go anywhere without hearing/seeing an ad, or a rally, or a candidate. Maybe they'll leave us alone after tomorrow for a while. :rolleyes1

I would have SO not been amused to have someone wake me up. We had someone from his campaign call last Saturday night around 10 p.m. With Caller ID, we didn't pick it up, but I should have and given them a piece of my mind. You should not be calling people that late at night.

Thanks for all the PD for Andrew and the games. His team won the tournament! Andrew was on cloud 9 last night. He played pretty well. That is excellent news, Marci! WTG, Andrew! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: Lots of :wizard: :wizard: for his confidence to continue to grow.

I thought of you this morning, hoping that your drive wasn't terrible. Let's see, in 24 hours, we've had warm weather, wind advisories, a tornado watch, severe thunderstorm warnings, flood watches, and now the chance for wintry precipitation. Must be a weatherman's dream! :sad2:

Lindsay - I got an e-mail from the Uncle1 this morning saying that they are busy through July of this year so it would have to be after that. Ummm...
I am going to WDW for 16 nights in August. That uses ALL of DH's vacation time and ALL of our money! :cool1: Andrew. Congrats on the tournament.

Stay safe in your funky weather.

We haven't tapped the trees yet. We are planning to next weekend. Our weather has been so strange it is hard to guess how the season will pan out. Hopefully we will make lots of syrup.

I got everything ready to do the shirts and realized that I had bought dry waxed paper instead of parchment paper. It looked the same. I tried a sample on an old rag and it is NOT the same. The transfer adhered to the waxed paper instead of the fabric. I will get parchment paper at some point and iron then. I did take the time to put a design together for my nephew. His 6th birthday is our first day at WDW so I wanted a special shirt for him. Of course he wanted Jack Sparrow. For some reason nothing came immediately to mind so I played around and came up with something. I'll see what he thinks when he gets home from school.

Deb do you sell the maple syrup?

We'll have to start a new thread in 3 more pages! :)

I am getting fidgety about Beach Club. It's the bus thing. Sharing a bus between YC, BW, & S/D is not going to make me happy. I am going to try to be calm about it. I am going to remember that it will take a REALLY LONG time to get anywhere. I am going to remind myself that I checked availability at other resorts for those dates with Bounce Back and there was nothing open, so we're stuck with BC. I did have a request for 2 queen-size beds added to our ressie. If I am going to cram into a double bed I might as well stay at Pop where the buses aren't shared with any other resort! :rotfl:

The CM helping me today said there is no Magical Express notation on my ressie. That is NOT GOOD. AKL IPO said they took care of that. I guess I will follow up with them closer to the trip.

Tia - I'm glad you got to go to a good restaurant today! Hopefully Terra will fall asleep relatively early so you can get some rest, too!:wizard:

I think it was 8:30! I finished watching something then went to bed myself. 9:11 this morning, I woke up feeling quite happy with my almost 12 hours. :goodvibes: Terra slept even longer!

I saw an email for a no-call list for political calls. I guess that it's not mandatory that candidates adhear to it, but I'm thinking that it would be bad pubclicity if they didn't. I guess this info was in the March '08 Reader's Digest.

In the last weeks of the 2006 election, nearly two-thirds of voters (some 90 million people) got prerecorded "robo" calls from candidates according to the Pew Internet and American Life Project. By the campaign's end, about 40 percent of voters had received at least three, and as many as nine, such calls.

Now comes the hope of relief for those who want to be left alone, courtesy of the National Political Do Not Contact Registry (sign up at www.stoppoliticalcalls.org). One flaw: Candidates need not abide by the registry. Let's hope they elect to anyway.

There are tons of great hotel options off-site that will cut that number down A LOT! Some of the off-site hotels you could acutally walk to the park more quickly than you could from Parasie Pier or DL Hotel. I've never used it, but I believe that the meal plan is really just a series of vouchers. You use them towards your meals as you see fit. While a few specific meals are covered, the rest are covered by the dollar value vouchers. If you didn't see the breakouts of them, here's a site with a good breakdown:
http://www.starward-dream-vacations.com/DL Meal Plans.htm

I've never used the vouchers, but I seem to remember figuring out one time that we'd be better off with just paying OOP for our meals. Remember too that there are tons of restaurant options just blocks from the parks (all walkable so you wouldn't have to rent a car unless you were doing other SoCal things). There are fast food and table service both, plus some specialty restaurants close by as well. If you stay off-site, there are options with breakfast provided.

What info did you run for pricing? I can't seem to duplicate your pricing to see if I can come up with any additional advice.

Good afternoon, DDA! After 70+ yesterday we're starting to dip below freezing and the rain is turning to sleet. Yuck! That lasts the rest of today and tomorrow is looking like 3-6" so far with more on Thurs. Oh well, spring will come sooner or later.

Wow - that seems really high! With all the off-site options, as Tia mentions, you could definitely stay for cheaper. When Jonathan and I went in Jan. '06 for 3 nights/4 days, I think we paid about $800+ for our AAA package at the DL Hotel. We originally were booked at the Candy Cane Inn for less, but the AAA package at the time gave you unlimited FP's, so we decided it was worth the extra expense (and loved the history of the DL hotel).

Also, for what it's worth, I don't think you'd want to spend a week out there, unless you were planning to do other SoCal attractions. I think you could easily see most of everything in both parks in 3 days (although keep in mind that if you're looking at weekends, since it's definitely more of a "locals" park, the attendance #'s sky-rocket).

Don't forget that they're also going to be doing that huge renovation to DCA over the next few years (seems like it will be done in 2011 or 2012?) - before then, the park will be torn up. Might be worth waiting if it's going to be your one and only trip out there.

If it helps at all, I would put the BC as my fave in the Epcot resort area. Admittedly, we didn't use the buses (had our rental car), but I would bet during the height of summer, that BC probably only shares with YC most of the time. (That is one of my pet peeves about so many deluxes - good grief, give them their own buses! You're certainly paying enough! :headache: ) Probably wise to put the queen bed request on your reservation, although I think those rooms are very limited.

That's unfortunate to hear about your ME reservations. AKL IPO has had such a reputation on these boards of being just great, but I've read a few instances recently where they're non-responsive. I wonder what's up with that? :confused3 Guess I should probably get on their radar screen early for December...

Remember when we would get excited about the post count for our thread??? Now post number 3,700 just does not seem all that exciting.
Wonder how many this would have been if our old thread was up and still running?
